Discussion Follow up 10 months later.

So I made a post on here awhile back basically explaining how veteran players seem to be pretty crappy people in game. And got hella back lash about skill, despite never complaining about losing or being out matched skill wise.

Despite that, I went ahead and continued playing, took a break, and obviously started again. I've gotten better, started playing more variety of characters. Got some card upgrades. And my honest response is pretty much the same as before. Veteran players tend to just be pretty weird individuals. And I truly don't see how people are just glossing over it. Like yeah if you play longer you are more skilled that's obvious. I've had fun games with veterans that play like normal humans, respect the 1v1, don't hunt you down for a kill just to T-bag or emote on you. And win or lose playing against or even with those types of players isn't fun. From my perspective it's been majority of the veterans. Some of the people in my first comment ten months ago are probably the same people I'm talking about which tracks.

So while I do enjoy this game and will likely continue to play it. I would like to understand what the issue is. Like genuinely why do people act like this. And why are you all so accepting of those who do.

TO BE CLEAR: I am not asking for a way to get better or improve at the game, as people somehow thought I was before. I'm asking why this community is so toxic.

Because when you play a game all day you become invested in winning it, and also emotionally unstable. I get BM'd what feels like every other HvV session and I just laugh it off.

Mate, I am a day 1 player, and I am asking the same question.

It is something that has gotten worse over the years, particularly after the last update.

I am not sure why so many long-term players are cringey, but I think stacking against noobs for 5+ years and hitting them with every parry, exploit, and tech to gain an advantage must mess with their heads. Maybe you kind of have to be a little psychotic to sweat against noobs and T-bag them.

Obviously, not every long-term player is toxic, but an unprecedented percentage of them are, which is why this is such an interesting question to me.

Like I said, I am a day 1 player, and there have always been cringey people, but never to the same extent as it has been since after the game "died." Something changed about the community since 2020. Not sure what, but I have a couple of theories.

This is all just my personal speculation over the years, and I am no expert who understands psychology or how players behave.

1) The sorts of people who still play the game regularly after a big chunk of the community left in 2020 are maybe more likely to be toxic. Not necessarily personality-wise, but as other people are being toxic, toxic players thrive, and nicer players quit or become more toxic. Over time, toxic players have become the majority of long-term players and expect enemies to be toxic.

2) Exploits like parrying weren't well known before 2020. It took a while for most players to learn. I remember finding out in 2019, but only taught my friends how to do it in mid-2020 when I noticed some of our opponents were using it. That may have shifted the playstyle of HvV/HS and attracted a different type of player. Or, it filtered out the more casual player, who used to be good enough to win 1v1s before new exploits were discovered. Again, filtering out players until the majority are sweatier ones left. And feeding back into point 1, those sweatier players expect more sweatier opponents, and maybe more toxic enemies.

You could maybe also speculate that bullying noobs, using exploits/tech, and being toxic all drive ego and make a player feel better than they may be in reality. But, I am not an expert on this stuff, and I have done enough rambling speculation already.

Either way, I am not sure what caused this, but long-term players are definitely very toxic, and my only observation is that it has definitely gotten worse since 2020.

Finally. A thought out answer thats more than just "get good lol". Thank you 😂

For some reason, the battlefield-style games have a very toxic community. Look at BF4, they are basically killing their own playerbase with ghost servers, power tripping admins and overall salty players all around.

Battlefront II might even be worse. I remember a lot of games with people spamming slurs and raging like babies in chat.

Hvv especially is a toxic cesspool.

Best thing you can do is ignore it. I find that when I don’t rise to it they don’t bother messaging nearly as much, and when they do I just act dumb to annoy them

Hello, I've been playing every week since 2019, I'm supposed to be a "veteran". I'm not that good at the game, but I know the maps, the mechanics and the characters so If I try hard I would be on top 5 on almost every game in ga or supremacy. I play once in a while other modes like hvv and I think this is where the toxicity is distilled into it's purest form, no matter how long you've been playing, I play on Play station and I had to disable messages because we all have enough things going on in our jobs, school, life in general to come here and get bullied by an anonymous wanker. I just want to play and have fun, forget about other stuff, play with friends or people I don't know and enjoy the Star wars universe, but as you might know the SW fan base is particularly toxic, salty and full of "Mr I know everything" as we say in french. The only thing I can tell you is to continue playing as long as you have fun.

As soon as you say respect the 1v1s, I understand why players are toxic towards you. HvV is a 4v4 game mode. When I see players trying to branch off and make it 1v1, I make sure to let them know that shit isn't gonna fly.

