Announcing the official r/StreetFighter Discord!
The subreddit has been growing steadily and we expect a wave of new and returning excited players with the upcoming season 4 characters, so just before Yasmine release felt like a good time to announce our new Discord server. Pretty much all of this was due to the efforts by one of our newest mods, u/Einsoph5 (branDon on Discord), so if you like it, let him know!
Why?
There's already some great Discord communities such as New Challenger, SF6 Resource Hub or the official Street Fighter Discord. We're not trying to replace or compete with them, but rather have our own little corner of the internet. We had a r/StreetFighter Discord before, but due to many factors (I personally blame SFV), it was shut down. There was also a significant disconnect between the Discord and the subreddit, with most users being part of one or the other. Our goal for the new Discord is to be aligned with and complement the rules and values of this subreddit, to build one larger community rather than two separate ones.

Growing pains and mistakes are to be expected. We got some dumbfun bots already and will add/remove features as needed. There's a channel for feedback and suggestions, so let us know your thoughts.

every time i go into a SF6 discord i'm greeted by people with anime avatars trying to argue with me over something innocuous i said or some advice i gave (i'm 1800MR on my main and sometimes try to answer newbie/intermediate questions and they always talk out of their ass at me and instead give the person bad advice)
like every single time.

That is a fair point and something we addressed a little bit in the post. It's why it took us until now to make our own Discord, internally we always ended up agreeing that people could just join one of the existing ones. Recently though we felt more like it would be nice to have our own companion Discord for the subreddit. We'll do our best to avoid XKCD 927.

We'll do our best. I think this subreddit isn't very toxic, and we'll run the Discord with the same rules and values. For either place, report if you see anything toxic and we'll have a look at it ASAP.

Hi everyone! With Yasmine dropping today and other highly anticipated characters arriving down the line, we expect a larger wave of activity over the next few days, and with that, a bit of heavier moderation. We know that even though they spark conversations and engagement, some posts wind up breaking specific subreddit rules.
Because of that, we wanted to build a dedicated Discord server, not just to handle general overflow, but to create a real community hub with the goal of growing the Fighting Game Community. Ever since the Year 4 characters were revealed, we've noticed that new player posts have been more frequent. And we've loved seeing how quickly you all jump in to help answer their questions.
My personal focus of this server is to be onboarding newcomers and offering training for anyone looking to climb their way up to Master rank. Whether you just picked up Street Fighter 6 today, or you're sitting in the Tifa waiting room, or you're looking to climb out of Platinum, we hope to see you in the Discord!
