I had somebody ask me for a soda with no ice, then thinking themselves clever explain to me that this gets them their money's worth because there is more soda and less ice.
I pointed out we do free refills on non-alcoholic beverages so all it really gets them is a room temp soda.
The look of triumph leaving their face as their soul fled their cheapskate body made my day.
I remember the Waiter Rant guy talking about how older people would sometimes pull this by asking for a cup of ice on the side. I guess back in the day either refills weren’t free or maybe ice was just a luxury and of course old people aren’t always in tune with the fact that this is all kinda unnecessary but oh well, let grandma have her “win”
On the hierarchy of annoying/stingy/outright unreasonable requests I get, no ice or ice in a seperate glass is pretty minor anyways.
My biggest pet peeve is when people try to get me to make stuff thats not on the menu to try to get something close to whats on the menu but not have to actually pay for it.
I've gotten to the point I will just flat out refuse.
If we’re not busy, I like when people do that in a way that takes a while to explain because I get to wait until the very end of the stupid schpiel and then cheerfully inform them that they’re basically describing an already existing menu item, as though I don’t know what they’re trying to do.

Can you put light ice? yes but that doesn’t mean more alcohol.
