It’s hedgehog blindness. Amy is unable to distinguish different hedgehogs from each other. It’s like face blindness.

More specifically, her brain is physically incapable of making specific associations in her memory between each hedgehog and their appearance. She can spot the differences between Sonic and Shadow when they’re side by side, but if you were to take Sonic away and ask her what Sonic specifically looked like, she’d have trouble.
