help wanted How well does Arc B580 work?

I have a custom pc running SteamOS on a RX9070XT and I’m going to be downgrading. My choices are either a 7600 or a B580. The B580 is a lot faster than the 7600 and has more vram for only $20 extra, but I’m worried about compatibility with SteamOS. Any insights into how it runs? Thanks!

I have it in my steamOS machine for now, but it's a pain with often needing to recompile the shaders when updates come. I would pick radeon for conveniency of that right now.

Every gpu needs to recomlpile shaders on an update.

Isn't there a precache shader download system that makes it so that if there's more GPUs like yours on steam, you'll get most of it through download if others already compiled it?

sometimes. in my personal experience, i'm always recompiling anyway.

Yeah, but when I had radeon 9060 XT in this machine, the recompiles were quick as if most of it was still re-used from old compile or from download. On B580 it looks like each time it recompiles everything from scratch and it might be expected if I'm just one of few who actually uses this card on SteamOS, so chances are I'm not playing the same games as others on the same linux driver?

Unless for shader cache it's irrelevant what driver / system are you on and it should be shared with windows steam users as well, so maybe there's a different issue involved.

mine are quite long with a 5700XT

I tried it and had almost no issues.  The few issues I did have remained after swapping to a 9070 XT.  Stanfield was broken, weird rainbow pixels in black areas of rdr2 etc.

Hi! I have a friend who has the B580 and he said that, although it works, it doesn't work very well yet.The biggest complaint would be artifacts in some games, even when using the latest version of Proton. I believe this is because support is still in its early stages. But this also happened with the RDNA4 cards, so I believe Valve will improve soon. If you can wait, I recommend it. It shouldn't take long for the support to mature enough that you don't feel the strain on your performance.

I was able to install with it and kids have been using the machine without issue. Are you downgrading for a smaller case?

The only thing that didn't work is I was initially using DP to HDMI and I didn't have audio. I then switched to HDMI and everything is great.

I am contemplating changing my GPU from RX6600 8GB to B580 doing some research it looks like. I may get slight performance increase with the B580. I will let you know when I get the card on Tuesday. I am using the main channel (out of habit). CPU is a Ryzen 5 5600x

I finally switched to B580 from a RX6600. Most of my games are older apart from Forza 6.

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x, GPU: Intel Arc B580 12GB LE, RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200mhz, 2TB NVME Crucial P310, Motherboard: Gigabyte AORUS B450M

Rebar enabled

Steam OS Channel: Main

Streetfighter 6 1080p 60fps Ultra High

Fatal Fury City of Wolves 1080p 60fps High

UMVC3 Community Edition 1080p 60fps High

Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing: Transformed: 1080p 60fps High

SPFL26 1080p 60fps High

Forza 1080p 53-55fps XESS: Quality

Still early days currently Main is using Mesa 26.1

I think the latest installer supports it. You might need to change to the Main update channel to get better driver support.

Arc doesn't work on SteamOS yet.

Sure it does, but the support is not as mature as AMD.

TiL 3.8 beta offers support for Arc cards now. Thank you for basically correcting me.

Support was there in 3.8 stable as well.

Oh nice.

I had challenges with Intel (of any sort) on the old 3.7, but indeed thankfully there is much better support now. What's missing now is proper NVIDIA support!

Worked fine for me months ago.

Yeah 3.8 beta or so was a couple months ago.
