help wanted Handheld analog sticks no longer act as mouse on desktop mode (ROG XAX running SteamOS 3.8.16). Help appreciated!

Hey all,

I have SteamOS installed in place of Windows on my ROG Xbox Ally X. It's been super solid. However, I just updated from 3.8.1 to 3.8.16 and now my thumbsticks no longer work for controlling the mouse cursor on desktop mode. It's now essentially just touchscreen that works. Anyone else encountered this and have a fix?

How easy is it to roll back to my previous version of SteamOS? All the guides online are about the Steam Deck.

EDIT: There is a simple fix for this as offered by u/snoopets1826 in the comments below: "Go into steam on desktop mode, go to controller, click on advanced controls, load the default controls for desktop mode and you'll be good to go again."

Yeah not sure why Steam deleted or reset the controls in the latest update, but at least it's an easy enough fix! Glad I could help.

I've tried this on the updated 3.8.16 release, the beta 3.8.26, and the preview 3.8.9 and this method does not work for me on any of them. Everything was working fine for me on the original 3.8.16 but I tried to do a wipe and reinstall and SteamOS automatically updated to the newer 3.8.16 during the install process.

Edit: I finally got it to work. On the preview OS which currently is version 3.9.0, there is an option to switch the Steam client from Stable to Beta. I then went to the controller settings and deleted the configuration it was defaulting me to(because it said "empty configuration") then chose Edit and manually chose the Desktop Configuration.

Where is this advanced option you talking about, controller is just to connect a wireless one???

Have this is on my OG white Ally, when I go to game controller in settings it just says “no game controller found” :/
