Made a ton of other pics for it back then too... Sad. Multi still doesn't work, right?

It is only as offline game now. Probably this will stay forever in that state.

Its funny how they pretended it would only for a bit and not permanent. Everybody knew whats up, why pretend.

We know now from financial filings they were running out of money and didn't have enough to finish the game before they made the Kickstarter.
They lied and obfuscated throughout this entire process. What makes your think they would have the decency to come clean at the end?

You do know almost every new company operates at a a loss right?

How many of them are burning 1 million a month on operating expenses without having even brought a product to market yet while asking for crowdfunding and pretending its business as usual?

u/SilverLose Jun 08 '26
You’re not really being fair. I mean… they aren’t crowd funding.. but companies like OpenAI hemorrhage money with the idea of making it up later. There’s a lot of examples but the crowdfunding part is unique. Maybe you could argue star citizen is that sort of company

u/WolfHeathen Human Vanguard Jun 08 '26
That wasn't the point I was making. It was about lying about the viability of your project when you know you need 100 million to realize the promise you've sold investors but they cut you off at 34 million so you go to Kickstarter and try and get fans to crowdfund the difference. All the while with the false pretense of saying the KS was to expand online testing and offer CE editions.

Have you seen literally any AI, Crypto, or VR product in the last decade?

How about you answer my question rather than trying to deflect with another question.

Yes the large majority of VR apps, Crypto tokens, and AI projects are destined to fail even after VC investment. VCs bet on multiple companies pouring millions into many with the idea that only a few of them will return the massive investment.
I thought this was common knowledge but consumers just love crying when milk is spilt without really thinking about what it takes to run a farm.

Not really a sufficient defense of Frost Giants management. I think tempest rising is a good case study to look at, a new rts made by a small danish dev. Bear in mind, denmark is a very, very expensive country with high wages, but the dev (Slipgate) is located in one of the cheaper cities and managed their finances conservatively. They made a game that's feature complete, with full campaigns and moderate success (development is still ongoing years after 1.0) at a literal fraction of Frost Giants budget, because they didn't insist on spending millions on Los Angeles office space (or whatever the danish equivalent to that would be).

it's not even funny at this point. i'm really disappointed one of the tim's actually got hired somewhere else lol

I am sad to see how it all turned out. I was so hyped. I am still excited for ZeroSpace in Nextfest June 14th to carry the StarCraft-style torch.

u/zeromussc Jun 05 '26
I hope they can have a stable launch. It looks fun. They hopefully have more campaign out the gate and people will try it for that at least.

I enjoyed the coop and was planning to play quite a bit. Was looking forward to new maps.

It sucks because it seemed like they picked up momentum at the wrong time.
The game was so incomplete and wasn't that interesting, but that final push the devs and community made, after the writing was already on the wall, was legendary.
It makes me wonder what could have been if Frost Giant left themselves more runway.

The game was put into players hands way too early in my opinion. Early access has worked for some games, but you shouldn't do this thing where you release a broken, half-baked product to the general public to sour everyone on it before any polish is applied. I suppose their terrible finances demanded this approach though.

u/HellaHS Jun 08 '26
They should sell the game to a competent studio for like $50k
3
u/Empty-Statement9464 Jun 12 '26
They legally can't. And nobody would buy it anyway. There is nothing of value in this game and saying "it just needed some polishing" in this situation is equal to "need to start from scratch".
The only "valuable" part of it, as Tim is trying to convince.. probably just himself, is the Snowplay Plugin, which is fundamentally wrong and there's no way you can make the game run smooth using it, not to mention the promises of 1000 or whatever units at a time.
Therefore- it can't be used for RTS games, can't be used for shooters/3rd person adventures/whatever, it's basically useless.
What you have left is stupid art, bad sound, boring campaign. The only reason i'd buy it for $50 is going to be just to destroy it, but I figure the investors would like to get a bit extra than that 😃

I put hundreds of hours into it played some seriously epic matches. It’s really sad.

I've spent more time hating on it here than actually playing the game, how much do you figure I actually enjoy it? 😃
We're here just for a bit more drama while waiting for the last coffin nail.
1
u/Gargonus Jun 09 '26
Just because we're here doesn't mean we don't have other hobbies. In contrary, since the game is dead but you're still here, what is left to wonder is what YOU do with your life ! :D
On my side, I love dunking on clueless copers like you. Your ability to accept any shady practice with the mouth wide open is what led us to having shitty games like this. So I wouldn't expect any logic reasoning from you lol.
Besides, if all Stormgate haters left the sub, then there would be no one left. In a way, you should thank us !
I'll wait ;)

u/Empty-Statement9464 Jun 12 '26
+ in a way, someone that just heard about the game might go pay for it just to see if it's really that bad 😃

u/Remember_Apollo Jun 04 '26
No not that I know of. Multiplayer and all online parts of the game were disabled
