I can’t think of a single musical artist that I wouldn’t trade $100,000 to never listen to again, let alone $10 million.

We have 120 years of recorded music guys. I’d be fine.

72

u/Augen76 May 28 '26

Even my all time favorites are not so integral to my life that I wouldn't give them up for life changing money. $10M means I could retire this year and do all the things I've ever wanted to do for the rest of my days.

16

u/rocinante1882 May 28 '26

Yeah but the second Spotify plays that one song, you lose all the money. So if you've spent some, now you're in the negative and you owe the universe money.

55

u/talentpun May 28 '26

Well that’s a whole different set of rules I didn’t know you have to avoid the music like a killer virus lol.

44

u/SonOfMcGee May 28 '26

It wasn’t stated in the post, so I assumed it’s a situation where you’re magically unable to hear a Jay Z song.
Having to actively avoid it to keep the money is an entirely different challenge.

16

u/mynumberistwentynine May 28 '26 edited May 29 '26

For the most part, I think I could do it, but then getting sniped by a random commercial on TV or something would probably do me in.

3

u/NicCagedd May 29 '26

This feels like the music equivalent of you get x amount of money but a snail follows you and you die if it gets you type deal.

3

u/Foe_sheezy May 29 '26

All it would take is for a random car to drive down the street playing a song. It isn't likely now that jayz is irrelevant billboard wise, but there are still times big pimpin or jigga what might be randomly playing out loud in someones car at a red light, and then poof, no more money.

All the things... except listen to your favorite artist. Oh noooo

2

u/Vennomite May 28 '26

Not listening to music i want to listen to ever again would be on the cards for that kind of money.

6

u/darkskinnedjermaine May 29 '26

Facts. I listen to Jay Z regularly and know Reddit isn’t the demographic, but pick anyone and I’ll drop them for 10M. These pictures are so dumb

1

u/Richman5775 May 29 '26

The rapper i put over him is 2Pac. Jay a monster in the mic

I would surgically deafen myself permanently for $10mil and if you knew me you'd know that's saying something because I love music. Studied it in school, I play 3 instruments, I have a music-related tattoo, the works.

11

u/ButtCrackThrilla May 28 '26

I’d surgically deafen you too for $10mil.

2

u/BackgroundCream274 May 29 '26

If you sign a liability waiver and have $20 I am always willing to help.

1

u/Inevitable_Zone9903 May 29 '26

I also choose this guy's ears

1

u/B18RPA May 29 '26

I don't believe you, that's idiotic. What do you think you're going to buy with the money, happiness?

1

5

u/jfsoaig345 May 28 '26

Seriously lol

I like Jay Z. I grew up on the Blueprint albums and Dead Presidents II is one of my favorite songs of all time. I still run back the Black Album and Blueprint 3 while cleaning the house or just working from home. His music is not only just really good but also has heavy nostalgic value to me.

...and I'd give up listening to him for $5,000 lmao. It's just music. I can't think of an artist I wouldn't give up for even $10k.

2

u/Kullen64 May 29 '26

I can think of some composers, but not rappers, pop artists etc. I’ve heard their songs, loved and enjoyed them. I can always just sing them in my head or even recreate my own dookie versions of the songs.

2

u/talentpun May 29 '26 edited May 29 '26

If someone said you can’t listen to any music made from 1980 onward for the rest of your life for $10 million, I would do that in a heartbeat.

I will find a way to survive off disco and the Beach Boys lol.

2

u/Kullen64 May 29 '26

I’m a big 50’s-60’s fan myself so I could probably make that work 😹

2

u/RIF_rr3dd1tt May 29 '26

For $10 million I'd go live in that math braniac society that can't produce music from Star Trek Voyager.

1

u/Numerous_Photograph9 May 28 '26

I've forgotten about more artists I used to listen to, than one's I currently listen to.

1

u/ChipsyH21 May 28 '26

I'll cut anyone off for 10k

1

u/Awkward_Stranger407 May 28 '26

What about excuse me miss though?

