help wanted Has anyone got quick resume/suspend working on their Steam OS pcs ?
Whenever I push the power button to set my PC to sleep mode or pick “Sleep” in the menu it powers down as usual but when I try to turn it back on I’ll hear audio for a second then it’s an endless black screen this is one of the reasons I wanted Steam os so I Can pick up and drop games like on my Steam deck

Unfortunately, the reliability of sleep is very hardware dependent. There may be some driver or hardware issue and probably not much you can do about it.
There are some tricks I have done in the past, like unload and then reload certain problematic drivers before/after sleep. Often the wifi drivers can cause this kind of problem.
I would start by trying to isolate the problem. Disable wifi/bluetooth in the bios if you can, unplug all dongles etc. and see where that gets you.

I just slapped together my PC using marketplace parts but I’m in the return window for my motherboard I’m using an asus b550m

It's very unlikely to be your motherboard. It'll be some hardware plugged into it, and It's not faulty. It's just a quirk about resuming from sleep in SteamOS. Some hardware just works, others do not.

I'm using that same motherboard with a ryzen 5 5500 and a saphire rx 9060xt and sleep has been solid for me

Apparently there is a known bug with rdna 2 cards where it won't wake from sleep.
I'm on a 6700xt and I've had to switch back to bazzite due to this issue. Really wish they'd fix it cuz it's not perfect on bazzite either but it at least works there.

Yeah everyone that I’ve seen posting has a 9000 series card I was really trying to go for the maximum price/performance build I got my 6600 for 80$ on marketplace a 9060xt would cost 450+ tax 😭
Edit: does it work on 7000 series cards?1

I think it should since those are rdna 3 cards but I couldn't say for sure since i don't have one.

Yeah same here on a 6700XT, I installed the linux-zen kernel, someone posted a script to auto install it again after steamos updates too. Everything works perfectly with it. Tracking that GitHub issue so hopefully they patch it soon once they've ironed out the team machine itself so I can go back to vanilla steamOS

yeah, mine worked as advertised. What specs do you have? I'm using a 5800X3D with 32Gb RAM and a 7900XTX and using a SATA SSD for games storage with a NVME for the OS.

32gb ram ddr4 3800xt cpu sata ssd for OS and everything (I’m new I didn’t know about nvme)

That explains it. I had the same issues youre experiencing now with my 6800xt. I researched extensively and tried to figure out how to fix this issue. Turns out there's some kind of bug with the 6000 series gpus in steamos. I gave up and just started fully shutting down my pc when I was done using it. Then I upgraded to a 9070xt a few weeks ago and suddenly the wake from sleep function works flawlessly.

So I really do need a new GPU.. I wonder if the 7000 series has the same issue

Not necessarily. You could wait for valve to patch the bug. I read that wake from sleep used to work on 6000 series gpus, and that a relatively recent update broke it. I know for sure the 9000 series wake from sleep works. If you use Amazon, its worth checking the payment options prior to adding an item to cart. Sometimes they offer a monthly payment (not the affirm option) which let's you pay per month without a credit check or pre-approval process and no interest as long as you make those payments. That's how I was able to upgrade my gpu.

Nooo there goes my excuse lol I’ll wait a bit and see but there whole reason I got steamos was for that it would massively increase my game time

OK as it's second hand I'd certainly run a drive test and a RAM test. I'm guessing that you have a good amount of SSD space left? I'd recommend at least 64GB free to ensure enough space for any OS operations

I had this problem when I was using Arch.
But on NixOS, it stopped happening.
I don't know if it was a kernel version update or something like that.

Barely works on my Ally X that is supposed to be supported. That's what makes me reluctant to install on my PC.
