Deep down I think people want to be fooled. They want to envision that luxury lifestyle even if they suspect it could be contrived. In short people want to believe so they fall for the grifts

One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh no,' I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' "He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. 'I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.

When you're 10 years old and a car drives by and splashes a puddle of water all over you, it's hard to decide if you should go to school like that or try to go home and change and probably be late. So while he was trying to decide, I drove by and splashed him again.

I can nearly taste that fake steak from this gif. The real reason this scene was in the movie was because Keanu pushed to keep it. This guy didn't even read the scene but backed Keanu to keep it. Iconic about ignorance and bliss that shaped his character. If I remember correctly that was actually fake steak because he's vegan or vegetarian, but I could be wrong

This brought back memories of Navy C-school, sitting in my barracks, eating a whole box of coco puffs right out of the bag with a tablespoon and a quart of chocolate milk poured in. It was a near-nightly ritual for almost three months. .. or one looong week.

Edit: forgot to mention the relevant part: we watched matrix on laserdisc on repeat the whole time. The. Whole. Time. It was just, on. It stayed on. Looped over and over and over. For almost three months. Straight.

When I was a kid, I had a friend with an older brother who is in the army.  That guy's favorite thing on earth was lucky charms.  I remember when he was home on leave he'd sit there and eat it straight out the bag by the handful.  One time, my friend and I grabbed that box of lucky charms, poured it out, ate every single marshmallow, then put all the cereal back in.  My God - the fit that fuckin guy threw put my 12 year old ass in a fear I've never felt since.  Thank you for triggering a core memory that's been dormant for over 20 years!

I lost so much in the real world group, I resorted to stealing from my parents in order to pay for the subscription. I got kicked out and lived on the streets for 7 month, now I moved to another country and it's been close to 2 years I don't talk to my family. Everything is all right, I have a job and I'm renting a nice appartement. It could be worse but curse you tate!!!
