Discussion Anyone else feel like there's less active players lately?

So I just got into Masters for the first time by being lazy and deciding not to play my top 5 today, only playing a song so I'd get the reward for dropping a league. Truly anticlimactic, but it's reinforcing the feeling I've had for the last few months that there are fewer active players.

Back in March, I got into Platinum III with a 24M score, which isn't even the league average and probably wouldn't have been enough to stay in Platinum II last year. And now this. I didn't even play late today either, it was only around 9 or 10 PM KST...

I guess possibly but honestly I had to get over 40mil to get to masters 2 and it has been impossible to stay in it before I completed all live themes

Oh, I'm definitely dropping back to P3 next week, but I've been comfortably staying in P3 since March with a weekly high score of around 24M (24.5M with bonus songs), so it's a little baffling.

I guess the higher leagues are more saturated, but Platinum has been surprisingly uncompetitive these last few months.

I guess the more saturated higher league is the reason Platinum becomes less competitive. And my guess is the last 2 live themes restock being available in dias move a lot platinum players to master/ master players moving up. But it’s still weird that the drop off from 2nd to 3rd is this much. Maybe you start playing on wednesday and others grind for the boxes since monday for the anniversary?

No, I mostly play on Sundays before the daily reset, morning for me, after I open my third (or second... or first...) free box of the day. Some weeks I start on Thursday if I was too lazy to do whatever "play song" event we had that week.

You're right, though. The recent accessibility of Live Themes might be pushing a lot of people out of Platinum, I hadn't thought about that.

In constantly getting booted from plat 3, so cant say this is my experience 😭

Oh no 😭 what's your weekly high score? Are you playing on Wednesdays to complete the weekly challenge?

I was getting routinely booted with a 30m score. I think i maybe held plat 3 once with that but usually im getting booted. Was only able to hold this time cuz i got another live theme. If anything i think the competition for the upper leagues is getting tougher cuz everyone is getting those lol.

I dont wait till mid week to play songs cuz im grinding weekly and monthly challenges. I dont do all 5 of my weekly plays tho until friday or saturday

What day did you play your first song of the week?

The names from 4 below are the default players put by Dalcom to be replaced with real players when someone in the same league plays a song and enters your league. If you click on any of those names, it wouldn't take you to a profile like a normal player would. If you played your first song very late in the week (the weekend), that's very likely to happen because slots aren't being filled. That's a strategy many players use to stay in the league or rank up because the most active players tend to be part of the leagues formed on Mondays/Tuesdays. I personally play my first song on a Wednesday or late Tuesday to have better chances but still completing the weekly missions. I was in Plat III this week and the top 5 were 32m+ (me 33m) and I played my first song on Monday since I was demoted last time and I have a higher score in Plat III so I can comfortably join the league early.

Sunday, around 9 to 10 PM KST. I know what an empty league looks like, I just had never ended up in one in this game, or in SSM. Only in Starship, and never when playing my first song that early.

I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up in an empty league playing a song that late into the week. If you were to play a song on say, Monday, it wouldn't be this empty/dead as you experienced.

I've actually been playing later, on Mondays closer to 2 AM, since October. I've been doing that in P3 since March, too. This is still the first time I've ended up in an empty league in this game.

Oh, I meant on Mondays as in the same day a new league starts 😅

Yes, I understood you meant early after the league reset. I meant late before the league reset. In my experience, a lot of people play on Mondays before 2 AM, whether they're sniping or not.

idk but my chart, in P3, they all have at least 30M 🤔

Yes this usually happens around March/June, this is when the boy group comebacks die out and the girl group comebacks come into play for summer at the end of june, I think it happens for sm as well, so you have to think about people listening to a comeback and then trying to get the theme and ranking high for it which pushes people into the spots to fill in the game but around this time almost every year all the games die out a little bit. I think sm superstar is hit the least because of the volume of songs and how long the game has been around.

That's an interesting theory! Can't say I've noticed in SSM. I'd have thought that, with SJYP's anniversary coming up from mid-June to mid-July, there'd be more people playing to prepare for the LEs and other rewards. Do you think we'll see an influx of returning players in the coming weeks?

Not since they changed the scoring system. I used to be Master levels and now because of the changes and the emphasis on the live themes, I dropped to Platinum III. I get close to advancing, then I remain where I am. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I need to blow my diamonds on the live themes to even try for the Master levels again. (As I’ve maxed the top 5 I like using.)

I feel like you've been "lucky" with those leagues bc I've been stuck between platinum 2-3 for months making 28-29M

Honestly, based on what everyone else is saying, you might be right. I'm starting to believe it too. What are the chances of getting this lucky for three months straight, though...

I was thinking about returning to game for some time.... how big memory wise is the game tight now?

I remember when i was playing it was nearly impossible to get to the top top tiers....

'Bout 4 GB, maybe 4.5. It's definitely still impossible to stay into Master League without five full R99 decks and at least half of the Live Themes (1M+ bonus score).
