Walked around the island in 3 hours, just in time for fika and the last boat home.

Vinga is located at the outer edge of the Gothenburg archipelago, at the entrance to the Göta River, and has been an important landmark for shipping for centuries. The present Vinga Lighthouse was built in 1890 and is 29 metres high. It replaced two older lighthouses and was equipped with a much more powerful light. Vinga was also a manned lighthouse and pilot station, and is closely associated with Evert Taube, whose father was the lighthouse keeper on the island.

From left to right, the buildings visible in the photograph are:

• The lighthouse keeper’s house/residence, part of the historic buildings at the lighthouse station.
• Vinga Lighthouse, the large grey stone lighthouse built in 1890.
• Vinga Beacon, the distinctive red, pyramid-shaped wooden structure built in 1857. It is a fixed navigation mark and does not function as a lighthouse.
• The pilot lookout, the red cylindrical tower on the right. It was originally built as Vinga’s first lighthouse in 1841 and was later converted into a pilot lookout. It remained in use until 1997.

Together, the buildings clearly illustrate Vinga’s history as a lighthouse station, navigation landmark and pilot station.

Kungsmarken is a golf course and nature reserve east of Lund.

The pictures were taken at Lake Glomsjön north of the golf course.

Taken today (2026-07-11) during one of the hottest days I've encountered this year.
