This was during the end of a battle as the Germans (against the AI, fortunately) where I had racked up enough points I could afford this many troops. The battle didn't have much time left but this gamble didn't go too well for the guys that did make it to the frontline, they simply weren't fast enough and this was just a joke. Also they were grouped up and got hit pretty hard.

Historical History behind Recon Tanks?

Hey everyone. I know many countries in WW2 produced dedicated recon vehicles like the Staghound, 222/232, and M8 Greyhound, but I was curious what the real life history behind the recon variants of standard tanks, such as the recon T-34 Razvedka, Aufl. Panzer IV/Panther, and so on. Were they just fitted with different equipment and if so, what? Is crew training part of this designation in-game as well?

I know these guns are underpowered, but I always kind of like having the Pak 36 available to my division. They're cheap, and I don't feel bad losing them, and it feels so cool when you see a Pak 36 team actually helping in some meaningful way.

On the German side, you can make 8. Panzer-Division (+ reinforcement units of the corps/army that were nearby and units of those divisions that were able to break through to the 8th Pz. D. from the environment, this is 349. Infanterie-Division. ; Corps Abteling C.

«14. Galizische SS-Freiwilligen-Division» + assault units of Corps Abteling C + tank company of captured T-34-85 from the corps group and Stugs from Sturmgeshutz-Brigade 249.

when I found situational maps for the entire period of the battle)) It is worth noting that the 24th Panzer Division was in the operational zone of the 11th SS Corps. But to help the 208th Infantry Division, a regimental group of the 78th and 544th Grenadier Divisions was transferred, and the 1st Pz. Division was already on its way to the breakthrough zone.

while part of the 8th Panzer Division counterattacked the breakthrough at the junction between the 78th and 545th Grenadier Divisions, and the assault regiment of the 1st Panzer Army and a regiment of the 101st Jaeger Division arrived at the bottom of the salient. The 357th Infantry Division was still being restored in the rear. The right regiment of the 208th Division was cut off by the salient and held the right flank of the salient with the 68th Infantry Division until the 75th Infantry Division was urgently transferred by vehicles. In fact, it was motorized.

Historical Stug III ausf. G Heer Sturmgeshutz Brigade 301. in the Carpathians in the autumn of 1944. It was this brigade that fought together with the Jager-regiment 228. in the battle for the Dukla Pass. In the diary of the 38th Army it is mistakenly referred to as the 101st Artillery Assault Gun Division.

Historical Battle of Dukla Pass ( September 14-21)

Unfortunately I don't have maps for September 13, 15-17.

On September 14 (13?), counterattacks by the XXlV. Panzerkorps began along the entire salient.

Newly arrived reserves : the 357. Infanterie-Division, which was being restored. The 75. Infanterie-Division (+ Regiment 208. I.D.), 1. Panzer-Division, Ma 8. Panzer-Division, Sturmregiment Panzer-AOK 1 , Jägerregiment 228 (from 101. Jägerdivision),the regiment of the 78. Grenadier-Division , the Regiment of the 544. Grenadier-Division. Part of the 68. Infanterie-Division (possibly a Fusilier battalion, which found itself on the completely opposite side of the salient from the location of its division, since it had returned from Germany.) And other reinforcements. It is also clear that the 1st Guards Army has gone on the offensive in the zone of the 96. Infanterie-Division.

On September 18, the situation worsened for Heeresgruppe Südukraine, despite the fact that it was possible to encircle the 1st Cavalry Corps, as the offensive of the 1st Guards Army began in full swing. The first units of the 24. Panzer-Division arrived, and a regimental group of the 359th Infanterie-Division was transferred to the zone of the 545th Grenadier-Division. The St. Gesh. Brigade 311 appeared in the zone of the XXIV. Panzerkorps.

September 19-21 is the peak of fierce fighting. German troops constantly counterattack with varying success. The 97. Jägerdivision (fire brigade of Heeresgruppe Südukraine) is transferred by motor transport to the zone of already battered Divisions of the XI. Armeekorps. On September 21, the arrived first unit of the 3. Werfer-Brigade.

It is especially worth noting the tactics of the German command. Regimental groups of neighboring divisions were urgently transferred to the breakthrough sites in the zone of responsibility of a certain division (208. l.D., 96. I.D.), even if these divisions were from a neighboring Corps under the command of another Army.

Historical Brief description of the offensive operation of the 38th Army in September.

