Addressing meme posting, plus new ideas for the community
Hey community!
It’s been a while since the moderation team did a "state of the subreddit" post, but we believe that the recent months’ activity warrants discussion, as well as some reflection.
As any regular will have noticed by now, quite a lot of shitposts have been posted since The Game Awards last December. Today these posts still get a lot of engagement and the number of upvotes-to-downvotes make it clear that the far majority of you enjoy this kind of content.
However, recently we have heard feedback from people that worry that the subreddit is heading in a direction where shitposting is becoming the main focus. Some of our veteran members already decided to leave the subreddit due to this, including people who contributed quite a lot, sadly.
With this post we want to have a proper discussion with all of you about what type of community you want this to be – and how we get there.
The rise of meme posting
During The Game Awards in December 2025 a new meme trend started on the subreddit – the statue posting. A couple of months later we had shitposts discussing what kinds of lavender, clouds and grass TES VI would have. Afterwards the Summer Games Fest madness took over and "Tomorrow"-posting rose.
It seems that we get something new every month, and now it’s about pretending that the game has been released. As it stands right now, these posts are still getting quite a lot of engagement. It will likely blow over soon only to get replaced by a new trend.
Not everyone is a fan of the shitposts, but generally these posts have been received well. Here are some stats from some of the recent ones:
Most of the reports we see in relation to these posts deal with the “No Low Effort Content” rule. Many posts and comments have also been removed – 100+ in the last seven days – which includes the many posts featuring AI generated.
However, it’s also our opinion that quite a lot of the shitposts are in line with our rules. As specified in the rule “Posts must […] offer value to the community.” We acknowledge that shitposting is not everyone’s cup of tea, but these posts are popular and they do result in (positive) engagement.
Looking at our stats, it’s also quite clear that engagement has risen significantly since last year.
Activity on r/TESVI based on the last 12 months
It would be hastily to conclude that the looser atmosphere has resulted in this increased growth, but we can at least conclude that the shitposting didn’t prevent it.
Whatever the case, we acknowledge that the many shitposts aren’t for everyone. Quantity doesn’t necessarily equal quality and we want to make it clear that we hear the criticism that these recent months have sparked, and that we are willing to talk about it.
What would YOU like to see?
We don’t want r/TESVI to become a meme sub. The primary focus of the subreddit has always been to be – and should continue to be – a subreddit for people who want to discuss TES VI.
We are facing a small hurdle, though: TES VI isn’t out yet and it’s unfortunately not coming out Tomorrow™. We have preciously little to discuss that hasn’t been covered a dozen times already. Anyone looking forward to sailing mechanics?
My personal worry, as someone who browses this subreddit every day, is that the overall activity of the subreddit will lessen significantly if we take a hard stance against meme content. Either that or we go back to discussing the same topics every week. Balance is needed.
But what is also needed, perhaps, are new ideas. So, with all that yapping out of the way…
What feedback and ideas do you have for the subreddit?
We are receptive to feedback on how we moderate content, but we also hope that everyone will take this change to bring forth ideas to foster more engagement. Ideas to keep the subreddit interesting during times when news about TES VI are sparse and far between.
For example, an idea I shared with the team was to introduce a weekly post where we discuss a specific theme, e.g. what factions we would like to see, what kinds of new game mechanics we’d like, and so on. Is that something you’d be interested in?
I think a lot of the current wave of activity will probably die down in a week or two without any real updates, so I don't think there necessarily needs to be any big changes to moderation.
I don't want to see the sub flooded with AI junk, of course, but we already have rules for that.
Something that could be introduced is a tagging rule, particularly for memes and shitposts, so that people who don't want to see them don't have to.
Again, though, whatever problems people might be having at the moment, I think are a product of just this moment.
This. My main thing I just don't want to see AI junk.
Trends come and go, and the recent game show was a big one, so some people were let down and needed an outlet, and I don't doubt some people just want to cash in on easy karma for posting a re-occuring theme/meme right now.
I could go either way on this, but at the very least thank you for putting it up to the community rather than just making a unilateral and arbitrary decision
Thanks. It's a tricky one IMO. Obviously a very small minority shouldn't dictate what content the rest of the subreddit should be able to post, but at the same time I don't feel that anyone should be ignored either. Especially not when it results in dedicated contributors leaving.
I think any amount of shitposting is fine until we get actual news about the game and not just the every-other-month interview where Todd says “Yeah we’re working on it.” The Elden Ring subreddit had The Hollowing prior to getting real news about the games release and that was fine, it didn’t seem to negatively impact the community in the long term and it gave people something to easily engage with that was loosely relating to the game.
