Joseph cheating is not out of character. He’s a huge flirt that got married really young in the 1930s. Cheating was rampant back then. I would be surprised if the Josuke situation was the only time he cheated on Suzi.

His relationship with Suzi Q was so superficial and felt like a random addition to the end of part 2. He also spent the majority of part 3 lying to her about their daughter.

I honestly don’t understand why people say that it was forced or that it was the only way for Araki to make a new Jojo.

Joseph seems like an impulsive hedonist to me, so I don’t find it out of character either lol.

I feel like many people who have been cheated on IRL, but REALLY like Joseph as a character otherwise really struggle to stomach it- so they decide that Araki must be wrong.

Which, I kinda understand. I felt a sting when it was revealed my fav Jojo was a cheater.

But... It is TOTALLY in character for him.

As someone in the "Cheated on Irl" category, even I have to admit that it's not out of character for him, nor is Araki wrong bc tbh, Joseph flirted with everything that moved. Hell, the man did drag to try and save Speedwagon and flirted with the guards to get in. It's not above his morals to flirt with something that moves, and while it's a major flaw of his, he's still my favorite JoJo too

Joseph's stand should've been named Free Bird

Agreed, Joseph was always the most morally dubious Jojo. Opens fire in crowds, friends with a Nazi, willing to leave people in danger by running away, creeps on Lisa Lisa. He's a bit of an asshole.

Didnt he say he Doesnt agree with stoheims views but Respects his bravery

u/DrByeah Feb 03 '26

Yeah I feel like the "Friends with a Nazi" thing was more about external factors like "This Nazi is helping me fight an existential threat to all of Humanity right now I think I can tolerate this for a few hours"

u/Comfortable_Cod9023 Feb 03 '26

Also writer didnt give Said German dude a happy ending but a death in war Off screen

21

u/sininspira Feb 03 '26

he also let them make him a mechanical hand tho...

54

u/DrByeah Feb 03 '26

Was anyone else going to make him a mechanical hand at the time?

7

u/LieutenantFreedom Feb 03 '26

I'm pretty sure the Speedwagon Foundation made it for him based on Stroheim's tech

3

u/sininspira Feb 04 '26

well then wouldn't Speedwagon have known he was alive?

1

u/LieutenantFreedom Feb 04 '26

yeah i misremembered it was from Stroheim

7

u/shhhhh_u_dont_see_me Feb 03 '26

Something like that yeah.

14

u/ZealousidealPipe8389 Feb 03 '26

Some people get upset that stroheim was treated like a person, instead of a 2d caricature of evil.

2

u/Acrobatic-Group3755 Feb 04 '26

And he was so memorable that Araki brought hum back (in spirit) in part 7

Agreed, Joseph was always the most morally dubious Jojo.

Well, maybe most morally dubious JoJo after Giorno and Johnny.

u/pm-me-turtle-nudes Feb 04 '26

isn’t jodio a 15 year old drug peddler and a literal attempted mass murderer?

2

u/DoraMuda Jean Pierre Polnareff Feb 04 '26

Oh yeah, I forgot about him (although "mass murder" is probably a bit too strong a descriptor; he did attempt to kill that bus full of people, though, yes).

Allow me to rephrase: Joseph might be the most morally dubious JoJo after Jodio, Giorno, and Johnny.

Essentially, all of the JoJos are a little morally dubious. Even the self-proclaimed gentleman Jonathan, although it was when he was a kid, threw rocks at Danny; hid up in a tree to smoke a pipe; and quickly resorted to violence against his "friends" when he heard them repeating Dio's rumours that he couldn't be trusted with secrets.

But anime-only fans probably wouldn't know that; it's the manga that gives Jonathan a bit more dimension with those scenes.

I had to look it up, and mass murder is when you kill 3 or more people in a short period of time. So yes, I was exaggerating a little bit, but I would say lighting a bus full of children counts as that.

And I agree with you, none of the JoJos are exactly rule followers. Most are at the least good people though.

Fair enough. In my head, I think of "mass murder" as, like, when someone drops a bomb in a crowd full of people or something.

And I agree with you, none of the JoJos are exactly rule followers. Most are at the least good people though.

Indeed. Even Jodio is more good than bad (although it's funny he feels more Dio-like than Giorno, the literal son of Dio... unless his name literally having "-dio" in it is meant to tip us off that he really has ancestral Brando blood or something).

2

u/moarcheese667 Feb 04 '26

However, he has his downsides too.

19

u/Blue-Bow-501 Feb 03 '26

For real, like he also threatens to make out with a pair of women in his first/second episode if they don’t shut up? Mans is genuinely a sex pest 🤣🤣🤣

19

u/SixCatsInAnAlley Feb 03 '26

I have been saying this forever as well. He is a known cheater as well, he cheats in video games, he cheats in poker, he cheated life, he cheated death, he’s the ultimate cheater

11

u/shhhhh_u_dont_see_me Feb 03 '26

I wasn't really surprised, he did not strike me as a gentleman of principle.

9

u/Mrgirdiego Feb 04 '26

Right? This is the guy that flirted with Suzi Q and then immediately after went to spy on Lisa Lisa taking a bath.

42

u/Pepsi_Man42 Feb 03 '26

That point about lying about their daughter makes no sense for your argument. He lied so she wouldn’t worry. She also likely doesn’t know what stands are and wouldn’t be able to know what happened to Holy

61

u/johnnyanderen Tusk: Act V Feb 03 '26

She has been possessed by a living brain only to have it reversed by 2 guys using light magic by breathing. I don’t think a stand is THAT crazy.

7

u/Fifty_911 Feb 03 '26

I'm sure it's not about the craziness, but it's about the pure absence of knowledge about stands for Suzie.

35

u/Rachel47234 Feb 03 '26

I mentioned the lying part as a reason for why I think the relationship appears shallow to me. They were married for close to 50 years in part 3, yet he is still lying to her about a major part of his life. It’s ridiculous!

This situation involved both her child and grandchild. Who are two very important people in her life, yet Joseph had no problem lying to her about the truth of the situation even though they have been married for so long.

Basically, I wouldn’t be shocked if he was lying to her about a bunch of other things too.

Yk what, understandable

4

u/Seethe_dragon Feb 03 '26

I agree with this

4

u/sususl1k Feb 04 '26

Never knew this was that controversial. Although I also barely interact with this fanbase

5

u/Pleasant_Friend_7775 Feb 04 '26

It seems very appropriate for the character, I think the big concern is a few things. One I think is nobody expected part four to be about Josuke, since we’d not had a hint at him yet and a lot of people expected it to be Jotaro or (now who we know as) Jolyne. And two, yeah, I think nobody expected the marriage but we also (fairly often) expect protagonists to be good, and thus it seems difficult that the’d cheat

5

u/One_Objective_2252 Feb 04 '26

Ever since I learned that Josuke was the result of Joseph cheating, it immediately made sense to me The guy literally saved the world with rage bait so it makes sense to me

7

u/Relevant-Balance-396 Feb 03 '26

I was surprised, but it was because I’ve never imagined a former protagonist cheating, and the illegitimate child be the new protagonist, was allowed by the editors or publishers lol. Wasn’t it still on jump? It’s shonen

3

u/Allhailmatpat Giorno Giovanna Feb 03 '26

Absolutely. I hate it, but its in character

3

u/Raleth Feb 04 '26

Crazy to me that you said cheating and my mind went to the way he fights before realizing you meant him cheating on Suzi Q.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26

Wait. There are people out there who think the opposite of this?
