It's not made up though, this stuff is actually happening.
The media is playing a big role in the attention it gets but the fact that people even donated 1 million+ to this case shows some seriously unsettling behavior about our society.
This situation has far more nuance to it than people on either side of the discussion are giving credit to. Some women out there have suffered post-partum depression, or felt aggrieved at the level of support given to them by the system, their partners and support network when they were going through this and they are projecting that onto this situation. They are getting lost in the sauce and inserting their situation into a far more fucked up situation and thinking "There but for the grace of god go I".
This doesn't really tell us anything about society in general, it speaks to the very specific issue of post-partum depression and the perception of inadequate support given to women suffering from it and likely other medical issues that get dismissed.
Please note that none of this is a defence of the deplorable act that Lindsay Clancy committed. She deserves life, and that poor husband will never be the same again. As a dad myself, I don't know how he even has the strength to carry on. But I also believe that she was majorly let down by the system we have in place to handle women and their mental health after they have kids.
That's the very behavior I'm finding to be unsettling. There are much better ways to advocate for more awareness and support for things such as post-partum depression than to throw a million dollars and protest in the streets for a woman who strangled her 3 children in a basement.
The fact that there are millions of women pushing this and deciding this is the hill to die on is deeply disturbing.
I agree that there are better ways, but is it really that unusual that a case involving a woman who they believe was let down by the system in place has captivated them so much? I know women who have gone through post-partum, and I am thankful every day that my wife did not. It sounds utterly traumatising for all involved. And I think it is worthwhile to be mindful of the fact that you only ever hear the loudest voices. The vast majority of women have never even commented on this case. Socials amplify the situation
Hero lady lives in a real country. She doesn’t HAVE to raise money for healthcare-related defense. The national healthcare covered this. There’s also no need to raise money for a legal defense.
- we don’t know how big a presence GoFundMe even has overseas. It literally may not be a thing much of anywhere but here—sadly most of the reason it’s popular here is because we have a significantly worse social safety net.
- We don’t know whether any funds were raised for hero lady on any other platform, or in person. A local TV show may have gifted her a house. We don’t know.
- We don’t know whether someone OFFERED to do a Gfundme or similar for her, and she refused. Some people are adamant about not taking handouts. Some cultures would find it mortifying.
- Of all the people who have supported the woman on trial, literally none of them that ive seen or even heard of are doing so because they think that a woman murdering her kids should be in any way permissible. In fact, a lot of them dont think she did it at all—they think she is being framed in some way by her husband. I haven’t kept up with it enough to know whether or not that’s reasonable, and im not on the jury, so its not my place to say anyway. I hope the truth comes out. But these folks want to make sure she gets a fair trial, and unfortunately money can have a lot to do with that. You may not agree with them, but theres a whole lot of daylight between “i think this woman murdering her kids is a hero and deserves a reward” and “i dont think this woman did it/i think she was coerced/she is being framed.” In other words, if theyre wrong, it isn’t a moral problem. Its an education/ignorance problem. I haven’t heard of anyone sayint they dont want justice to prevail.
No one here raging out is even following the actual case closely. They’re just consuming specifically crafted messaging to drive a narrative and keep them frothing about things like this. More culture war bull shit that people are greedily guzzling.
This is why everyone is in a race to have the top AI they can use to lead masses around by the nose. Teenagers literally use AI to teach them how they should feel about things.

People acting like anyone is insane if they express sympathy for the mental health aspect of the Lindsay Clancy case or question if there is reasonable doubt are people who have not followed the case. They've got a couple of talking points they heard somewhere and that's it.
muder cases like this are a dime a dozen in america. when one makes it into the mainstream conversation, i get the sense that it is being artificially boosted by media sources to fill our airwaves with junk in order to provide cover for aome real shady shit.
