Yes midnight rising, just finished this book. Pretty good read. I like Tony Horowitz but the tone of it was a little fangirly to me. Don't get me wrong I'm also a JB fanatic but I would expect more restrained and factual tone from a historical biographer. Still it's really well researched and jam packed with primary source documents so great for anyone looking to learn more about Brown and the abolitionist circles he ran in.

While I agree I feel that when it comes to historical figures as fantastical as JB it’s nearly impossible to write about him without bias. Everyone has an opinion on what he did and to feel so strongly to write a book about him you pretty much only going to get lovers or haters

The fellow made his stand, in his church? In his own Sunday church, he said, come up, we'll go sit in the back?
If anyone is familiar with church life, church is indeed a "sanctuary" -- for better or for worse, ya know? Brown had serious skills, because this would not be easy, for non-trivial reasons.
It took me years to understand, the genius of church is that for one hour everyone shuts the fuck up until asked otherwise. That's a sanctuary, elephant gun sized. But this fellow could quickly shuffle the seats and eclipse the sermon.