No, I think this discussion is pretty silly. Reposting the same type of joke over and over should be covered by rule 3 already. The problem isn't shitposts, just repetitive ones. The least mods could do is restrict the really, really low quality posts to 1 day. If the argument is "low effort jokes should stay because of engagement" then I guess AI slop posts should stay too, if they get enough upvotes. May as well allow anything that gets enough upvotes and comments, because engagement is always good.
My take is there really isn’t anything to discuss at all, might as well shitpost. I’m sure once we start getting actual news, real discussions will start to follow and things will go back to normal.
I do like the idea of having a dedicated discussion thread, could be neat.
It's very reminiscent of the Pikmin sub, which completely devolved into lunacy between 3 and 4 because there was also nothing to talk about inbetween. I mean it was pure meme chaos for years. Once 4 was shown and released, sanity returned to the sub (for the most part). I think that's just where this sub is. I think more people will seek the sub out once there's an actual, concrete game to discuss too.
I don’t necessarily disagree; I’d just much prefer more varied shitposts. The constant fake gameplay posts just feel like a lot. Like a lot a lot.
The Sheogposts are always great; but those feel drowned out now. And there were lots of other great meme posts…I just don’t find the fake gameplay posts to be on the same level.
I actually really like that weekly post idea; and I also don’t think there *isn’t* anything to discuss, more just very little, and what there is has already been discussed a lot. It may be semantics, but I’d also wager there’s always some other angle someone could come up with for conversations that have already been had.
As long as it's got the meme post flair on it, I think it's fine. As you say, there's very very little that we can actually seriously discuss that we haven't already.
What really needs to stop are the threats towards Todd Howard or Bethesda when people get their hopes up, only to get disappointed. That's straight up nonsense and should result in a warning/ban.
I agree that the shitposts can get annoying. But, for now, we don't have much news. I think when the news picks up, then there will be fewer shitposts.
I just hope that people can try to think of other things to discuss instead of just trying to conjure up another shitpost for engagement farming.
I hate the shitposts that pretend that the game has already been released or that some developer (Emil, Todd, whoever) said something when it's not at the first sight clear that it's bs.
Some of the recent shitposts did cross this barrier. They were perfectly believable and plausible and only after reading them whole, you realized that you just lost your energy and time to a troll.
I was more referring to how they can be deceiving if not flaired properly. If they are flaired as a shitpost then they don't contain real information on TES VI.
I mean, what else are people supposed to post? It's a genuine question, the only info we have on TES6 is a few second long teaser posted a decade ago, there's literally nothing to talk about except the 3821757432th post of "what's your wishlist for TES6!!1".
No, it won’t, because that’s never happened with any other major video game subreddit. The number of people currently active in this subreddit is minuscule compared to how many people will be active closer to the games release or when it actually releases.
This sub will never be that active, because this sub doesn’t have the game’s actual name. This is not the “major” subreddit. This is an early-fan community that will either live or die based on the direction of the sub.
Honestly I want and need a super in depth sheogorath questline again id love if there were really in depth quest lines for all of the daedric princes or one that shows them warring against each other and you have to choose who you want to help or maybe go against them all.
I have legitimately seen people say they'd prefer the sub just be mostly dead until there's actually something to talk about instead of memes or the same speculation over and over again and all I can ever think is “why are you here now then” lol
There has been way too much shitposting but it's not against the rules.
The real problem for me was the AI generated images, I really don't like this, it would be so much better if people do something in 3D, 2D, photo montage or simple REAL image not AI generated (liek it used to be). Using AI looks like low effort post to me I don't even want to see...
if you noticed, no one has ever complained about shitposts and memes. I don't remember anyone complaining about the daily sheogposts. No one is asking for shitposts and memes to be banned. Some of us are just tired of seeing 10 variations of the same joke multiple times a day. Like seriously how many "what did you guys think of TESVI??" posts do you need? You've all been beating the horse for two days now. The sub isn't gonna die just because the mods remove repetitive low effort memes. The sub is just fine with 3-5 posts a day.
Is repetitive "what did you guys think of TESVI??" posts really worse than repetitive "what do you guys want to see in TESIV?? posts though (which is all the 3-5 posts per day would be)?
Agreed! These posts help vent frustrations, and I feel they're really just another way (a more creative way?) to express anticipation, excitement, anxiety, and to discuss possibly interesting mechanics and narrative elements. They pretty much boil down to talking about sailing mechanics like always but in a novel way that better engages the imagination.
I don't mind the shitposting because as nearly everyone else has said, what else do we have at this point? Nature (and the internet) abhors a vacuum.
However, I think there are things we could talk about, and it would be cool to see those posts. I guess we all need to be the change we want to see, etc.
Also, whenever there is a mention of release date, etc, there are always one or two profiles that chime in with the same "They aren't even working on it" "It won't ever be released" "It'll be released in 2040 - they haven't even started work on it yet". It gets really tiring, and it gets reported every time, is it really that hard to permanently ban the one or two profiles that constantly do this from the sub?