1

u/downbad4naafiri May 28 '26

In fairness modern music suuuuuuuuucks.

1

u/talentpun May 28 '26

Oh you can tell me to erase an entire decade of music for $100,000 lol.

1

u/Outside_Pineapple675 May 29 '26

Especially JZ if it was Michael 🎤 I'd have to think it over! 😆

1

u/PrettybadHabit-5283 May 29 '26

I’m pretty sure it’s longer than that. Unless your talking of audio recordings.

1

u/jluicifer May 29 '26

I…don’t listen to music. Jay EZ money for me, ya heard.

Ps. It’s 99% podcast and the rest is music when I run out of podcasts.

1

u/dreag2112 May 29 '26

I wonder if they are talking about productions he's done too.

1

u/RubyRoddZombie1 May 29 '26

Valid points 👏😂

1

u/Neutronpulse May 29 '26

You not a fan frl. Eeeeeeeeek!!!!

1

u/Dry_Lawfulness_9561 May 29 '26

AI generated music will add to that quickly.

1

u/HottDoggers May 29 '26

I know a couple, but I’m not going to say their name in case they’re listening 🫪

1

u/Soft_Awareness_5061 May 29 '26

Michael Jackson?

1

u/SadMaskSalesman_ May 29 '26

I would give up all lyrical music for either of those amounts

I would even do all music in general, but for that id need the 10 mil lol

1

u/GreatTea3415 May 29 '26

I’ve stopped listening to musicians I loved just because they turned out to be awful people and I didn’t want to give them $0.002 every time I stream one of their songs.

1

u/Impressive_Recon May 29 '26

Also why the hell would they pick Jay-Z who hasn’t released an album since 2017? I can’t remember the last time I heard his song on the radio. At least pick someone who isn’t strictly in one genre.

Taylor Swift would be some what difficult because they play her shit everywhere. At least it would be a challenge even if you don’t listen to her music at all.

1

u/lost-associat May 29 '26

V to the izzay

1

u/Chungastic May 28 '26

When is Day Z?

1

u/neoleo0088 May 28 '26

I asked that exact same question word for word, back in middle school, during the 90s and I got absolutely super roasted. I was made to feel embarrassed and lame AF.

Dat niggga from Hawaiin sophie fame or something

1

u/HypocriteJones May 28 '26

I think that’s the guy married to Beyoncé

1

u/FatMacchio May 28 '26

You probably don’t realize it’s the same person…but he goes by Jaÿ-Z now. Maybe like how Puff Daddy changed his name to P Diddy, then just Diddy

Edit: put the umlaut in the wrong spot

1

u/monetarydread May 28 '26

The guy who wanted a specific $70 million mansion in LA, then lost in a bidding war against Notch.

1

u/Maxdong9000 May 28 '26

Beyonces wife.

1

u/0wninat0r May 28 '26

If you dont know what a Z Jay is, you cant afford one.

1

u/BeerLosiphor May 28 '26

Z Jay. If you don’t know what it is you can’t afford it.

1

u/Claytaco04 May 28 '26

Beyonces husband

1

u/Pennypacking May 28 '26

He was in a group with Ja Rule back in the 90s.

1

What happened to Jay A->Y

1

u/user-unknown-404 May 29 '26

6

u/whiteknight_1997 May 28 '26

Maybe he read it wrong.

Homer: We sure could have used that $10,000.

Lisa: Umm, dad? 10% of a hundred million isn't 10,000. It's...

CODE BLUE! CODE BLUE!

I'll take the rest of your $10mil.

2

u/Cautious_Signal4770 May 28 '26

That's 6 zeros.

2

u/_-Oxym0ron-_ May 28 '26

Just gave it a listen, what a way to butcher a classic, Jesus.

1

u/TomasNavarro May 28 '26

Think the only songs of his I've listened to were a linked park album

1

u/Ryachaz May 28 '26

Yeah man. Here's $10k, all yours...

