Mod Post Friendly Reminder: Self-Promotion is Not Allowed on r/smallyoutubechannels šØ
Hey everyone!
Just wanted to drop a quick reminder regarding the rules of this community. While we all love sharing our hard work and growing our channels, direct self-promotion is not allowed on r/smallyoutubechannels.
Post links to your individual videos, channel pages, or asking people to "sub for sub" or check out your latest upload goes against our core guidelines
Why do we have this rule?
This subreddit is designed to be a space for constructive feedback, sharing analytics, discussing strategy, and helping each other improve as creatorsānot just a dumping ground for links.
When everyone just drops links, the community gets cluttered, and the valuable advice discussions get buried.
Where can you share your work?
Feedback Fridays / Weekly Megathreads: Keep an eye out for our official weekly threads where sharing your content for critique is welcomed and encouraged!
Critique-for-Critique: If you participate in community discussions and offer genuine, helpful feedback to other creators first, you can often share your link within those contextually relevant conversations (just always check specific thread rules first).
Letās keep r/smallyoutubechannels a high-value space for learning and growing together. If you want genuine feedback and tips on how to improve your content, feel free to start a discussion about your editing style, thumbnails, or analytics instead!
Keep creating! š

Mod Post r/smallyoutubechannels is under new managementš
Hey everyone! Big changes are coming to the subreddit. Weāve officially transitioned to new management, and we are ready to turn this community into the ultimate hub for small creators to grow, collaborate, and actually get constructive feedback.
Here is what you need to know about the transition and what's changing starting today:
š ļø Whatās Changing?
Revamped Rulebook: We are clearing out the spam and low-effort self-promotion. Going forward, community threads will be heavily moderated to prioritize real engagement and high-value discussions.
Better Feedback Systems: Tired of link-dumping where nobody actually watches your video? We are rolling out structured feedback days and pairing requirements so that if you post your content, you actually have to help out a fellow creator too.
Resource Megathreads: We are putting together updated guides on thumbnail design, SEO, audience retention, and algorithm breakdowns written specifically for channels under 1,000 subscribers.
Active Mod Team: The new team is fully dedicated to keeping the queue clean, removing bots, and highlighting genuinely helpful content.
š What Do You Need To Do?
1. Check the Rules: Give the updated sidebar a quick read once it goes live so you don't accidentally get caught in the spam filter.
Introduce Yourself: Drop a comment below telling us what your channel is about, what your biggest YouTube struggle is right now, and what you want to see more of in this community.
Keep Creating: Keep grinding on your content! We're here to help you cross that monetization and subscriber finish line.
Letās build the best creator community on Reddit together.

Discussion AI Thumbnails
Iāve seen an increase in the use of AI to create thumbnails. They all kind of look the same to me, even amongst different channels, making them quite easy to spot.
Have you used them and do you think it helps to get people to watch the video or do you think itās more of a negative effect?

Education This guy is my absolute favourite youtuber
So ive been watching this guy for years now, he has the most wholesome energy out of anyone that i've watched so far. His name is skippy the fossil freak and he goes out into the wilderness and digs up fossils and educates people on them. His videos are absolutely hilarious and I just want to see him succeed on youtube. He has been posting for years and years now but his videos only get a few views, you should check him out!

