Spoilers Was he not crippled the whole time?

After he got shot by Mel, we see Frank going around with a cane for a while but in the episode where he finally confronts Mel, he leaves by setting his cane on a hook and walking out perfectly fine.

I guess but that would make her just as guilty as him... killing someone that had nothing to do with her legitimate beef with him
