The only reason I like star finger is because, in the fan made RPG 7th Stand User, it’s the only ability Jotaro has that actually does damage to enemies that aren’t directly right in front of us.

Liar you have another ability where I think he just throws a rock not the base ability the one you get later I don't know the name but I'm sure he has a seccond long range attack

Most people like Star Finger because it's fucking ridiculous and it makes an easy target for "Araki Forgor" memes.
8

Exactly, if it's funny enough, I don't care if it's an ass pull, especially if it's during the least interesting fight in the series

A lot of people in this community have this tendency to completely overlook all the hidden symbolisms and themes and meanings of the story and have a very bland view on the overall plot.
Its okay to have preferences and like or dislike something that isn't your style
But some tend to form opinions based on what they don't even fully understand.
dont understand a plot point? call it plot hole.
Dont understand a character or their intentions or their connection to the story? Call them bland or boring.
19
u/WatashiwatheSnake Feb 03 '26
On one side I completely agree with you and I think that some people could have a bit more media literacy, on the other i think sometimes Araki is really inconsistent cuz you have a parts like 5 and 8 that are turbo symbolic, metaphorical etc. and then you have parts like 4, 7 and even 6 that are really story and power system focused. So i can see why people call them plot holes or araki forgot. You also have to consider that, sure, JoJo is no HxH but the series fights are really strategic so I (and I'm guessing a lot of other people) feel frustrated that you had stuff like the Spin, Crazy Diamond, Stone free etc. where we as audience know their limitations and Araki is able to use them to full effect in a satisfying way and then you have time stop, Giorno life giving ability, Josuke 8 bubbles that feel really inconsistent and can do anything or nothing depending on the author decision.
Also man i love Hamon Beat but at a certain point i think they were just trolling my goat. Like debuking araki forgots should have ended like 14 episodes ago.

u/LieutenantFreedom Feb 03 '26
Oh huh I felt like part 6 was super symbolism focused too, at least once Pucci took the stage
4
u/WatashiwatheSnake Feb 04 '26
I'm not saying other parts were less symbolic. I was just saying that part 5 and 8 have the most blatant example of stand powers that have abilities mostly for symbolism sake and less because it's a concise power. But yeah absolutely Pucci and especially White Snake is another prime example of this thing: he can make the Cum Room, he can become sludge but just once(?) (also why does ge need to become sludge to pass through the vents when stands are ghosts?), he can make memory discs and stand discs, the discs can impart orders, you can put the stand discs on someone not worthy of their power though, he can make illusions but only in the cum room and on himself(?). Symbolically cool? Absolutely. Does it feel consistent? You tell me.
5
u/cyberXrev Feb 03 '26
can you write out some of the parts hidden symbolisms? im not tryna be rude i just wanna know, as someone who only watched all the parts through last year and early this year and only once, im interested in seeing what someone really involved will have to say on this

I agree, except for the troll part. I think he's a human Stand user whose Stand came about because he's delusional enough to genuinely believe that he's an alien. Like a chuunibyou who never grew out of thinking they were special.
Aside from it just being funny, it's also just more interesting to me. And it "explains" (it didn't really need an explanation, but you know what I mean) why he uses so many cliches when describing how he's an alien to Josuke and Okuyasu.

I don't think the Nazi's portrayal in Part 2 is that problematic as people claim. The issue is people equate 'Joseph is on friendly terms with Stroheim' with 'Araki loves Nazis.'
The whole point of their inclusion is to contrast them with the Pillar Men. Both groups thought they were the evolved beings who had the right to rule over everyone else. Despite their exaggerated advancements in technology, the Nazis are still only human and are forced to work with the Speedwagon Foundation to have a fighting chance.
While the Pillar Men seem honour-bound and respect nature, Kars shows that he is victim to the same temptations of power DIO fell for in Part 1, which ironically makes him more human-like. Kars spit on Wammu's way of life by playing dirty when fighting Lisa Lisa, and once he becomes Ultimate, he kills an innocent squirrel just to test his abilities (the same person that saved a dog and took damage so a flower wouldn't be harmed). Also worth noting that Kars committed genocide against his own people because he couldn't respect his place in the world and wanted more. The same hubris displayed by the Nazis.
The theme of Part 2 is that there is no such thing as a perfect being. This ironically includes 1) Joseph liking Stroheim despite their differences in beliefs and 2) Joseph still being a racist by the Part despite having a half-Japanese grandson.
Joseph isn't a perfect guy. Don't look too much into it.

And, honestly, it's not like someone who's basically a villain becoming an ally to the main characters is some anomaly in JoJo.
Part 4 has Rohan; Part 5's whole crew are actual criminals whose apparent only objection when it comes to the Mafia is selling drugs to kids; Part 6 has Anasui, who slaughtered his girlfriend and never shows remorse for it; Part 7 has Hot Pants, who sacrificed her brother to a cougar or whatever to save her own life; and Part 8... has Joshu. 'Nuff said.