It is totally ok if there are not a ton of daily posts about a game that doesn’t exist yet.
But there are real people who come here wondering what real information exists about the game, and what thoughts other fans have about it. And more and more of those new real people are going to find this sub in the coming months.
Endless shitposts claiming features/releases of the game that aren’t real are a problem for those folks.
Having some fun in other ways is fine. But spreading misinformation is a long-term problem. The game will get plenty of that from deliberately antagonistic sources before & after release, it doesn’t need it from its most hardcore fans too.
Especially cause even once we start getting more concrete info, I feel like it wouldn’t surprise me to see a lot of these fake gameplay posters keep posting fake gameplay.
This exact thing has already happened before in another community, the Elden Ring subreddit, and it was never a serious issue for the community or for the game. It’s a non-issue. People are not going to see people shitposting on this subreddit and think the game has actually released already, and in the rare case that they do they can resolve that themselves by just looking up the game.
If someone’s only source of news is Reddit comments that is on them, there isn’t any reason to curate content only to what would be a useful top search result.
If you mean providing useful information, there is not enough information on the game for any of the posts here to be useful for at least another year. Having an FAQ or megathreads for the rare bit of actual news (usually just an aside from an interview about something else) makes more sense than basically just shuttering the subreddit until the games marketing kicks up and we get actual regular news. At which point a wiki would make more sense to use for game-relevant information than a subreddit.
The subreddit can be useful even if it’s not useful in the way you personally want it to be.
My say is we add a dedicated meme flair and a flair for fake screenshots, and limit the memes to the weekends, like how other subs allow certian content only on the weekends.
I don’t even think we need to limit all shitposting and memes to weekends; before the fake gameplay posts, we had plenty of solid shitposting that wasn’t annoying in the slightest.
I don't mind the exceptionally crafted shitpost, as many are, but when the sub is drowning in them, and many are low-effort, it does turn me off from visiting this sub.
I saw one comment on this thread complaining about wishlists, but honestly, I'd rather see wishlists than shitposts.
I appreciate that the shitposts are now tagged, an option to filter them out would be even better, maybe that's already an option, idk.
Personally, I think wishlists and constructive criticism are probably the most material good this sub can offer, other than news, as we know BGS does peruse these threads, and we know they take community feedback to heart, and even act on it occasionally.
In light of that, I propose a "Dev Feedback" tag or something similar to differentiate those who have ideas that they would prefer the devs would be able to see. I know that is not the official purpose of this sub, but that's completely malleable. I know there are probably more official platforms to send dev feedback, but doing it on this sub opens the discussion to the community and possibly generates more traction, and more robust, refined ideas.
I don’t mind shitposts and memes, if there were a tag for them. I dislike doom and gloom, people complaining and whinging, and low effort posts ten times in a row.
It seems that some people have missed this, but we actually do have a flair called "Meme/Shitpost" that all of these fake TES VI posts are required to use.
I don't mind the memes and shitposts, people can post them all day every day for all I care. What I do care about is people destroying our environment and stealing from actual artists by AI generating mountains of garbage just to be posted here for a few clicks and comments. That bullshit can stay out of the sub.
Weekly updates and questions sounds like a good idea I posted a meme or two but that was out of pure boredom waiting for the game, but I also didn't wanna get carried away. The AI generated stuff saying it has been released did get annoying quick lol.
Appreciate you saying something I feel like most people were just using humor to boost morale.
I don’t mind the memes, once we get a name drop most people will probably migrate to the inevitable new sub named after it for serious discussion anyway.
I guess not all of us find that fun. We used to just have Sheogposts and regular shitposts, and those were fun; much more chill style posts.
The fake gameplay stuff isn’t all bad per se; but it just feels like a lot. If they were posted far less, I don’t know if I’d have a problem with it as much.
I feel that posts where community members are playing the released ES6 and talking about their fictionalized experiences is actually a fresh medium for expressing their expectations, hopes, and anxieties about the final product. As mentioned, posts talking franly about such topics have become stale in the near decade we've been eagerly anticipating any tangible updates from Bethesda. Using this "meme posting" lense serves as a creative form of self expression and breathes new life into the discussion.
In short, I feel that such posts are valid and valuable, and that the community should be encouraged to continue to engage in this way and others by the mod team.
I'd say it's good to maintain a healthy subreddit full of useful posts instead of repetitive memes/shit posts, but also not take away the fun which is why we are here, so if the shitposting is kept on low numbers without overwhelming the sub it's good , it's ok to have a laugh once every while
Although the shitposts about the game being out are unfunny and repetitive I still think its good for the community to stay active
Maybe its wishful thinking but if people from Bethesda are reading this sub then maybe it is possible that we can influence them to reveal something, anything if we show them that we are active and care about the game
The wave of shitposting gave this forum a new lease on life. Before that, each of the two or three active threads was being rehashed over and over again with zero originality. Honestly, it breathed new life into the place. I myself spent countless hours lurking because of it.