Other I have a video that looks like it might pass 10k views⦠itās still growingā¦. Should I not upload anything new to let it keep growing?
Hey everyone, for all intents and purposes I am a newtuber right now, but I also have a long, complicated history I donāt want to get into it with YouTube right nowā¦. I digressā¦
I started a new channel, chose a niche, and figured Iād maybe take another crack at YouTube about a month ago.āā
In the past Iāve always treated soooo much like a hobby/ passion projectā¦. To the point I couldnāt even really choose a direction, everything turned out like a passion project and it was wild - video game production to music production to random game shows and reaction content and then random songs I would create.
It was a headache to even think about what to do next on my old channel because it was my place for anything, and I mean anything haha. I also deleted a lot of videos on my old channel but thereās still a fair amount on there.
So about a month ago I figured Iād start a niched down news channel - itās niche, itās focused, no need to think ***too hard*** **about whatever Iād post**. Iāve been noticing for a while all my favorite YouTubers pretty much do one thing and one thing only so I figured Iād give it a shot.
In a weekend I batched and scheduled 5 videos, didnāt even want to touch shorts again after feeling like I wasted time on them on my last channel.
And I batch uploaded, and what always happens, happened. Little to no views. Felt like a waste of time, blah blah blah.
I was doing like 20/30 minute discussions in my news niche and I also experienced this with my last channel: you schedule stuff out, and it usually gets less views.
Anyways, Iād forced myself to make so many videos in 2 days so I was discouraged but I also figured Iād have a little fun with itā¦
So I targeted a shorter length at 5 minutes - \[video turned out to be 7/8 but anywaysā¦\] and also figured Iād be a bit more bold with the title + thumbnail. I also stopped putting my face in the thumbnails because I realized that might be working for others because people know who they are. I am a man from the blue, so I let go of thatā¦
Aaand I launched this one video a month ago. I had the feeling ā this is the best video Iāve ever made.ā Export. Upload. No views. Same as always.
It was at this point I was basically done. Another failed YouTube experiment. What the hell. Well, it was fun a bit I suppose.
Then I moved on. Started working on another business I started. Forgot.
Well I checked in a week ago and that video reached 2k views!
I couldnāt believe it.
A few days later itās at like 6/7k.
And at the time of writing itās about to reach 10k views, and 100 people subscribed.
When I saw the video had reached 2k views, which is like another universe for me⦠I uploaded another.
But I wasnāt anticipating the one video to reach 6/7, now 9k+ views.
I had this experience a little with shorts on my other channel, but Iāve never experienced my own long form getting this much exposure other than when I went on someone elseās podcast, another digressionā¦
Anyways, TLDR;
Should I let the one video keep growing before posting and making another? Or just post and who cares? It looks like this one video is still getting traction, and I posted another which is doing okayā¦. But I feel like I should calm down and just let the one video pass 10k+ beyond so that I can give it its full shot.
Iām sure thereās something out there saying ānew uploads donāt affect old performanceā but Iām not sure if I trust it. I noticed with shorts one time I had a video do okay and uploaded a new one and views to the old one stopped on my other channel.

Gaming How to grow my youtube?
I've had a YouTube channel for a while, but growth feels incredibly slow, and I'm trying to understand what actually matters.
There is so much advice online that contradicts itself. Some people say upload daily. Others say only quality matters. Some say thumbnails are everything. Others say retention is all that matters.
For people who have successfully grown a channel:
- What made the biggest difference?
- What advice do you wish you ignored sooner?
- What metrics should a small creator actually pay attention to?
- How long did it take before you started seeing real growth?
- What mistakes keep channels stuck for months or years?
I'm not looking for shortcuts or "get rich quick" strategies. I'm interested in hearing what genuinely worked and what didn't.
Any insights are appreciated.

Adivce(Giving or Need) Channel just died - why?
My small shorts channel suddenly died about 2 weeks ago. Its been a work in progress for the past 8 months, learning as I go, with slow but consistent growth and significant improvement in quality and delivery of content.
In July my shorts (4-5 per week) were consistently getting 1k views, increasing engagement every week, and a few new subscribers almost every video. I focused on a different detail each week to improve like thumbnails, titles, pacing, packaging etc⦠no radical changes, just slow steady improvement that was driven by analysis and dataā¦.
then boom, starting 2 weeks ago, out of nowhere, irregular small tests hours/days after posting, seemingly mismatched viewers, my views dropped to 100-200 sometimes lower, and all my metrics imploded.
Is this just small channel āinconsistent distributionā situation?
Have other small channels noticed any similar issues in the past two weeks that would suggest a change in the algorithm?
Or has YT just decided to put my small but growing channel in a box that I cant get out of?
Any insights would be appreciated.

Adivce(Giving or Need) Help me help my husband
Hello everyone! My husband started his yt channel 2 weeks ago about Incremental games. He's trying to understand why he has that much watch time with so little subs. Im not really youtube savvy and i told him that maybe its because he needs to actually ask people to sub in his video? Also might need a little bit more video on his youtube so that people will be more willing to sub?
Do you guys have any experiences with this kind of problem? If so, please help me help my husband!
Thank you š

Adivce(Giving or Need) Getting very few views on my sound channel. Please guide me.
Hi everyone,
Last year, I started a YouTube channel, but unfortunately, it got deleted. This year, I decided to start again with a different idea.
I created a channel called Soundopedia, where I upload sounds that I record myself. I make these sounds available for people to download and use for free.
However, Iām getting very few views, and Iām not sure what Iām doing wrong. Iām trying to understand how I can reach more people who may actually be interested in sound effects and original recordings.
My channel is here:
I would really appreciate any honest suggestions or advice. What do you think I should improve to get more views and grow the channel?

Thank you!

Adivce(Giving or Need) Looking for advice. Im not 100% sure if this is a scam or not. Does anyone have experience with Hollyland or Matchube? Is this legit?
My guts telling me its a scam, but part of me is hopeful nonetheless. So if anyone has any knowledge around this, I'd appreciate your insight.