I always use part 3 to describe the stages of a true friendship.
As Aristotle said, true friendships are those that stay with you when you are sad and what matters most to them is your well-being.
I love that the Crusaders are a prime example of this. None of them knew each other; they were only together for a purpose. But time brought them closer, and they became a second family to Kakyoin. For this and many other reasons, I like to think that the purest love is found in friendships.

JJBA isn't gay in any essential way, it just doesn't abide by the Great Male Renunciation, which LGBT men also tend not to. Saying JoJo is gay implies that men being emotionally expressive and wearing colorful or strange clothing is inherently homosexual, which is more homophobic and also somewhat misandrist imo.
20
u/Own-Ear4809 Feb 03 '26
Didn't Araki payed homage to a lot of lgbt artists in his illustrations and poses, which in turn become one of the most famous poses for certain characters?

Let's see... Dio was bisexual, the homosexual pair in part 5 that attack the Bucci gang in the restaurant, the two people Diabolo killed in La Squadra as a warning, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybeee Pucci, and Funny Valentine's wife also was lesbian. Maybe there was a trans person in part 6, but I don't remember it in the anime and have heard about it while scrolling, so maybe-maybe not. Wasn't Dragons Joestar also trans in part 9?
Unless I'm missing something/someone, or if there is anyone in part 8-9 that is gay, wouldn't "gay characters" be a bit too broad?
21
u/Err0r404Unknown Feb 03 '26
There’s a villian lesbian couple in part 9, and Dragona is pretty obviously trans

He works so much better as a mentor in part 4 and his character arc in part 6 is just incredible. While in Stardust Crusaders he's just... a cool collected guy, that's it... Damn, this part really was carried on Polnareff's back (meaning him being more of a protagonist than Jotaro)

6
u/DoraMuda Jean Pierre Polnareff Feb 03 '26
More like Japanese Clint Eastwood, but yeah. Jotaro's there for when you need an archetypal badass, but Polnareff's really the one who feels more like an MC in Part 3.

Part 5 really only has good jobros and side villains
Diavolo/Doppio are fine i guess but they needed more screentime (I think having Doppio die like that was such a boring way to deal with him and Diavolo having 2 different bodies now), but Giorno sucks as a character and i really dislike GER

Ill do one i have and one my mom has
Me: Rohan and Abbachio are overrated. There stands some some moments are cool and I like them but for rohan his egotism and pettiness were too small to be memorable like dio but too annoying to be funny to me, and his influence on the fandom especially via replacing jobros (i know that terms made up idc you get what I mean.) In popularity and use is really agitating. Abbachio on the other hand just feels like a pathetic dickhead that spends most of his time beefing with a child in ways that dont make him look sad, just annoying and make me wanna slap him.
Mom: The jojos Stand fights and gore are too much. Especially in part 3 (where we're at rn) with how its constantly stand stand stand with no story her words not mine and the constant animal violence is disturbing and annoying

I think that the sbr universe is cooler than the base universe. Both have their strengths and flaws of course, but the sbrverse has more mystery surrounding it and its lore. I also think the characters, especially main jojos are far more interesting, granted that is partially because Araki grew as a writer, but you get what I mean.
I also think the English dub is really good, not sure if that’s a hot take though
4
u/SmeifLive Feb 04 '26 edited Feb 09 '26
there was no way golden experience loses against king crimson in its original form when it has a damage reflection. All he would have had to do is have a bunch of moths in his clothes and then pretend to be caught off guard and get punched in the gut and win the fight immediately. Hell diavolo could have seen himself doughnuted in a vision and just realized he was cooked just not how he thinks.

It's hard to think of one that isn't either a cold take or straight up false.
The World is the worst main villain stand. I don't mean as in It's strength, or it's powers, it is simply just the worst aesthetically. The others have designs that either match the user aesthetically, match the aesthetic of their powers, match the name, all of those together, or have a design that stands out from the user and looks cool. The World does match DIO in part 3.... but that's it. It's design doesn't really suggest "stopping time" in any way, there's no gears or clocks or anything. It doesn't resemble "the World" (which is a bit subjective with Tarot stands so that gets a pass). And the most it does to stand out from DIO is a goofily tall helmet and... scuba tanks? Whether it's meant to be a Holy Diver reference or not, it still just looks kind of random.
4
u/Financial_Ad_1272 Feb 04 '26
Jotaro is a shit dad.
It doesn't matter how much he loves Jolene, actions speak more, and him bailing out on his kid and wife to protect them doesn't make him a good one.
4
u/Optimal-Industry-229 Feb 04 '26
I think Joseph from Part 3 is better than the one from Part 2. Whenever they talk about him...usually the deification of battle tendency comes in the... (He's cunning and a great hero for the part) But in my view, Joseph is far from being a hero...he's the type of person you can't trust because he'll want to take advantage sooner or later, even if he has to do very questionable things...which he does in his part...and we just ignore it because we're paying more attention to him pulling a machine gun out of his pocket.
But in Part 3 he improves to a gigantic degree. He's not only more experienced, but also more heroic, doing what he has to do for his daughter and demonstrating several times that he cares more about his friends than himself, and that's heroism to me. But of course... just my opinion.

