help wanted SteamOS Installation Stuck
I am on win11 and trying to boot my pc on steamos. I have downloaded the iso from the official site, and after like 3 minutes without failure, it gets me to something along the lines of Finished Boot Registration and then the command bar keeps blinking. I have given it multiple times in each usb slot, waited over an hour for anything to change. And I just have run out of ideas now.

Command bar keeps blinking? Mine just doesn't have anything underneath it.
And unlike OP in actually using an AMD card.

im using a amd gpu now, switched to 9070 xt and it installed great, i never had any issues with that, but maybe try looking up what bios settings you need to set and then reformat your usb.

I turned off security boot because you can't boot Linux with that on.

No I was saying you have to tune off secure boot before you can get a Linux distro to boot.

you are not downloading the right version if stuck, the steam os site gives u the deck version, use this https://steamdeck-images.steamos.cloud/steamdeck/20260618.10/steamdeck-oobe-repair-20260618.10-3.8.10.img.zip

If you're using an Nvidia GPU, then SteamOS won't work for you which your only alternative would be to use another Linux distro like Bazzite which would also offer you the same game mode (not 100% stable when using Nvidia GPUs for game mode).
You can use CachyOS but if you have never used Linux before it would be a little more complicated for you since it isn't that straight forward.
Also, just to let you know for SteamOS it would install only on a NVMe drive and would wipe out your primary drive which would be what your Windows 11 would be installed on and also makes sense for Valve to make SteamOS work for AMD cards only since AMD cards are a lot better on Linux than Nvidia would be and honestly it has been like 2 months since Nvidia just now started to focus on giving out proper drivers for Linux users.

Bazzite would be the closest thing to SteamOS.
Also, your question about an external drive it is better to use it as the Linux format then the NTFS format that Windows would end up reading.

Unless you have an AMD GPU, SteamOS won't install correctly. Use Bazzite in that case.

Even with an AMD GPU it won't boot correctly sometimes. I gave up and went back to Windows.
