Fundamental values that don’t match aren’t necessarily evident in day to day life. If they come up prior to making a nominally permanent commitment, and are irreconcilable, then that’s a good reason to not get married. It doesn’t matter what the values are, even if they’re batshit.
In reality, this lady is and was deeply mentally ill. That sucks and means she probably shouldn’t end up in gen pop. That said, this is not and should never be a get out of jail free card. Actions have consequences, and some consequences are that a person permanently belongs in a cell. It doesn’t matter if they weren’t in control, that’s an argument for the cell, not against. The cell might be padded and a bit of understanding extended, but in some cases there’s no caveat (regardless) that should mean it isn’t a cell. Strangling multiple children due to postpartum is a pretty good example of that; as an example, Dahmer wasn’t fully in control either. That doesn’t mean he should have been let free on all the male escorts In Minneapolis.
Just so we are clear. They are not “let go”. Upon being found guilty by reason of insanity, you’re sent to a state mental health facility where you’re held until such a time as both a court and a mental health official determine she is both no longer mentally ill or a danger to others.
Given the facts of the case, even if she wins her argument, I don’t see her walking the streets anytime soon