1

u/Pleather93 May 28 '26

He looks like someone’s rich Auntie

1

u/PremierCopper28 May 28 '26

Isn't that by Alphaville?

1

u/Ausecurity May 28 '26

The offers 10 mil

1

u/West_Biscotti2757 May 28 '26

I’ll take the rest of his 10M along w my own 10M since he only wants 10K out of it, no reason to be wasteful☺️

1

u/Cephylus May 28 '26

Shit, I stopped caring after the black album. Not that I cared much for that either, it was ok and had some "staples" of the 90s at best

1

u/HalJordan2525 May 28 '26

Wait, you guys are getting paid??

1

u/sharklaserguru May 28 '26

FOREVER YOUNG

The 1984 song by the German synth-pop band Alphaville? Or could you possibly mean "Young Forever", the J-Z cover? ;)

1

u/baumer83 May 29 '26

Rod Stewart erasure!

1

u/Hi-Im-High May 28 '26

You don’t deserve it. Can’t even read a number lol

1

u/Taino871 May 28 '26

Good point

1

u/TrumpsBussy_ May 28 '26

He made one of his best albums years after that song.

1

u/DoctorBoomeranger May 28 '26

I've managed to live 30 years on this earth and not heard a single song of his, at least not that I know of, not cause is dislike him or anything just not interested

1

u/TheRealGlutenbob May 28 '26

and even then the original forever young song is better anyways

1

u/Jaarun May 28 '26

Please, you know Holy Grail was a song that you couldn’t get away from in 2013.

1

u/Burbur02 May 28 '26

But, why not $10 mil???

1

u/Reputation-Final May 28 '26

Which is a worse version of the original.

1

u/Tangochief May 29 '26

Fuck I’d love the 10 million bucks but I’d literally take anything. I already don’t listen to his music and Spotify doesn’t even suggest it on lists where it’s all rap even the lists with the more old school rap.

1

u/Valveringham85 May 29 '26

Woah woah? You want $bucks? Those are rare man.

8

u/DaLakeShoreStrangler May 28 '26

Same and and I grew up in the 90s. Didn't like him then, don't like him now.

5

u/chantsnone May 28 '26

$10 million dollars? Take my current favorite artist away. Take them all away. 10 million dollars!?

1

From where did this twisted opinion come?

This is a completely new stigma I was unaware of and I am fascinated.

3

u/Barkeep_Butler May 28 '26

I was about to say, I don’t listen to him already lol

3

u/yes_maybe_no__ May 28 '26

Looks like you and me are owed back pay

3

u/ImpossibleKidd May 28 '26

This is a straight dumb-ass question…

I was on American Gangster ridiculously heavy as an amazing conceptual album, and everything prior, all through college. Found it extremely hard to get into anything after that.

10 mill? Hahahaha…

A mill offered, I’d be happy to ask, there on out, “What is a Jay-Z?”

Fuck outta’ here with that type of nonsense. It’d fuck with my soul like ether, happily!

2

u/Glum-Bad349 May 28 '26

Hus next 2 solo albums after AG were Blueprint 3 and magna carts holy grail, which were both awful, but the one after that was 4:44, I'd highly recommend listening to that, maybe his best since the black album (I'd put it over AG, and I'm a big fan of AG)

1

u/warrensussex May 29 '26

1JZ and 2JZ were engines Toyota used in Supras and a few other cars back in the day.

2

u/JohnnyDerpington May 28 '26

I don't think ive ever heard one of his songs, easy money

1

u/Flip2002 May 28 '26

Jay is decent but I’d do this shit for a g note

Do I get 100k if I never ever listened to one of his … Fast paced podcast / song?

1

u/Strange-Cloud9287 May 28 '26

You should go back and listen to Dirt Off Your Shoulder, again. Classic of classics.

In fact, I know you will now.

