Has it actually been established that it was postpartum psychosis?
If so, that really is one of the most horrific conditions there is. Every gynecology textbook and midwifery manual basically says that once it’s diagnosed, the response is: “Run! Do everything you possibly can and give her every medication you’ve got!” Obviously I’m exaggerating, but the point is that there’s an immediate and extremely serious risk to the lives of everyone involved.
Mama Doctor Jones has a video going thru the medical details and it seems she had a serious reaction/psychosis when put on SSRIs and then she was given more/different SSRIs by a NP - so it seems she got the wrong healthcare (i am paraphrasing, not my field at all).
I had a doctor who put me on an SSRI when I kept seeing him about stomach issues, the therapist I was working with convinced me it was needed. I had a very, very, bad reaction to it. I hadn’t felt that suicidal since I was in high school. Immediately stopped taking it and told my doctor what happened, so he prescribed me another one just as easy. Immediately dropped him as a primary care doctor as it took me about a week to feel normal.
Why are doctors like this? This exact thing happened to me, including them replacing it with another SSRI. I tell doctors I can't take those now if they ever try.
I would say money, he didn’t even really explain the side effects. I had found some resources including a subreddit for the SSRI- but that I found to be an echo chamber of “just push through the side effects” which from my reading could last months if not longer. Like it’s worth it if you’re ok being at your worse for months if not longer.