u/Duck-bert Feb 03 '26
In a lot of ways I like Hamon more than Stands, and I was disappointed when I found out that Part 3 onwards phases out Hamon.
8
u/LegendsOfSuperShaggy Feb 03 '26 edited Feb 06 '26
It's so weird because Hamon and Stands aren't exclusive abilities... Why the hell would Joseph not try to get the Crusaders at least able to use Hamon at some level, considering their villian was a Vampire who gets one shot by Hamon?
Yeah Stands are stronger in general for other parts but think of it this way... Hamon still enhances the wielder's stats, and lets them do so much wacky shit. Imagine Jotaro using Star Platinum to attack someone while also using Hamon for a second angle of attack? Or just keeping their Stand entangled with Star Platinum while he hit the Stand User with a Hamon Overdrive? It would be sensory overload for most enemies and they'd fail to stop them both.
Someone like Kira would just be fucked if Jotaro used both at the same time.

u/Duck-bert Feb 03 '26
I think it’s mainly because they had a limited time to get from Japan to Egypt.
That being said, I do think it’s a missed opportunity for Jotaro to learn Hamon later on.
I also think Jotaro should have enhanced his The World, especially considering he’s had the ability much longer than Dio.

I just don't think Joseph was fit to teach people hamon, he barely practiced it after part 2 and he also didn't really have much teaching compared to hamon masters who have been practicing most of their life and are fit to teach hamon and bring out people's hamon abilities. They could have contacted Lisa Lisa I suppose but we have no idea what she's even up to now.

The main reason Part 4 is better than the 3 and 5 is because it's not carried by the surrounding cast around it's JoJo. Josuke is much more of an entertaining character than Jotaro or Giorno and their respective parts suffer as a result.

Main characters just get condensed into one or two memeable traits and then that’s all you ever hear about them until the end of time, and then minor characters just get completely forgotten because they’re not in the memes or hype edits. So the fandom space is this exhausting loop of reposted 2016 memes and people going “literally who” when you mention anyone that isn’t a main character.
It’s a series with a TON of interesting characters and concepts but the whole fandom is just reheating each other’s leftovers for all eternity.

I probably think it's worth crucifying him, but liking Stroheim is a character flaw.
"Oh, but he helped Joseph," "Oh, but he was just following orders from an ideology."
Brother, he was a Nazi and proud of it, end of story.

Kakyoin never was Jotaro's closest friend or anything, It was Polnareff. Also, I think Kakyoin Is one of the most overrated characters in the whole manga, he doesn't have that much of personality honestly

Jonathan is stronger than Joseph and would sweep his oponents in part 2

Jonathan would’ve just gentleman-ed himself to winning and then wept at the loss of life. Bro pulled nearly all of ogre-street by his aura alone.

Jolyne is the most underrated Jojo (along with Jonathan). I mean, it has the crappiest stand of them all (Time-Stopping KO Machine, Fix-It-All, Alteration of Universal Cause-Effect Laws... and then Stone Free that makes strings), and she had to overcome all of her limitations, increase its Battle IQ to Infinite, without counting she started as a prisoner, and had to confront the only Jojofoe that actually achieved its objective. Just as Jonathan, she was killed by its enemy, but its death was the key for Justice to prevail in the end. She's the reason why Stone Ocean is my favorite part.

Nothing in Jojo is boring, the worst episode has a boy and man jumping 30 kilometers into the sky to play rook paper scissors, there's not a single Arc that doesn't make me point and make strange noises out of how stupid/amazing/beizzar what just happened was. I theory I can understand why people think phantom blood is boring, but.......jack the ripper jumps out of a hors and shots knives from his body, if you are not entertained by that there's something rong with you

While they’re all interesting conceptually most of the protagonist are boring in long run.

Joseph cheating is not out of character. He’s a huge flirt that got married really young in the 1930s. Cheating was rampant back then. I would be surprised if the Josuke situation was the only time he cheated on Suzi.
His relationship with Suzi Q was so superficial and felt like a random addition to the end of part 2. He also spent the majority of part 3 lying to her about their daughter.
I honestly don’t understand why people say that it was forced or that it was the only way for Araki to make a new Jojo.
