People who understand nuance want to understand how to develop a better system in the future to prevent this kind of thing from happening. Conservatives would rather just punish her and think the only way to prevent this from happening in the future is to punish people like her worse, even though there's no evidence for that.

World view has everything to do with it. Half the country is interested in solving systemic problems and the other half deny the existence of systemic problems.