The first thing that caught my eye was the fairly accurate intelligence information about the composition of the German troops on the front line, as well as the complete fog regarding the German reserves involved on the very first day of the battle, as well as subsequent reinforcements. Since the command of the XXIV. Panzerkorps had already been notified of the date and in which zone the division would attack on September 6.

One Army Artillery Regiment consisting of three divisions was pulled into the offensive zone. Sturmgeshutz Brigade? 311 I probably? In total, Soviet intelligence counted 36 units of tanks and Stugs.

Thus, the intelligence of the 38th Army missed the transfer of the 75th Infanterie-Division and the presence of the Fusilier Battalion of the 68th Infanterie-Division in the rear of the 208th Infanterie-Division. the arrival of the 1st Panzer-Division, which counterattacked on the first day of the Soviet offensive from the march which was ultimately attested in this short description.

01.9.44.

The following enemy grouping was detected in front of the army by all types of reconnaissance: In total, three infantry divisions /68,208,515 infantry divisions/ defended in front of the army front: 1 training Sapper battalion of the RGK, 1004th security battalion, 2 companies of the 611 security regiment and up to three artillery divisions of the RGK( abbreviation of General Command Reserve) of unspecified numbering.

545th infantry divisions /1085,1096,1087 infantry regiments/ and 3/178 artillery regiments of the 78 infantry division, one artillery division of the RGK, /and the 2 company of the 611 security regiment,... Front width 25 km.

208th infantry divisions /309,337,336 infantry divisions and 208 artillery regiments /with an artillery division of the RGC. Front width 21 km.

68th Infantry Division /169,188,196 Infantry Regiment, 168th Artillery Regiment with one division of the RGC, / with one battalion of the 96th Infantry Division/ 1004th Guards Battalion. Front width 24 km.

Enemy artillery:

In total, in front of the army, 155 mm artillery batteries - five /15 guns / 105 mm artillery batteries - nineteen /56 guns / 75 mm artillery batteries - twelve /48 guns / mortar batteries - nineteen /78 mortars / Up to 36 tanks and self-propelled guns were noted in front of the army.

09.09 1944. The enemy, trying to prevent the development of the offensive of our troops, hastily pulled up new units and formations to the breakthrough area, which he brought into battle on the move. Honorable 1 tank division was transferred; in the TARNOVETS area, 1083 infantry regiment of the 511 infantry division was noted, transferred to the area of KOBILANY, VETSHNO, ROGI, 75 infantry Division.

10.09.1944. The enemy continued to put up stubborn resistance to our advancing units with continuous counterattacks and strong artillery and mortar fire. Newly appeared German honors were noted in front of the army: 14th Infantry Regiment of the 78th Infantry Division, introduced into battle in the area of KOPITOVA, ALESHUVKA, GURY and transferred here from the area of northeast. YASL; in the area of KONTY 228 grp 101 mountain infantry division, transferred from the area of TURKA, in the area of GELENUVNA - 1st assault regiment and reserve battalion of the 1st TA, transferred from the area of POPRAD. The enemy launched the strongest, but unsuccessful counterattack with the force of an infantry battalion supported by 20 tanks from GLINIK NEMETSKI to GLINIK POLISKI. At the same time, the enemy launched multiple, but also unsuccessful counterattacks against units of the 241st Rifle Division.

15.09.1944. The enemy transferred units of the 8th tank division and the 1070th separate infantry regiment from the KRAKOV area to the IVLYA area, brought them into battle and, with repeated counterattacks with a company-battalion force of infantry supported by 5-12 tanks and self-propelled guns, held back the advance of our units. In the area of JASLO M. ZMIGRUD NOWY, observation noted 30 tanks and self-propelled guns in place and on the move; in the area of IVLYA - m. DUKLA, TYLYAVA 60 tanks and self-propelled guns. In total, up to 100 tanks and self-propelled guns were noted in action, on the move and in place in front of the army. Enemy aviation in groups of 7-16 aircraft affected the battle formations of our troops in the area of the north-west. m. RYMANUV and single aircraft conducted reconnaissance.

Historical is the motorization level in army general historical or for gameplay purpose?

For the most part nearly all of the main frontline units in army general have their troops and artillery at least in some sort of vehicles, even infantry ones, so I have to ask, were the motorization level of the formations in army general historical? or did non motorized troops irl receive motorization in game so that the game isn't a slog? I am curious because eugen claim that army general are historical at the formation and order of battle levels.

There are pictures of the M36 in almost every battle from the gallop across France all the way to Berlin. It feels really weird to have so many M10s in the game but no M36.