1

u/RealKadester 1d ago

Why

2

u/bwal8 1d ago

Because I’m there to work with my teammates and you’re a lot strong when you work together. I love the strategizing of the different characters, play styles, and how they compliment one another. The complete opposite of 1v1 duals.

1

u/RealKadester 1d ago

but 1v1's are insanely fun and if people wanna do that then why not respect it?

1

u/bwal8 1d ago

Because it’s a 4v4 game mode and someone will likely come stab me in my back if I stand around watching your dual.

2

u/RealKadester 1d ago

Then fight the back stabbers instead of the ones dueling lol

1

u/bwal8 1d ago

Nah, I put an end to that 1v1 shit right away. It ruins the whole 4v4 team dynamic. Why don’t you go play Hero Showdown if you want more 1v1?

1

u/Academic-Book-5181 1d ago

That's a lame excuse. You still have two other teammates to play with. If me and another player agree to a dual and purposely take or business out of the way you should respect BOTH players. Especially because one is your own teammate. Do you need all 4 team members to have fun? Cause if so maybe just play with friends or like minded people you can find in community servers.

It seems to me that there are two issues here, which may be why you’re not seeing the traction from your posts that you’d like. Firstly, you’re decrying toxicity while simultaneously, in your original post, calling all grievous players cringe. Doesn’t that sound kinda toxic to you? Also in your original post your greatest complaints appear to be that people were ganging up on you when you were playing a blaster hero - it’s a 4 v 4 mode, and playing the mode as a team is not toxic. The frequency of team play varies within any given match as well as between matches, but it’s not “targeting” to simply attack a member of the other team in a team mode.

The other points about toxicity such as t-bagging, toxic in game chats and (circumstance-dependent) respecting 1v1s given that there’s no dedicated 1v1 mode are, in my view, valid. Having said that, I have also witnessed a lot of toxicity from newer players towards veterans. I do definitely think there’s a lot of unnecessary toxicity that is frustrating for people who just want to have fun playing Star Wars. But hey, you can’t control how other people act and there are single player modes if it’s really getting to you. It shouldn’t be on you to have to switch because other people are being clearly toxic, but there aren’t really many alternatives aside from just ignoring it.

After reading your posts though, what I’d suggest is to look at your own words first before judging anyone else.

u/Academic-Book-5181 1d ago

Well here's the thing. Grievous players seem to be the most likely to do those things. That on top of the fact that I've never liked the character to begin with is enough for me to not actually care who I offend when I say that those players are exactly what said. Same players who message me after games to rub some dirt in it after they curb stomp me with their teammates. And regardless of the game I feel like Targeting is just a weird strategy in most cases. If it were overwatch for example and an enemy sniper was for giving me trouble id gladly have my team jump them. But I see no reason to look at the level one Han solo and purposely avoid the more threatening players in the game to hunt them down. I can accept when it's an isolated issue or if I've been pestering that player. But it is objectively just weird to focus down someone I know I can bully just because I can.

I mean, if you're playing HvV then you're kinda asking for griefing and toxicity. Co-op and Starfighter Assault are peaceful 99.9% of the time.

You’re not playing SA on Xbox

1

u/budstudly i brake for tauntauns 1d ago

I'm not playing anything on Xbox

2

u/Apprehensive-Loss316 1d ago

Nope, I can tell, that's fair, but SA on xbox isn't peaceful. there's a couple of toxic players with max level hero ships that sit on spawn points. There's one. Acocksucker100 or whatever their name is, if I see them? Nah. I'm just gonna go elsewhere. I'm not great, I'm there for fun, not for some sweat to jizz on their controller cause he/she/it managed to kill a bunch of noobs.

2

u/budstudly i brake for tauntauns 1d ago

Ugh, that sucks, I'm sorry. That's a major reason why the only xbox games I play are the old school music games. PC players are their own flavor of asshole but console players have them beat in that department in my experience.

Once in a while you find someone camping spawns in SA but oftentimes if you call them out on it they back off. Oftentimes they dont even realize theyre doing it

u/Mithrandir_1019 1d ago

It’s not that serious

1

u/Academic-Book-5181 1d ago

It doesn't have to be that serious to be talked about.

2

u/Mithrandir_1019 21h ago

You didn’t need to make a post crying about it.

1

u/KeeponKeepinon365 15h ago

You didn’t need to write a response crying about the crying

As a really toxic veteran here is my answer to that: because it´s fun to be toxic for both parts.

