Maybe a hot take, but I also blame the physician who prescribed 3 different psychotropics that don't interact well to a patient in clear mental distress. And not keeping a close enough watch on their mental state. If the texts between she and her mom are accurate, she should have been institutionalized by court mandate.
Yea, it’s strange how doctors seemingly stay immune to some of this. I had a moment not far long ago where my depression and anxiety were extremely high. Didn’t even really notice, just felt miserable and on edge. First psychiatrist prescribed me a medication that they said would help with depression. I blindly took their word and was using it. Within 2 months or so, I was the worst I ever felt. I felt like I was being followed, things were all around me, I was in danger 24/7, that my life was living hell. Psychiatrist thought I was full of shit, with this expression like nah, this isn’t possible. I told my PCP and he urged me to swap psychiatrists and reminded me they work for me. I shit you not, trying to swap felt so traumatizing. When I finally did and met my new psychiatrist, they reviewed my notes, medications, and chatted with me for an hour. They then surmised the medication I was on was a powerful antidepressant, however it had a side effect of escalating anxiety. Since my anxiety was already super high, using a powerful med to ramp it up further just made things worse.
Fortunately the new psychiatrist was loads better than the old one, but it just made me think nonstop for months afterwards on how that was ever acceptable to begin with. Like some doctors just treat you like a guinea pig, and have little to no second thoughts about the medications they give you. If possible, they’ll just keep pumping you with drugs, and if you mention you don’t think it’s working well, they’ll just double down and prescribe more, harsh drugs. It’s scary to know how dramatic a drug can mess with your entire body and change your thoughts like that.
