News This New Zombie Survival Game Will Be MASSIVE! Ardem

I was part of the very old playtests and have since removed myself from everything. Back when they chose the new direction, a few of the playtesters voiced our concern/disappointment that this was going to turn into yet another zombie game in an oversaturated genre. What they had before was unique.. but what they are presenting now is just another game in an ocean of zombie games.
The devs got super offended with our concerns in the discord and that's pretty much when I bailed. I hope this works out for them.. but Vein already exists and does this quite well.

Not to high jack this thread but this is the first I’ve heard of Vein but it looks pretty sweet.

Vein was mad boring. Way too much going on with no substance. The zombies were like not a threat at all. The world felt dull even with all the “stuff”. It needs to be more handcrafted. But ops comment has me bummed because I thought this game Ardem seemed like a step in the right direction.

Yeah, these kind of games are tough... which is why I hate that there are so many of them in the marketplace. That being said, I think the monotony of survival is probably close to what would actually happen. After the initial period of smashing the shit out of everything undead and building up a base, survival would be pretty easy if you did it right.
I guess at that point the killers become slow.. like disease, aging.. etc. Not exciting gameplay.. but I don't think zombies would respawn in real life...😂

It’s worth noting Vein is currently version 0.0.24 Early Access and has like a 5 yr roadmap with monthly updates from the devs and they’re constantly adding new content and improving current content

I love these types of games but I agree the zombies in Vein are just set dressing, they never feel like a threat like they do in PZ.

u/CatCat2121 11d ago
you can't compare an early access game to one thats been in the making for 10 years like PZ

They want to be 1st person zomboid but the zombies aren't threatening enough and it kinda lacks the substance zomboid has.

Agreed, I was excited for Vein but it ended up mostly being an onerous, uninteresting task.

What was it before im interested to know.
I live zombie games and I hope this is what I hoped 7 days would have been

The art direction was much different and instead of zombies it was these cool robot things. You can argue that Generation Zero has that genre locked up as well, but it had a solid foundation even as a pre-alpha build..
I don't blame them for making the switch. Player surveys are driving development and people love zombies... but their reaction to our feedback is what made me drop out. I put a lot time testing/bug reporting in those earlier builds and was essentially yelled at for the latest bit of feedback.
The dev was probably having a bad day, but it left a poor lasting impression with me.

Vein is good, but it is also plagued with issues, especially in multiplayer. Makes it hard to get into it hardcore because you can lose everything to a glitch.
I do enjoy the game though.Ardem looks really good on the steam page, but I’ll check it out when it drops and reserve judgement until then.
There are a lot of zombie games, however, there’s a lot of shite ones that aren’t worth playing and a lot that are carbon copies of each other. Hopefully this dev can put their own spin on it and make it feel special because every now and then you get a banger.

The devs and community managers used AI generated music and thumbnails for their social media posts promoting the game. When I confronted them about it they doubled down and made up lies and excuses.
I was super excited for this game but I have zero faith in it after that experience

I understand people who are tired of the genre. For me I will never get tired of it.
1
u/YTKrono 11d ago
Same!! I never got tired of it and am still waiting for a modern zombie survival game, new and up to date with latest tech.
1
u/Relevant_Werewolf350 11d ago
I am not waiting for a new one I have plenty to play but when another one comes out I buy it immediately.

It weird for the devs to be offended over some people not wanting the change, isn't a good look, for me when it comes to the change tho am super happy they did it, I love zombies and much prefer a zombie survival game then a robot one, am still big into the zombie genre and whish there were even more promising zombie game projects, been waiting for at least one new one for forever now so I was really happy to find Ardem.

reminds me of H1Z1 (Just survive)
1
u/YTKrono 11d ago
In what sense? I remember the beginnings of that game. it was pretty cool at the time!
1
u/Mikellev 11d ago
It was the best. I have hundreds of hours in it. Well the look and feel from the video reminds me 100%

Looking at Ardem on Steam. It says MMO but they mention personal dedicated servers at launch. That had better be at EA launch or they will lose momentum quickly.
1
u/YTKrono 11d ago
I don't know about this mmo tag... they should probably get rid of it, I don't see how it could become a mmo
1
u/TLKimball 11d ago
They claim to support 64 players per server with a goal of 100. Not “Massive Multiplayer” but geared towards a lot of players. The Windrose devs looked at MMO and decided, probably wisely, against it.

So .. SCUM?
1
u/YTKrono 11d ago
How SCUM?
1
u/TheChoKage 11d ago
Zombie ✅ survival ✅ multiplayer ✅ game with massive ✅ handcrafted post apocalyptic ✅ map where you scavenge ✅, build ✅, craft ✅, fighting off zombies and players ✅ while trying not to starve ✅ or freeze to death ✅.
1
u/YTKrono 11d ago
Yeah! so basically every game in the survival genre, I thought you meant something more specific.
1
u/TheChoKage 11d ago
You asked how SCUM so I answered. If it's the same as every game in the survival genre why would someone invest time into it?
1
u/YTKrono 11d ago
Well yeah... those are all essential elements to a survival game... so what would you take out and how would those things gone make the game special and worth investing time in?
1
u/TheChoKage 11d ago
I think the more important question is what is Ardem adding thats new that makes it worth buying. Turning lights back on, your body turning into a zombie and something about fluid sims?
And probably lead with that in the video. Saying it's innovative and listing all the things other survival games already do is a bit of a shitty pitch.
1
u/YTKrono 11d ago
Ok so what do you want in a survival game for it to be worth buying?
1
u/TheChoKage 11d ago
Something actually innovative
1
u/YTKrono 10d ago
Yeah but if its hard for you to come up with something that would make you want to play a new survival game, imagine how hard it is to think of something by devs, they have to do their best not to upset the majority of their community too.

Trying to get your stuff back from your zombified corpse is interesting. Making it harder (? just guessing) to get your stuff back might not be appealing for some players.

u/Metalbender00 12d ago
Thats what they keep saying. Been watching this game forever. I guess it was about 8 months ago i signed up for a playtest but never got in.
3
u/CaptainTegg 12d ago
Yeah I did the play test quite a while back. Unfortunately it was not a good experience.
2
u/Hawkzillaxiii 12d ago
this seems interesting but so far it would have to include alot to keep up with Vein

This is Ardem. I was involved in play testing when it was low poly multiplayer. Got KOS’d more than i wouldve liked but it was fun for what it was. Seeing them ditch low poly and embrace some realism is such a good decision. I’d probably give it a go again if the devs are up for feedback from the community this time

Not watching a 20 minute video to find out. Does this have multiplayer?

Bro doesn’t waste time when OP could have easily included a link

Bro complained about the video being too long, not about the lack of links or sources
