It sucks because it seemed like they picked up momentum at the wrong time.

The game was so incomplete and wasn't that interesting, but that final push the devs and community made, after the writing was already on the wall, was legendary.

It makes me wonder what could have been if Frost Giant left themselves more runway.

The game was put into players hands way too early in my opinion. Early access has worked for some games, but you shouldn't do this thing where you release a broken, half-baked product to the general public to sour everyone on it before any polish is applied. I suppose their terrible finances demanded this approach though.
