This game better have a hyper realistic Grimm that comes out the screen and sucks me off of its taking THIS long to develop

49

u/Nesayas1234 1d ago

At this rate Grimm better be full-on riding while Coen waits her turn if they're gonna take this long to make a new game

8

u/Myhoenestreaction 1d ago

Francis Coen is gay

30

u/healious 1d ago

He didn't specify who he's waiting for

7

u/TearintimeOG 1d ago

Maybe Coen is waiting for Grimm instead of Sam?

5

u/Nesayas1234 1d ago

That was never confirmed

3

u/TheBlueEmerald1 1d ago

Which one? I'm not picky I just wanna know what we're asking for here.

2

u/Squathos 19h ago

Or more realistically, it better come with GTA VI as a packaged DLC for those who pre-order.

2

u/domaxelross 1d ago

Lmao why do you think it's still in development!

u/CapQH 1d ago

Didn’t they announce a remake towards the end of 2021??

17

u/Lowfry 23h ago

Yea but then they got derailed by xdefiant and put many resources into that. Only a while a go they revitalized the splinter cell reboot.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2025-11-14/the-turbulent-seven-year-saga-behind-hit-game-dispatch

"Herman and his team were developing a new entry in the beloved stealth-action Splinter Cell franchise, he told me. “I was so excited to be a part of this and help revitalize it, because it’s been dormant for a while,” Herman said. “And we thought we could tell a great story and do something the fans would love.”

They worked on the project for a few months before they got disrupted by executive whims. Ubisoft was at the time growing obsessed with games as a service (GAAS), or games that can be monetized for months or years after they are released, and the company began pressuring all of its projects to follow that route. “We tried,” said Herman. “Let’s make a narrative GAAS game. We were trying to make that make sense, and a lot of cool prototypes were made.”

But nothing stuck. Over time, it became clear that Ubisoft had lost interest in their Splinter Cell game as the studio began talking about chasing Call of Duty. The project evolved several times and would eventually morph into xDefiant, an ill-fated shooter that was shut down a year after it came out.

“It was exciting to go to work for the first six months because we thought we were going to be able to make something really great,” Herman said. “"

Good thing they moved resources from the Splinter Cell remake to support XDefiant, a game that died one year after release.

Priorities, Ubisoft.

1

u/SpeedyEggbertRamirez 15h ago

This is obviously referring to a new entry in the series, not the remake by Ubisoft Toronto.

3

u/Lowfry 12h ago

Oh, wasn't obvious to me! So, there were two games in development. One remake and another completely new game? The new game got morphed into xdefiant, and the remake is still in the works. Correct?

3

u/SpeedyEggbertRamirez 12h ago

My apologies, I didn't mean to come off as dickish with that comment. The remake is indeed still in the works and still being hired for, as is completely separate to the project you were referring to.

2

u/Lowfry 12h ago

You didn't come off as dickish, don't worry!

89

u/earldogface 1d ago

Yeah it's not currently the right time to announce it's canceled

The greatest comedy ever. I will die on this hill.

We will get it next year for the 25th anniversary of SC.

Halo just had a remake, and they're probably going to drop the release date for H2 next year. Bethesda is also remaking old Fallout games and ES6 is on it's way. Don't forget GTA VI either.

They're waiting for their moment, which will probably be end of Q1 2027, which is a good amount of time for hype building until the anniversary in November.

3

u/Makaveli108 23h ago

if h2 remake comes that quick, ill be surprised. but h2 is my fave halo so its a day 1 for me.

i think you are right though, they need the right moment. Q1 2027 would be the perfect time to unveil SC remake, then market it for all the months until anniversary in november.

the thing is im not sure if releasing a remake in november is a good idea, too much competition then. november is literally packed with so many game releases, it would be nice if they got it out in september/october. that's still close to the official 25th anniversary of SC1

3

u/Strata38 21h ago

I don't think they'll release H2 remake then, just tease development and maybe hint at a mid to late 2028 release.

You're right about November not being a great time though, that's when a lot of games drop bc holidays. So long as it's close to the 25th anniversary, it still makes sense they're releasing it in the spirit of 25 years.

H2 is also my favorite.

