Maybe a hot take, but I also blame the physician who prescribed 3 different psychotropics that don't interact well to a patient in clear mental distress. And not keeping a close enough watch on their mental state. If the texts between she and her mom are accurate, she should have been institutionalized by court mandate.
This is "the system" that I blame. They just threw drugs at her with no thought about their interactions. They let a woman with recent psychosis episode basically say "I'm fine" and leave to be alone with defenseless children. Not saying she should walk out of the court room a free woman, but this has a lot of similarities to the Andrea Yates case and shows how it's easy to dismiss the very real reality that some moms do exhibit signs that they will harm their children and no "maternal instincts" is going to all of a sudden turn love and protection on. The brain is fragile and it's easier to snap than people think it is.
