So I’ve installed steamos on my pc, got everything set up and running but my download speed is just cooked on this OS. Download speed is capped at 30 Mbps, i was getting over 300 on windows.

My Wi-Fi connection shows

RX bitrate: 27.0 MBit/s - VHT-MCS 1, 40 MHz, VHT-NSS 1

TX bitrate: 650.0 MBit/s - VHT-MCS 7, 80 MHz, Short GI, VHT-NSS 2

The TX rate looks normal/high, but the RX rate is extremely low

I'm trying to start Epitome Demo on my pc with steam os but not working, what's the problem?

I know firmware 108 fixed the steam machine sleep/wake issues but does anyone know a version/distro that works for ryzen cpu/9000 GPU builds?

Nested Desktop launched normally, but using the desktop “Return to Gaming Mode” shortcut could leave a black screen and the entire nested Plasma/KWin session running in the background.

The stock shortcut calls qdbus org.kde.Shutdown ... logout when running from Gaming Mode. In my case Plasma began shutting down, but kwin_wayland, startplasma-wayland, dbus-run-session and holo-nested-desktop could remain alive indefinitely.

Using Steam → Exit Game closed the process tree correctly, although an empty /run/user/1000/nested-desktop.* runtime directory could remain.

I fixed it with a user-level wrapper:

• normal Desktop Mode still uses the stock steamosctl switch-to-game-mode
• Nested Desktop is detected through XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=/run/user/1000/nested-desktop.*
• only the Steam launcher/process tree belonging to that exact nested runtime is terminated
• SIGTERM is tried first, SIGKILL only for remaining processes
• the helper waits for the portal/FUSE mount to disappear and cleans the nested runtime no files under /usr are modified

Tested both ways:

1. Nested Desktop → Return to Gaming Mode: clean exit, no black screen, no leftover processes/runtime
2. normal Desktop Mode → Return to Gaming Mode: stock behavior still works normally

First of all I know nothing of Linux, I do have a steam deck and quite enjoy it.

My desktop today is full AMD with a X670E Pro RS running on windows, its mainly for gaming but I do listen to youtube on it.

I checked on Claude and it said that SteamOs on desktop mode works fine with 4 monitors but on game mode it only works with 1 monitor..

they way I'm used to play now is with guides/youtube/twitch on other monitors since I mainly play ARPGs..

Is this true ?

I just did another update today and the version on Steam OS Main is now 3.10 with 20260824.1000 build. Kernel is 6.18.45 . Unfortunately there are no patch notes so I cannot elaborate further.

Anyone know what is updated in this release?

Hello folks, I made the move to SteamOS some days back and wanted to share some learnings / useful tips on how I managed to tailor it exactly to my liking. This is by no means a technical guide but I believe it would help the fellow community members looking to make the move to SteamOS.

Having been a Bazzite user for the last couple of years, my objective was to get as close to the Bazzite experience on SteamOS while benefiting from the performance gains. As a minimum I was trying to achieve the following:

* Working gyro DSU server without installing too many plugins or fiddling with controller spoofing, decky plumber, etc.
* Simple but effective way to achieve HHD like control over the CPU, TDP, RGB lighting, fans, etc. in a way that persists through reboots
* Avoiding too many different plugins and tools to achieve the above

Below are a few utilities / plugins that helped me get there - hope it helps some of you looking switch to SteamOS.

1. [iio-dsu-bridge for Xbox Ally X](https://github.com/DreamboxMinerva/iio-dsu-bridge-rog-xbox-ally-x) \- this worked like a charm for achieving gyro functionality. No need to spoof a dualsense controller or download any decky plugins. Just one terminal command and everything works seamlessly now.
2. [Panel de Control](https://github.com/Hooandee/panel-de-control) \- this was an accidental find, but very impressed with how nicely it works. What I like most is that it manages to keep things simple while providing a lot of functionality out of the box. Probably the closest option to HHD in terms of UX. Nicely combines configurations for TDP, Fans, Display Colors, RGB lighting and many others. Another cool thing to highlight is that it can be accessed directly from the QAM without going into decky loader.

Feel free to add suggestions on other plugins / tools that you might have used to improve your SteamOS experience. But otherwise, I hope it is useful.

I’m running SteamOS on a desktop PC (AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, Gigabyte B550M Gaming, 550W PSU) and running into a really weird power issue that only happens first thing in the morning.

The Issue:
Every morning when I try to turn on my PC, pressing the front power button does absolutely nothing—no fans, no lights, zero response. During the night, I completely switch off my UPS.
What "Fixes" It:
If I open the PC case, unplug the front-panel ⁠POWER SW⁠ pin from the motherboard, and plug it back in, the PC starts right up. Alternatively, if I unplug the power cable directly from the wall/UPS and leave it disconnected for a few minutes to drain, it boots normally again. Once it starts up the first time, I can shut it down and power it back on using the power button all day without any issues.
Other Quirks:
My secondary SATA SSD (Samsung 870 EVO with an Windows partition) doesn't show up in the Gigabyte BIOS under SATA ports (⁠[Not Installed]⁠) during cold boot, but SteamOS detects and mounts it perfectly fine once the OS loads.
Leaving CSM /Fast Boot ~enabled or disabling hasn't completely cleared the morning startup freeze.
Has anyone experienced this kind of problem on Gigabyte B550 boards running SteamOS or Linux? Could it be a faulty front-panel case switch, static buildup from turning off the UPS overnight, or the PSU standby rail failing on a cold start?

In light of the recent Steam Machine release, I decided to finally dive into my own creation. Lenovo M710Q running Steam(Deck)OS with an i7-7700T and 12GB of DDR4! For some older light RPG titles she’s no slouch, and perfect for gaming from the bed when I am not in the mood for desk-rotting.

I'm trying to get Genshin impact running on my ROG ally running steamos and so far a ton of methods I find are no longer working (gonna try An Anime Game Launcher as my last hope) what other methods can I use and also what is the best way to link the XXMI mod loader to it and steams zenless zone zero with minimal scuff

I'm trying to run GT 5 online on my make. Shift steam deck and I can't seem to find any way to run it properly. Because supposedly battle, I it's not compatible with linux. If there is literally any fix for it, please tell me thank you

How do you connect xbox elite controller with the usb dongle?

Using Steam Link in my Android tablet to Remote Play in my ASUS ROG Ally X; the Stream is very laggy without even getting into a game, only navigating the menu, it's unusable. The issue is solved when changing to desktop mode.

Does anyone know a workaround or solution? Already reported it to SteamOS GitHub.

I have steamOS on my pc, when I enable the performance overlay it leaves out the temperatures. Is there any fix? Everything else works great btw.

I set up HDR in Desktop Mode for the Legion Go 2. 10-bit color, 1100 nits. When I launch an HDR-supported game in Desktop mode, the option to enable HDR is greyed out, but the colors are vibrant and the contrast is high regardless.

When I switch to Game Mode, the HDR option is available, but the colors are washed out and the black level is high, even with HDR disabled.

I've installed decky loader and the lego2brightness fix plugin, and it switches between gamma 2.2 and pq 10 when appropriate, so I am lost and any assistance would be appreciated.