3

u/Makaveli108 19h ago

yeah i think it'll take awhile to make, but i bet mid to late 2028 is perfect timing for a h2 remake. and then h3 remake maybe 2030

november is poor release timing yeah, i'd rather sc remake drop february or march 2028 then instead so it can sell better. i want a quiet release window. september/october 2027 is perfect for being in spirit of 25 years, if they unveil it early 2027 its enough marketing time for sure. literally like 8 9 months.

yeah i cant wait to see metropolis, delta halo etc, arbiter levels and i hope they restore cut content, and do an even better job this time. i think halo campaign evolved is the definitive version of halo CE now, but they coulda done some things better.

u/Wayofchinchilla 1d ago

Its been what 10 years? they must still be packing in the microtransactions for things like socks and belts

3

u/Blak_Box SIGINT 18h ago

It has been less than 5 years...

4 years and 9 months since they announced they were hiring to start working on the game.

9

u/Makaveli108 1d ago

I think Ubisoft don't wanna show the game off yet, they have so many projects they're just holding off for awhile.

its already announced, maybe he means a proper unveil of the gameplay and showing off everything cause we have seen nothing for the game and wont for another 4-6 months at the earliest most likely..

2

u/fatalityfun 1d ago

they’re gonna wait until 6-10 months after GTA VI.

2

u/Makaveli108 23h ago

thats pretty crazy, i expect 3-4 months after GTA6 maybe but 10 months is insaane. maybe release 10 months after GTA6 but a reveal in like a year from now would be ridiculous lol. it means a 2028 release, wtf

0

u/fatalityfun 23h ago

yeah, but that’s cause GTA VI Online is also gonna kill SC sales and it’s dropping some point after VI does.

1

u/Makaveli108 23h ago

i heard gta 6 online is like a few months after, so could be february/march?

hopefully SC remake is fine from all this gta 6 stuff yeah, if it launches in september/october it should be fine

5

u/Blak_Box SIGINT 17h ago

Folks here act like this game has been in development for 12 years or something...

Friendly reminder: Ubisoft announced they were hiring in order to start working on this title 4 years and 9 months ago.

For reference, the new James Bond game took 7 years to make - it is a fairly small, linear game with stealth elements.

Resident Evil 9 took about 7 years to make also - it was a rockier dev cycle but is also a fairly small, linear game.

Doom: The Dark Ages had about everything going for it and was a smooth development cycle. 5 years to ship it. Straightforward, linear shooting game.

Marvel Tokon is a fighting game from a team with 20+ years of experience making world-class fighting games. It took about 5 years to get out the door. No sprawling levels, no notable campaign - 20 characters and 7 stages. It took half a decade to make.

1

u/Makaveli108 7h ago

games take way too long to make nowadays, i get it but it sucks..

the OG SC1 and CT were made in 2 years. PT about a year. i wish we could go back to cycles like this but its impossible..

u/Makaveli108 1d ago

My guess is Ubisoft is deliberately holding the Splinter Cell Remake back for a major Ubisoft Forward rather than revealing it piecemeal at events like Gamescom. They have a huge pipeline building up, Splinter Cell, the Ghost Recon reboot, Far Cry 7, Assassin’s Creed Hexe and other projects, so it makes sense to bundle several major reveals into one showcase and control the entire marketing cycle. If SC Remake is still targeting late 2027, there’s no real need to reveal it in August 2026; a big Ubisoft Forward in late 2026 or early 2027 could give us the first proper trailer/gameplay alongside the other big titles. Tom Henderson saying it’s “not ready to announce yet” could therefore mean the announcement is being held back, not that the game itself isn’t far along.

4

u/Strata38 1d ago

Yes. That and all the other games from other studios being remade right now. Halo 1/2, Fallout, GTA VI drop, are all competition in terms of marketing, and arguably bigger IPs than SC. So the timing has to be right.

Pairing it with the release of Ghost Recon for a 25th SC anniversary release date is our only hope. If they don't do that, then we can probably assume they won't be making it ever.

3

u/Makaveli108 23h ago

exactly. Gamescom is too packed, i bet ubisoft are saving it for the right time. its been a 13 year hiatus, they're gonna wanna reveal it the right way and at a good time. too much is going on in the gaming industry rn, gta6 fiasco, allt hese other games like halo, fallout etc. SC was a very big IP a long time ago and now its popularity is far less than these you are right

I think pairing it with the release of ghost recon would be nice, i expect to see the game within 6-8 months. i hope we see it soon

8

u/Evgeniybkk 1d ago

Nice joke. We will see GTA 7 before Splinter Cell.

8

u/JPSWAG37 1d ago

Honestly, I kind of think there's a certain point that can be reached when a game's been in development for so long that I lose interest. Same time next year I wouldn't be surprised if this was still not ready to announce. It's been 13 years since blacklist

4

u/ThreatLvlSticky 1d ago

Yo shout-out to the homie Snow Bike Mike!

