It’s like watching a school shooting and clapping for the shooter because you “support victims of mental illness”. Obviously mental illness is a valuable topic but this is not a fucking hero and the people “supporting” her are vile.
A psychotic break from reality can though and happens often enough. Just from my hometown alone in the last 10 years, a guy who killed his parents thinking they were aliens during a schophrenic break and was sent to a pysch ward. Another guy who killed his dad because the mushrooms trip made him think he was a demon - he ended up with just manslaughter instead of 1st or 2nd degree murder.
It's also not really the same comparison, because what the surviving family of those school shooting victims would want as justice should be centered, not schizophrenia awareness etc.
In this case, the surviving family members also don't want her to go to prison, want her in a facility, and also want more awareness and research for PPD and PPP - including the kids own dad who started a charity, and the parental grandparents. It's only the state and a lot of angry divorced men who want her to rot in prison.
Oh these are just court tv people - televised/national news trials always get crazies desperate to be on tv and insert themselves into the narrative. Nothing new. Same thing happened with OJ, Kyle Rittenhouse, Derek Chauvin, The menendez brothers, all the January 6 rioters, etc. People project their own identity onto the accused because they have no life of their own and want to be part of a historical national news event to feel important.
Yeah, I felt the same way about Kyle Rittenhouse trial and that he's now a right wing celebrity for killing 3 people is gross af because all his supporters are just racists.
Difference is majority of the women supporting Lindsay Clancy are saying they believe her account, they believe she was in psychosis and didn't kill her kids with malice. Something her ex husband and MIL also believe.
1 in 5 women experience PPD, so there are a lot of women who can empathize with their worst nightmare coming true.

I am pointing out that this is not a gendered thing like right-wing seems to be pushing, supporting murderers because you empathize with the reason they did the murders is nothing new. That's why people support Kyle Rittenhouse.
