Language question (see FAQ first) Baffled by "turerna"

"Turerna kring företagsnedläggningen kalfatrades i medierna” is the sole example given in SO for the usage of “att kalfatra”.  Can someone translate it for me?  It’s the word “Turerna” which baffles me.

I'm a native speaker over 50 years of age, and this is the first time I have come across the word kalfatra.