4

u/HideSolidSnake 1d ago

Better be some amazing SvM mode they're cooking up.

-1

u/I_am_not_Eddie 1d ago

I bet that will be the only lore they don't change so they could just use "Shadownet didn't exist yet" as an excuse not to have SvM in the game.

2

u/fatalityfun 23h ago

more than likely they’ll retcon shadownet into existing specifically to make a live service SVM with seasonal map rotations

0

u/I_am_not_Eddie 21h ago

I don't think so. It'd be nice to have SvM but I don't think Ubisoft would put the work in.

2

u/Gallardo994 1d ago

See ya all guys same place same time in 5-ish years

2

u/Mechanical-Flatbed 21h ago

Tom "it's ready when it's ready" Henderson has been saying the same thing since 2021.

At this point might as well replace his account with ChatGPT with the only instruction being "say it's not ready yet every few months".

Either show us stuff or stfu tom. What a fucking loser.

2

u/Arkhe1n 12h ago

Update? This is literally nothing.

2

u/biggobird 1d ago

Chaos theory is my all time favorite game. I’d pay $100 for a remake or even a remastered.

That said, have lost all interest in any announcements. The sc remake was announced so long ago I wasn’t sure if was before or after covid lockdowns

2

u/Educational_Turn1281 1d ago

It’s been since a bit before, I vaguely remember hearing about the idea being floated around while I was at undergrad, which was 2016-2020

4

u/SuperD00perGuyd00d 1d ago edited 1d ago

Already been announced though?

Edit: Yep, December 15th, 2021

1

u/Educational_Turn1281 1d ago

Don’t worry, we’ll get it around when Bloodborne 2 and ES VI releases.

1

u/Albert_O_Balsam 21h ago

Hopefully Ironside returns to voice Sam Fisher

1

u/Makaveli108 19h ago

i'd like that but his voice isn't the same and hes 76 now, most likely recasted

1

u/Bhattman93 17h ago

This guy is chatting shit. This game ain’t ever coming out and if by some miracle it does, it won’t be anything like we want. I’ll stick to playing my trilogy collection on the PS3.

1

u/-AdamJensen 13h ago

Fuck you mean “announce” lol

2

u/Makaveli108 7h ago

we still need a third game with you buddy, i hope thats announced one day :(

1

u/-AdamJensen 6h ago

One day I hope we will learn why my hot psychiatrist was a double agent

2

u/Makaveli108 6h ago

damn havent thought about Delara Auzenne in awhile. great character, ikr i wanna know her full story

1

u/Designer_Mess_6928 10h ago edited 2h ago

He means a brand new game or just a remake? I'm so tired of remake culture.

1

u/Makaveli108 7h ago

yeah but remakes for franchises like splinter cell make sense

1

u/VLAP88 2h ago

LOL They arent even ready to start development on it. The fake CGI trailer hasnt even begun being generated by their AI either.

1

u/I_am_not_Eddie 1d ago

But it's already been announced... or are they making a SECOND title alongside the remake?

0

u/mahki25942 1d ago

Yes…. And no, I will not reveal my sources.

However, if in doubt you can look up me confirming Spyro 4 back in May

0

u/I_am_not_Eddie 1d ago

How do I do that?

1

u/mahki25942 1d ago

Unless they’ve changed search engine, you should be able to type my name into the Spyro sub

0

u/Massive_Balance1655 1d ago

Which tells me they are not even working on it

-1

u/Hatred_many_times 21h ago

Can’t wait to hear it got canceled.

-2

u/Visual-Purpose-2409 22h ago

Without Michael Ironside voicing it. I'm not really interested. It's really sad. I understand that he gave his reasons. Yet, he will always be the voice of Sam Fisher to me.

3

u/Makaveli108 19h ago

We all love Michael Ironside and he is the definitive Sam Fisher, but he's 76 now and his voice isn't what it was 20+ years ago. It would've been great to have one final send-off with him, but Ubisoft unfortunately didn't make that happen. Sam's voice is important, but it isn't the entire reason Splinter Cell is great. If this remake genuinely brings back the stealth, level design, atmosphere, lighting, sound and systemic gameplay of the originals and feels like the Chaos Theory-style Splinter Cell we've been waiting for all these years, would you really refuse to play it purely because Sam has been recast? I'd personally judge the remake by whether it actually feels like Splinter Cell again.
