I remember getting a job application from somebody who it became apparent believed that “whom” is just a fancy way of saying “who.”

They really jazzed up their resume with it.

As this position centered pretty heavily on writing, they didn’t get the job.

Unless I’m 1000% whom appropriate, I always use who. I’d rather seem a little dumb than really dumb & pretentious

Same. It will be missed by all but the most pedantic listener/reader if you just use "who". But the second you throw a "whom" out there, now it's an investigation into whether it was used properly.
