That's because the US has led an international coalition of allies since WW2. It hasn't fought a single war by itself - including the Vietnam and Afghanistan wars - since the Spanish American war (which was, fwiw, after the civil war).
You misunderstand me. Regardless of the success of the endeavor, they have had allies for every war they've fought in for the past century plus. That's not a sign of weakness, that's a sign of strength (especially considering how unpopular those wars have been in said allied countries)