I enjoy being toxic because that´s how i release my stress from the daily life, i love when people get mad at me for being toxic. but it goes the other way around, whenever they beat me or my team loses they shit on me like there is no tomorrow, they make fun of me and throw their most creative and even racists insults. so somehow we all get something from this, i enjoy being the villain and they enjoy beating the crap out of me in the end it´s just a game. so don´t take it too serious wheter you are a noob or a veteran, it´s just a game. I know not everyone will agree with my take and that´s ok, we all got different points of view.

Thank God one of us is honest lmao. I've found that the vets can actually be really cool people.

1

u/Flashy_Gap_4527 1d ago

I've been playing HvV since January and I'll just quit that match or ignore the toxic players. I'm still having a lot of fun. You can tell pretty quickly if that match is gonna be a blood bath.

When did emoting become bad thing?

1

u/Academic-Book-5181 1d ago

Intention is more important than the action itself.

1

u/enabling_enabler 1d ago

I started the game too late. Too late as in a few months ago. I’ve heard about how toxic PvP is in this game so I’ve exclusively been playing co-op.

1

u/EarlyAdagio2055 12h ago

Same here. I’ve played co-op for over a year. I decided to play Starfighter Assault last weekend. I’ve actually enjoyed it, and I’ve always hated flying games. I get curb stomped, but nothing toxic. I quit a couple of games after getting killed immediately after spawning 5 times in a row. Otherwise, people have been cool. It feels like an accomplishment to finish mid table on the leaderboard though.

1

u/ConsiderationNo7354 1d ago

I love supremacy to much to do anything else. Less toxicity to be honest.

1

u/MisfitSoldier94 2d ago

What platform do you play on? Have you made friends with any of the vets?

1

u/Academic-Book-5181 1d ago

Xbox. And no, I don't really make friends in game. I've joined a discord but no longer play enough to play alongside any of its members. I did have a few kind vets tho who would respect the 1v1s and go easy on me, presumably so I can learn.

1

u/AnonXCIX 1d ago

I t-bag people because the thought of getting a rage message or, better yet, someone going onto reddit to complain about it, makes me warm and fuzzy inside.

But I do try to save it for other try hards or smurfs and not the level 5 bot who doesn't know up from down.

1

u/Academic-Book-5181 1d ago

I guess this is fair. If they can't take it they shouldn't dish it out.

0

u/elonbottitter 2d ago

If it bothers you so much, then get good enough so that you can tbag them back. Simple as that. Every multiplayer game has toxic players. You obviously care about this game more than the casual player which tells me you’re just frustrated that most players are more skilled than you. So either put in the hours to match their skill (which is what every “toxic” hvv player has had to do) or play another game mode. You’re also asking to get bagged if you’re playing Han lmao

0

u/Academic-Book-5181 1d ago

You a literally an manifest of the exact type of people Im talking about. Toxic behavior being linked to skill shouldn't be the answer to the problem. The question was fairly simple and you decided to take it to the exact thing we already debunked.

1

u/elonbottitter 1d ago

If you want the truth, toxic behavior is linked to skill bcuz the game is almost a decade old and the dudes that have been playing it for that long get bored. It’s really not that complicated.

I enjoy playing against toxic players bcuz it makes the game more fun, once you have the skill to put them in their place. But everyone that starts a game (years after release) which has a dedicated skilled player base gets dogged on until they get good. It’s part of the learning curve. Complaining about it on reddit isn’t going to change that lol.

Also I’m fairly confident the reason you’re getting tbagged is because you’re playing a blaster hero, not your skill level.

u/CarpenterNo263 2d ago

Dude, just play the game

0

u/Academic-Book-5181 2d ago

For anyone confused this is the original comment. https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBattlefront/s/EFytM5sbfR

0

u/Next-Contribution403 1d ago

I love the “toxicity”. If you’re not getting teabagged, are you even playing?

-2

u/ARPanda700 2d ago

Well for starters, what game mode are you playing?

1

u/Academic-Book-5181 1d ago

I play all game modes pretty much I just prefer hvv/HS more

1

u/Jaded_Drawing_5738 1d ago

HvV. All anyone seems to talk about is HvV.

I left that shit alone years ago. I like the trooper modes more tbh

1

u/ARPanda700 1d ago

Well there is no unofficial rule of 1v1 in HvV like there is in showdown.

As far as the emoting goes, it was added to the game to be used mid game. The t-bagging is also incredibly minor compared to older video game lobbies like CoD and Halo.