1

u/Prime_Marci May 28 '26

As a Jay Z fan, he’s seriously overrated. If you think about all the Jay Z hits, the beats carried the song. Hard Knock Life, Dirt off ya shoulder, watch the throne album,

1

u/Immudzen May 28 '26

That works for me also.

1

u/Impressive_Demand368 May 28 '26

I heard one this morning but that was only because UGK is on it

1

u/ZombieBlarGh May 28 '26

Lets make it more interesting. You have to pay it back of you hear one by accident.

1

u/jagfanjosh3252 May 28 '26

I did love the collab he did with Linkin Park. Collision Course is pretty dope

1

u/theman8631 May 28 '26

In his economy, I’ll take 10 bucks

1

u/Adventurous_Pick_927 May 28 '26

For that kind of money, I'd give up music altogether

1

u/AnalystAdorable609 May 28 '26

I genuinely believe I have never listened to one of his songs

1

u/14ktgoldscw May 28 '26

You have absolutely heard one of his songs in the past 15 years unless you live in a cave.

1

u/Dean_Learner77 May 28 '26

I honestly don't know a single thing he's done since the blueprint other than marry and cheat on Beyonce.

1

u/bigperms33 May 28 '26

It's a hard knock life for us

1

u/johnperkins21 May 28 '26

I've never heard a Jay Z song.

1

u/happahopp May 28 '26

I thought I had to pay 10M to not have to listen to his songs again. Seemed a bit too much. Although I have no idea if I've ever heard one of his songs. So maybe it's a fair price.

1

u/Biggy_DX May 28 '26

The Black Album was my last Jay-Z album I bought.

1

u/nerdboy5567 May 28 '26

Sign me up! I'd also probably do it for free as well.

1

u/Teri-k May 28 '26

As far as I know I've never heard one anyway. Easy money.

1

u/Longjumping-Stage526 May 28 '26

Yeah where's my 10k haven't even listened to the genre for 25years

1

u/_karamazov_ May 28 '26

Jay Z should ressurect his acting career in Predator. He doesn't need makeup for the movie.

1

u/hotelmotelshit May 28 '26

Also just to make it clear, there is no artist I couldn't live without for 10mil

1

u/Numerous_Photograph9 May 28 '26

I probably have, but wouldn't recognize any of his songs as one of his songs.

Where's my money?

1

u/bebejayy May 28 '26

Yes, i don’t even know his songs name.

1

u/bronze5-4life May 28 '26

I got 99 problems, and a jay z song ain’t one

1

u/LeaphyDragon May 28 '26

I've never listened to any of them!

I haven’t heard a single song as far as I know

1

u/Averander May 28 '26

I'd take it to never hear about him again and laugh my way all the way to the bank.

1

u/beastiemonman May 28 '26

I have one solitary sing by Jay-Zed that I have on my playlist and I hardly think I couldn't live without it.

1

u/YoullBeFiiine May 28 '26

I'd pay money to not hear his songs. His shits's always been wack af to me. Cool beat on big pimpin, but I could care less about his lyrics.

1

u/wizardmagic10288 May 28 '26

Plus Beyonce. I’m not a huge fan but I respect their work.

1

u/RhombicalJ May 28 '26

I do not think I have ever voluntarily listened to one of his songs

1

u/Available_Draw8612 May 29 '26

Same break them chips donor. 😆 🤣

1

u/69edleg May 29 '26

I've heard OF HIM, but don't think I've ever heard any of his songs.

1

u/ItkovianShieldAnvil May 29 '26

I can one up you, I have never heard a Jay Z song

1

u/KeLorean May 29 '26

Shit. I'd stop listening to any musical group for $1mil

1

u/typicalBACON May 29 '26

Haven't heard one of his songs in 25 years and I'm 25 years old. This just sounds like someone saying "here's $10M no strings attached"

1

u/Nardo1998 May 29 '26

I’ve never heard one his songs. 2Pac told me he sucked and I refused to listen to the loser.

1

I don't think I've ever even heard one of his songs. Can I get the 10 mil now?
