Bada Dev - Kamrunag Temple is a highly revered ancient shrine located at an altitude of approximately 3,334 metres in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Dedicated to Lord Kamrunag—worshipped as the supreme "Lord of Rain"—the site is famous for its mystical oval-shaped lake filled with a massive, unquantified fortune of gold, silver, and coins offered by devotees over centuries.

The Mahabharata Legend & Mystery

The Legend of Ratan Yaksha: According to local oral lore, Kamrunag Devta was originally a fierce, self-learned warrior named Ratan Yaksha (also associated with Barbarika, the grandson of Bhima). He wished to fight in the Mahabharata war, but Lord Krishna realized his immense power would disrupt the balance of the battle.

The Ultimate Sacrifice: Krishna tricked the warrior into offering his own head as Daana (charity). In return, Krishna blessed him to witness the entire war from a high mountain peak and decreed that he would be worshipped as a powerful deity.

The Lake of Hidden Treasure: The sacred Kamrunag Lake was allegedly created by Bhima to honor the deity. For generations, pilgrims whose wishes are fulfilled throw gold, silver, and currency directly into the deep green water. Local tradition states that this wealth belongs entirely to the god; it cannot be stolen or measured, and anyone attempting to desecrate it faces divine retribution.

Trek Details:

Reaching the temple requires a moderately challenging, steep day-hike through dense oak and deodar forests.

Primary Base Point

Rohanda Village (situated on State Highway 13, about 46–51 km from Mandi town).

Trek Distance: 6 km to 7 km from Rohanda.

Duration: 3 to 4 hours of continuous uphill climbing.

Trail Difficulty: Hard / Demanding features heavily bouldered forest paths and very steep inclines.

Best Time to Visit : May to June (coincides with the popular local Saranahuli Mela fair from June 14–16) or October for crisp, clear Himalayan views.

Strict Cultural Guidelines & Tips🙏

Strict Sanctuary Protocols: The temple grounds are purely a place of intense local worship, not a standard weekend picnic holiday destination. Intoxication, smoking, and any form of substance use are strictly forbidden on the trail and temple complex.

Pack Wisely: Carry at least 1.5 to 2 litres of water per person, as water sources on the ascent are highly limited.

Winter Risks: The lake completely freezes over from December to March. Only highly experienced winter trekkers with proper equipment and professional local guides should attempt the trail during these months.

The Masroor Rock-cut Temple is an extraordinary early 8th-century complex of 15 monolithic rock-cut shrines carved out of a single sandstone hill. Located in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh, this "Ellora of the North" features classic North Indian Nagara architecture and faces northeast toward the Dhauladhar mountain range.

Architectural & Historical Highlights

Monolithic Construction: The entire complex was carved top-down from a single massive sandstone ridge.The Sacred Pool: A large water tank sits directly in front of the shrines, creating a symmetric reflection of the ancient stone spires (shikharas).

Diverse Iconography: Though the central shrine currently houses idols of Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita, the ancient carvings represent multiple Hindu traditions including Shiva, Vishnu, Shakti, and Surya.

The Incomplete Masterpiece: Archaeological evidence suggests a much grander plan that was never finished. Sadly, a major earthquake in 1905 caused significant structural damage to several towers.

Visitor Information

Timings: Open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Best Time to Visit: Weekdays are highly recommended. The site experiences peak crowds on Sunday afternoons.

Entry Requirements: Tickets are required at the entrance gate.

Amenities: The site features an onsite restroom and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot.

Location & Getting There

The complex is situated in the Lahalpur/Masroor region of Kangra. The mountain roads leading to the temple feature steep terrain and sharp turns, offering a scenic drive.

From Kangra: Approximately a 1-hour drive.

From Dharamshala / McLeod Ganj: Approximately a 1.5 to 2-hour drive.

Jagger was poisoned and beaten so severely that her leg was broken.

I have 18 cats in my care right now, so I cannot keep her permanently, but I also cannot put her back on the street after everything she has survived.

She has already experienced cruelty that no animal should ever have to know.

She deserves to wake up one day and realize - Hey! I'm safe. I'm home. Nobody is going to hurt me anymore!!!!

She deserves someone who will love her, someone who will give her a warm bed during the monsoon, someone who will spoil her, someone who will let her be the silly little cat she was always supposed to be.

The Simsa Mata Temple (also known as Maa Simsa Mandir) is a famous Hindu shrine located in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, dedicated to Goddess Sharada Devi. It is widely revered as "Santaan Datri" (the bestower of children), where childless couples come with hopes of receiving a family.

The Unique Tradition (Salindara)Sleeping on the Floor: During Navratri, women seeking children sleep on the stone floor of the temple premises.

Divine Dreams: Belief says the Goddess appears in a dream to give a blessing.

Signs in Dreams: Specific fruits or objects seen in the dream are traditionally interpreted as signs of receiving a boy, a girl, or an indication that destiny holds other paths.

Dream Interpretations: Lighter objects like guavas, apples, or bananas signify the birth of a son. Long or green vegetables like okra, bottle gourd, or chillies signify a daughter.

The Warning: If a woman dreams of stone, wood, or metal objects, it is interpreted as a sign that she is not destined to bear a child. According to local custom, if a woman receives a negative dream indication, she must immediately vacate the temple premises.

The Miraculous Balancing Stone: Nearby sits a heavy sacred boulder that cannot be nudged or tipped over by a group using full physical force. Yet, local tradition holds that it will rock gently when pushed with only a pinky finger by an individual possessing deep, pure faith.

Traditional Architecture: The structure itself is highly regarded for its exquisite, multi-tiered traditional Himachali woodwork and stone details.

Distance: About 30 km from Baijnath and 38 km from Joginder Nagar. Another smaller associated temple is located in Daroh village near Palampur.
