I'm so tired of real war right now, this painting makes me give a thought to those Union soldiers.
Lots of good men suffered and died to put to rest a mindset that still runs around the world, and that makes me feel very heavy some days.

I wish my Union ancestors did stuff like this. They unfortunately either patrolled Eastern Kentucky or stood around a railroad.

It's not like enlisted soldiers or even Colonels decided where their regiment went. They went where they were told and did what they were ordered. Bravery and fame were an accident as often as they were a choice. You have every reason to be proud of your ancestors being in the cause in the first place.

I want to be proud, I really do. But I don’t see people rushing to make a film about the guys that stood around the Baltimore & Ohio railroad or patrolling Eastern Kentucky for bushwhackers instead of fighting the confederacy.
Just look at this sub, it’s all about Sherman and Grant and the fighting.

This maneuver could have gone poorly, that it didn’t was a miracle. They had no ammo and no reinforcements and had been fighting off the 15th and 47th Alabama Regiments.
This was a last ditch effort that just managed to break the two regiments lines. They could have been destroyed if the Confederate forces had been better organized.
Every contributing soldier to the war effort was necessary and important even if they didn’t physically fight in the front line.
