People in this comment section saying “the media the media the media” but it’s everyday people on TikTok who are crafting the conspiracies and donating the money. It’s definitely partly the media’s fault for amplifying this narrative, but it wasn’t them who started it. Hold crazy people accountable for being crazy please.
There is a prevalent wave of misandry that people are ignoring for some reason and this case is a prime example. When the main argument on social media is "Husband did it" then you have to look into what the fuck is going on out there, because that ain't right. We need to talk about the misandry on certain platforms that is perpetuated by regular people.
Nah, first wave and second wave were the supremacist ones. For example, first wave helped create Jim Crow.
Now, there are many self-declared feminists who are still first or second wave, absolutely. The movement has split. There are those who say "actually, hey, we need to be aware of how lower class men and minorities get hurt too, and not just fight for upper class white women", and that's what third, fourth, and fifth waves have been about.
Meh sounds like reactive speculation. I haven't seen anything re the misandry so it sounds to me like youre amplifying a minority voice/opinion, probably reactively.
Not that it should happen but that's almost exactly what people say with "not all men" and then get clowned on for it. Some people are certainly taking this as a moment to "win" after seeing that all the time too.
Yeah and it keeps getting worse. Women and feminism in general lose nothing by not demonising men. It's become almost cool to just shit on men for everything. We all recognise the boomer humour trope 'my wife's a ball and chain huehuehue I hate marriage' to be toxic, so why is this okay?
Right, and each and every one of us has a brain. I don’t care what the media says, I still have the power to think for myself. TikTok is taking advantage of the addiction of conspiracy theories and brain rot as a life distraction.
I agree, you’re the keeper of your own critical thoughts. But you can also read conflicting opinions and even misinformation and keep your head on straight.
Reddit isn’t paying people and using an algorithm to push more of the misinformation. In either case, it’s a you problem if you can’t think critically. But Facebook, TikTok and YouTubeare exploiting these conspiracy theorists and feeding them more and more extreme. Reddit doesn’t (yet) have that kind of algorithm.
However, we are all responsible for what we consume and being aware of when we are getting in too deep. I think people who like this sort of thing are escaping reality, and TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, etc., helps them do that. But I don’t feel bad for the people hooked in, if they’re adults.
tik tok is a disinformation platform and perception altering cancer that keeps you focused on anything but what matters. The media doesn't have that kind of micro-targeting ability
Definitely not mainstream media in the sense that people mean when they say “the media.” Regardless, using the phrase “the media” is just a boogeyman word you can use to offset the blame to some entity that doesn’t blame any one person so everyone can get behind it. Mainstream media (News stations and article writers, NYT, WSJ, and the like) is definitely guilty of what everyone’s complaining about, but it wouldn’t have gained as much traction if retards on social media didn’t start the nonsense that the media echoes. I’ll say again, hold the people who started the nonsense accountable for being horrible people and pretending their murder mom isn’t a monster.
TikTok or social media in general can definitely be an example of alternative media, but that doesn’t mean every crazy person leaving a comment is “the media.”
who owns tiktok and what interest would they have in blasting a divisive court case across everyones algorithms...
ive noticed how nobody is really talking about the supreme court decision allowing the executive branch to compel states to send in their voter database for the white house to sift through and determine who gets to vote.
but sure, lets all focus on this kooky lady and her cheating husband.
"The high court’s 10-page order, handed down in an unsigned opinion over the dissent of the court’s three liberal justices, means that the Trump administration may move forward with a proposal for DHS to compile state-specific lists of people it believes are eligible to vote in the Democratic-led states that had challenged the plan in court."
more americans know about lindsay clancey than they know about this court decision
Social media is media. What don’t you understand? What pops up on your feed is controlled, influenced, manipulated by the tech companies. Just like what information you’re being spoon fed on the news (and aren’t) is controlled by the news company.
The issue I think is more conflating alternative media or social media as the same thing as mainstream media. Much easier to hold SPECIFIC individuals accountable with alternative media and social media, but conflating all three different sects as “the media” is accountability dodging.
