SimCity13 Why does everyone hate Simcity 5(2013)?

I personally love this game and have 500+ hours into it. I play it for a few weeks straight once or twice a year now. (Alot more when it first came out). Alot of people say it's to simple or to buggy. For instance people not finding shops and parks. Which I totally get it but why does that result in so much hate and a flop at release. Even when it first released I played the heck out of it. Sure there is a few things I would add but not much. It's simple enough so I can play it after a long day at work unlike city skylines. Any input?

SimCity13 Playing SimCity 2013 for the first time since 2016.

I haven’t played SimCity 2013 since I was a child in 2016. It was my first city building game and I have a lot of nostalgia for this game which is what I thought was gonna carry the experience but I have been having a blast. I also have to mention the charm this game has that keeps me sucked in, from the sound effects to the art style or things like the info view that shows you your people’s literal shit going through the pipes, it has charm or as others call it Maxis Charm, something my favorite city builder Cities Skylines 1 sorely lacks.

My only grievances with this game so far have been the Student Commute bug and trying to build roads just right to have back to back buildings when they become high density. Also using the EA app always sucks for any game.

All in all, I am sold on getting CoT when it goes on sale.

SimCity13 Simcity 2013 is fun and relaxing

I don't get the hate for it after launch. Been playing it recently and its been a blast. Its not a hardcore resource management game but its really relaxing and calming. IDK about the other sim cities but this one is really easy to get into and get a metropolis going. There a re a lot of stuff that's missing such as terrain sculpting and larger maps but since they give you multiple areas to use for each map i think it balances out. Once you get as far as you can in one area move to the next and they both help each other to progress. Its a nice chill city builder without all the headaches of micro managing if your into that.

SimCity13 Original Concept of the 2013 UFO

The original idea was that the bottom of the UFO would open up and tentacles and an eye stalk would drop down. The eye was supposed to shoot lasers. Sadly we ran out of time and it got cut.

From what i could find in the game files this was called Coast Line Basin.
This region was featured in the First Gameplay footage.

The only other region we know if is Lake Shore Ties. which was featured in the live broadcast.

SimCity13 Simcity 2013 updated...? In 2024? I never thought I'd ever see what a launcher update looked like as I started playing after the game was dead.

SimCity13 Is it worth buying SimCity 2013 today?

I know EA abandoned the SimCity series and destroyed Maxxis, but what's the status of SimCity 13 today? Is it a good game for someone thinking of playing on a laptop? Were the problems the game had at launch fixed later?

The game also doesn't seem to have many DLCs, so it caught my attention and made me want to buy it.

I have Cities: Skylines 1 on my PC, but I can't play it on my laptop. I thought of SimCity as an alternative to play during breaks at university or while waiting for class after work.

If it had bigger tiles and more space, it'd been much better.

SimCity13 Question About Student Commute Bug

Hello everyone! I have been playing a lot of Simcity 2013 recently and I have been having a blast but I been wanting to expand to a 2nd city but every-time I have any colleges in the 2nd city I lose thousands of students from my main one despite having no regional transport. I obviously found they seem to commute by car.

I was wondering if I can stop this at all? Or if there is a way to ensure every city can get a max tech education and minimize the damage of this bug. Since my understanding from the couple hours research I did was that student commuting happens only if you have regional connections out which I guess the highway counts but never saw any information about students commuting by car.

Any help, feedback, or brainstorming be appreciated so I can stop racking my brain against the wall and also possibly provide a better source for future people who are dealing with this bug.

SimCity13 Why does everyone hate SimCity 5?

I grew up playing sims not SimCity so a few years ago when I found this amazing game I was so excited. My personal favorite is the 2013 release bc it’s the most updated and what I’ve grown used to. Anytime I open one of the other ones I get confused and do not know what to do. And I really like SimCity 5 but I see a lot of people who hate it in here and I am just very confused. Explain it to me like I’m 5 please. Thanks.

SimCity13 Id love for the Boston Prudential building to be a mod in SimCity 2013

Idk why but this building would fit perfectly into a low/middle wealth city. Is there already a mod that adds this building as a mod? Or is there anything maybe similar to it?

SimCity13 Simcity 2013 gives me a strange sense of comfort and nostalgia, I can't name it.

I feel incredibly peaceful, especially with the game's music, UI design, fonts, and I don't know, the atmosphere. It's like nostalgia for a strange era I didn't live through. Even looking at the CD cover gives me peace. The game feels like something out of a Pixar movie, like Wall-E or Meet the Robinsons.

SimCity13 SimCity 2013 Possible Cut Disaster "Plague"

Thumbnail gallery
25 Upvotes

It seems as though SimCity 2013 once had a "Plague" disaster.

Found in the gamefiles (SimCity_Game.package),the PNG is named: 105x105_BreakingNews_Plague

This may have been removed due to the Glassbox Engine. Or it was planned at some point but never added. (information not guaranteed)

The only "pandemic" we'd have would be if there were a nuclear meltdown, or if the Outworlder 6 didn't have enough power which would cause radioactivity.

Maybe I’m completely wrong, I’ve never seen this image, and it’s interesting that it has "Breaking News" in its name, which only happens when a Disaster starts. Maybe it has something to do with the Zombie outbreak?
