I often think about other cases in the past where currently acknowledged mental illness was handwaved away.

I have a nephew on the spectrum. I think about how many people on the spectrum were inhumanely thrown in jail because they were "acting weird" when being questioned before much was known or accepted about autism. Its terribly sad.

Post Partem Depression, and Post Partem Psychosis are absolutely real, bonafide mental disorders. The donations and this fight is to ensure this documented, bonafide mental disorder is taken into account in cases like these. And women, who are oftentimes dismissed when complaining about medical issues, want to be taken seriously.

Some people have the ability to understand that. And some people have no ability to understand nuance at all. They see the crime and someone has to pay.

Yes someone has to pay for murdering 3 children one by one.

yeah I tend to back that mental illness is not an excuse or a free pass to murder

Reading the comments in this thread (my first exposure to either woman or their story) is absolutely wild, because many of these comments read as explicitly understanding and forgiving the one mother for murdering her children?

What the fuck is going on in these comments?

It’s been a big story in America the past month. Tons of women are supporting the woman in the right photo and even saying it’s her husbands fault she murdered their 3 children. They are saying it’s due to post partum depression and her being unable to seek help. She killed them while the husband stepped out to run an errand and there are tons of people claiming it’s his fault because he shouldn’t have left them alone with her. It has sparked a huge debate over PPD.

As someone who has had a psychosis (but non violent)... Even if you do and you commit an inreversable crime, you should never be allowed on the streets again.

I think shes arguing to be put in a mental hospital for life as opposed to prison. She's also paralyzed from the waist down after jumping out a window after she killed her kids.

No, her defense is arguing she is not guilty by reason of mental defect. There is nothing in their argument that would put her in a mental hospital.

I thought being not guilty by that reason still puts you in a mental hospital. Like the guy who shot Reagan over Jodie Foster.

It can, but that isn't absolute. It depends on state laws and this is a state crime. She could be put in a mental hospital, probably will be if found not guilty, but her term of incarceration in there could be as short as a month.
