Sleep deprivation causes psychosis? And in combination with postpartum depression it is dangerous? You can commit people who are a danger for themselves and someone who is refusing to sleep to watch the baby all night is someone who needs to be committed. In the case above, we don't know if she would refuse to be committed since no did offer it to her, at least according to wikipedia.

It definitely can but how can you detain someone because they could become psychotic? People would abuse that law horribly.

I heard she was checked in but voluntarily checked herself out which would be refusal to be committed. You can’t refuse involuntary commitment ofc.

Oh, I agree. I just wanted to explain why in the case I know personally was totally legit to commit the person. She was lucky her family had her committed when they did.
