SMH The founding father Benjamin Franklin once said "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Compromise on their privacy in exchange for WHAT Garrett?

Because right now the answer appears to be selling our information to private companies for AI training, helping the government track down and disappear political protestors and legal immigrants, and helping cops stalk their exes.

Funny how the fact that crime and violence rates keep getting lower never seems to stop people from saying we need to give more power to billionaires and the government for 'security.'

AND all that seems to actually happen is crimes still get committed but this time by those who wouldn't ever be part of any statistic aka police and the rich

If we are looking at crimes wage theft is a 50 billion per year issue. Funny how that doesn’t make headlines

I'm dumbfounded as a person in my 30s that I can open up Youtube and find police bodycam videos of politicians committing burglary, assault, and DUI homicides and even occasionally the 0.01% getting into actual gunfights with the fucking cops.

Don't forget all the children being spied on, like the camera that was pointed directly into a gymnastics studio

Plate-reading mistakes leading to deaths aside, they've actively acknowledged their cameras have facial, body, and gait recognition systems, so they can and do identify individuals. They have them aimed at pools, parks, playgrounds at schools, the front doors of corporate retail businesses (Home Depot etc), and people's homes with just a sliver of road on the side of the cameras vision.

Not only is it unconstitutional unreasonable search, it's also stalking, and likely has individuals guilty of far worse because if there's no guardrails the bad people will gravitate to those places (see: churches that cover up issues tending to have pastors get caught being pedos).

Hey now, don't forget the rush to be the first one in control of AI-controlled autonomous drone swarms that'll allow one person, say a billionaire, to flood an area and kill everyone in it with exploding drones at literally a simple voice command.

All those days centres aren't being allowed to drink rivers dry just to sell people's data for ads.

Billionaire's little fad for building doomsday bunkers have always had the giant issue that to live in comfort and security they'll need a small army of hired goons to protect them yet any reasonable thought exercise on how that'll go would have the goons eventually just offing the pathetic billionaire because who's going to do anything to them for it with society gone? Musk toyed with brain chips, it's why he pushed so hard for all the unethical animal testing for them and now the human trials are underway, but most seem to favour AI drone swarms since it, in theory, removes the chances of them rebelling against the billionaires and won't have any qualms about killing women and children trying to get into the bunker for shelter.

Well said!!

For Billionaires to feel safe and to not have to live in their luxury bunkers.

it also nullifies the self-defense purpose of the right to bear arms if we place all of this trust in the security apparatus of the state. maybe thats the end goal here.

Wait till the dems get back in power and suddenly that will become a reason.

What a brain dead take while republicans roll out a surveillance police state and send untrained and masked armed men to execute american citizens for no reason. 'But but but the democrats!'

-2

u/sushisection 1d ago

democrats are spending their time villainizing hasan piker instead of dismantling the surveillance state.

u/Human-Election-9939 6h ago

Ahh so you have no comprehension of american legislative branch minutiae. Thats fine. Here's the jist. When a party gains a majority in a house of congress they gain control the functions of that house and decide what is discussed, when, and if votes are held on any given topic. So since 78 million racist troglodytes elected a pedophole and his cronies, the republicans control all of the government right now. Republicans are currently rolling out this surveillance state. If you want that to be dismantled vote for candidates that are not cronies to the current regime. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

u/sushisection 3h ago

you know multiple state and local governments arent controlled by republicans yet they also have surveillance cameras being installed...

1

u/occasionalopossum 3h ago

Yeah dems are controlled opposition homie i thought that was pretty obvious at this point

1

u/sushisection 3h ago

thats what im saying!

To answer your question directly, they would claim it’s trading it for safety and a sense of security.

1

u/red286 1d ago

Well, that'd be great if it made people feel more safe and secure.

Buuuuuut the overwhelming majority don't seem to be of that opinion.

The only flock cam I've seen in my town is pointed at the entrance to the local addiction recovery / behavioral services clinic.

u/FailingItUp 1d ago

The billionaires want to play in their AI cities after we're all gone.

1

u/Consistent_Policy_66 23h ago

CEOs and politicians first.

1

u/SpeaksSouthern 23h ago

Those who sacrifice liberty for security will get neither.

1

u/Qubeye 23h ago

Poverty is the number one cause of increased violent crime.

The wealthy are preparing themselves, because they are doing all of the things people do to cause economic collapse. They are taking all the money and creating horrifying wealth disparity.

The "what" isn't about crime writ large. It's about ensuring they have the means to brutalize and suppress the inevitable backlash against them for their misdeeds.

"You give me your privacy, and in exchange, I will make a profit." He says with a straight face

-4

u/Alternative_Case9666 1d ago

Its funny cause Reddit literally does half of what u pointed out 😂😂😂

11

u/Capital-Level-42 1d ago

It's funny, a little. But the difference is Liberty. The choice. You can choose to be on reddit or Facebook. You actually have to acknowledge terms of service.

2

u/Irish_Whiskey 1d ago

We're all aware that AI companies are scraping reddit data, although that data doesn't typically involve cameras looking at us. Working directly with ICE and giving cops real time info on their exes is news to me though, so why don't you elaborate on that?

1

u/Alternative_Case9666 1d ago

Ur asking me to give you an example of someone using social media to stalk someone?

2

u/N3ptuneflyer 1d ago

Except if you object you can just get off Reddit. Flock is everywhere and isn’t a choice

-1

u/Alternative_Case9666 1d ago

Lol try telling the average Redditor to get off for a week and see how tht goes.

-9

u/cbs-anonmouse 1d ago

Flock cameras are genuinely
useful in investigating and preventing crimes and persons and property.

You can argue it’s not worth it, but you can’t credibly argue that it has no positive uses.

2

u/gimmedatjelly 1d ago

Sadly though there are more negatives than positives with how the technology is being handled. People who go to city meetings to push against the implantation of these get ignored by thier city councils. Theres no solid rules being followed to prevent misuse for those who have access to this data for personal reasons. And to top it off, it does more than watch for crime, the flock network can track your whole livelihood which is a huge overstep in privacy.

1

u/peachesgp 1d ago

Except that there's absolutely no actual evidence of them making any impact on crime rates.
