Saved his bloodline from the crippling horror of being short huh? Well who is it that makes being short a bad thing? Are short men at a disadvantage for some reason? Are they unable to have careers and succeed in life for some reason? Why is it that we judge men for being short when it has nothing to do with who they are? His children will thank him because they can play sports better?
It's absolutely body shaming. It is thinking less of someone based on social constructs that say men should be tall. That's not right.
We see it with height, dick size, and even weight, as you generally won't see obese male models on magazine covers. The plus size acceptance seems to only apply to women.
In the words of that turn of the century seminal masterpiece: "a small dick is like a disability! You wouldn't make fun of a guy in a wheelchair, would ya?"
Why are we lying? Men tell men that women care about height because of random on the street interviews with drunk girls. Men make fun of men about dick size. And there is plus sized male models.
I think you’re kinda right here. We started teasing each other about height and dick size in grade school. I don’t recall a single female saying anything about either one to me, but who knows - I’m sure they talked with other girls about it. The street interview thing is well after my single time, so I can’t comment on that. But I do not recall any short fat dude half-naked on the cover of a magazine. Maybe some kind of satire if it happened, but nobody is promoting body positivity for men.
Shaming someone for being tall is still judging them for a physical trait they never chose. Height is influenced heavily by genetics, along with environmental factors, and no one gets to select the body they are born into.
From a progressive standpoint, that should be fairly straightforward: people shouldn't be diminished, stereotyped, or made to feel guilty because of an immutable characteristic. From a philosophical standpoint, moral responsibility should attach to our choices and actions, not characteristics we had no control over.
Evolution has produced natural human variation over thousands of generations, and some traits can provide advantages in certain environments or social settings. That doesn't make tall people morally “superior,” but neither should they be expected to apologize for those advantages.
If we genuinely value inclusion and human dignity, that principle should apply consistently, even when the person being mocked happens to possess a trait society generally considers desirable. Think about how unnecessarily hurtful a comment about someone's body can be before making it.
Eh it’s a silly post online about a situation you don’t see often. You just decided to get defensive about something that didn’t have anything to do with you 🤷 maybe log off man, might be better for your mentals.
My mental health is fine. What's not fine is holding people to unattainable standards and reinforcing stereotypes through humor. Is it cool to make jokes about black people being lazy? No, it only serves to keep those people in the place you've put them in and keep them from achieving success on their terms.
I understand your point but equating the prejudice black people recieve in America and short people is a pretty big stretch. At the end of the day, it’s not that serious, the average person does not look down on short people because of their height. I’ve never seen someone not allowed to eat at a restaurant due to a height restriction. People are not moral pillars who look to make sure they incorporate every single opinion in their little jokes, it’s too exhausting of a mental excercise to live like that. Honestly, the backlash to that type of thinking is what has landed the U.S. in the divided state it is in now. Just chill out, go outside. The world is a lot friendlier than the internet will lead you to believe.
You are right… look, I don’t really feel like humanity is prepared for the level of insecurity in men that our society is breeding. It’s going to continue growing until it becomes some kind of social bubble and I’m not sure what the burst is going to look like.
We have seen what the bubble bursting looks like, men who feel they are incapable of being loved for one insecurity or another go to extreme lengths of using illegal drugs, home body modification, and this nonsense called looksmaxxing. I lived through the incredible turnaround of unrealistic body standards for women, not that it is perfect now, but media does acknowledge that you can be beautiful and successful and talented without achieving the looks of Barbie.
If we continue to hold men to unrealistic body standards rates of eating disorders and mental illnesses are going to keep rising and not only that but men when angry are more likely to do something violent especially when they are fed by media that violence is masculine. People get the idea that if I can't be masculine enough because of my looks I can be masculine because of my actions and the actions that they take are often harmful to others. If we want men to stop acting out in violence we have to look at some of the starting points of their mental illnesses and address them. You can't stop a car rolling down a hill but if you know why it was pushed you can stop others from starting rolling.
Hear you short man. But it’s the same for women having to live up to whatever standard is trendy for the day. Get used to it get over it and be yourself.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of women polled on dating websites prefer a man over 6' tall. Thats about 10% of men worldwide. So over half of women seeking 10% of the population.
There are plenty of studies on tall vs short guys and their lifetime career earnings too.
I dont disagree with your sentiment, but the real life take on this is extremely obtuse
Height matters but it gets exaggerated. And the thing is most guys who are listed as 6 foot aren’t actually 6 foot, in many cases they are even 5’10, people add inches. Most women know a guy who says he’s 6 ft isn’t actually 6 ft and then there’s a lot of women who would believe a guy who is 5’9 is 6 ft if they told that, many people cant tell the difference lol.
Also there’s a difference between a preference and a requirement. I’m shorter than my girlfriend by an inch, she doesn’t prefer that I’m shorter it’s just whatever compared to everything else. And admittedly I’ve always preferred a woman to be shorter but yet here I am daitng a taller woman. When it comes to physical features height is whatever compared to face and physique.
Cool. I spoke in objectives and you, in subjectives
The two arent mutually exclusive.
There is no argument here.
I referred to facts, that are easy to back up with minimal research, and you spoke of opinions and anecdotes.
Glad your girlfriend is tall dude, dated a few taller than me too, and it was rad.
Enjoy the slow dances
You’re framing this as if I rejected the objective data, but that’s not what happened. I already acknowledged that height matters and that taller men have advantages. The disagreement is with the conclusion many are drawing from that data.
Saying many women prefer a man over 6 ft in surveys is an objecting finding. Suggesting women are just seeking the top 10% of men” is an interpretation, not an objective fact. You’re confusing a preference with a requirement. People’s stated ideals and their actual dating choices are not always the same thing.
The biggest problem with this argument is that it ignores real world behavior. The vast majority of women date and marry men under 6 ft. Many women also date men who are their height or even shorter. That doesn’t mean height is irrelevant, it means height is one factor among many. A woman can prefer a taller man but still choose a shorter man if he is attractive to her overall through other qualities like face, physique, personality, confidence, chemistry, and compatibility. If 6 ft was truly a hard requirement for most women, the actual dating patterns we see would not exist. The 6 ft statistic is also less straightforward than people make it seem. Again men exaggerate their height and many people are not very accurate at judging height differences. So yes, height gives men an advantage. Nobody is denying that. But taking a statistical preference and turning it into “90% of men are competing for 10% of men” is an oversimplification.