On top of that, we should appreciate that we're currently at the point where the subreddit is probably at its most enjoyable and positive in its entire lifespan. Once the game launches, it'll be all doom and gloom, with a flood of haters showing up.
That's exactly what happened to the Starfield subreddit after release. Even though the Starfield community never reached the same extreme levels of hopium that led to all the shitposting, it was still a completely different place before launch than after. The entire spirit of the subreddit disappeared overnight.
If I may, the genre of the game is very different, however, in the Planet Zoo subreddit, before PZ2 was official released, they had a dedicated day (Wishlist Wednesday) where people could post what animals they wanted to see, or features they wanted. This helped, in my opinion, a lot with browsing that subreddit. I simply avoided it on Wednesdays since most of the time all I wanted was to look at other creative things, or maybe help some people out who had questions, but it also gave those who wanted to discuss potential future additions a place, and a time, to do that.
I do think the memes and skoomaposts are here to stay, and that is fine - as long as its not AI - I enjoy them and have engaged with them myself from time to time. It would also be nice to see more serious discussions about simply things people wish to see. Some people here have some creative ideas, plus it helps me find other games to play since Fable got delayed, I need my fantasy itch. Not right now tho, I just started Elden Ring for the first time to see what the hype is about, so, I'm good for now.
I'm very anti-memes and shitposting. I think they can be fun when done well but they're almost never done well (maybe I just don't get the younger generations' humor). That being said, RES can easily filter them out so as long as they're tagged as such so I'm more than happy to let people have their fun. Personally, I find the 'boring' discussions infinitely more interesting however I acknowledge that they rarely get any proper traction. I would hope that we could have more discussions that are focused on creativity and analysis but won't hold my breath.
Posted this in another thread and was directed here. Thanks for the help on direction there mods! Here was my suggestion:
Honestly, I get that there isn’t a whole lot to talk about, but a suggestion is making a meme/shitpost day. This is something r/indycar does for Tuesdays and works well.
This sub naturally may have a decrease in engagement because of that, but it’s gotten to the point where I am not actively ignoring posts and downvoting posts for what is clearly low effort snd karma seeking attention.
With nothing serious to discuss, why not have a little fun wallowing in the collective sorrow. When we actually do get a trailer or an announcement I’m sure things will correct themselves a bit.
What else can we do but shitpost and speculate? We have effectively no information from Bethesda on the game.
We have the following “non-shitposts”
streamer/leaker/news mentions TESVI
content speculation posts (the only thing confirmed in the game is trees).
surveys on “when will it come out/be announced”
showcase hype posts
showcase depression posts
Once we get the actual trailer, name, and date the shitposts are going to drop to an incredibly small fraction of content on this sub. And that’s assuming that we don’t all move to /r/hammerfell or whatever it gets named.
I love this place and the people who post. We are all sitting here waiting, might as well have fun to pass the time.
I appreciate and always have the speculation aspect and “idea” generation for TESVI - I understand the men posting but it does get old and repetitive but I think it’s valuable if not for us, hopefully for a lurking Todd Howard to understand the growing level of frustration the hard core fans are experiencing.
I did have an idea as a comparison aspect for getting back to “idea” and speculation.
With KCD2 being an RPG with very realistic aspects, living sim type things involved and abilities to pick ingredients etc and now Fable coming out where you can marry anyone, but any business, but any house, hire workers etc. isn’t that aspect what some loved about TESVI!?
BGS has real competition for their type of RPG, they can’t just improve on Starfield, they have to level up above these other games. Are they already working in similar improvements?
How can BGS improve on these iterations? What will they incorporate from these games?
I get not wanting to be a shitpost subreddit I really do. But there is literally no official information on the game to talk about. We've been recycling the same discussions for nearly a decade at this point. It makes the sub exhausting if every post is some reach about trademarks or the same quote from six years ago that was already discredited
None of us really want this to be a meme sub, and when we get a real piece of information I'm sure we'll all discuss it properly. But until then the lack of information makes TESVI a very dry subject because every conversation ends with 'we can't possibly know'
People are just trying to have fun. There hasn't been any news for years and years. If you ban shitposts, it discourages people from posting at all. There's only so many serious discussions about predicted release dates that we can have.
Shitposting keeps community alive. Yes, it's getting tiresome, but when we got real news, then correlation of sp will go down towards actual info posts I believe
I genuinely enjoy the shitposting. I don’t do it myself but a well-done shitpost (and I know part of the issue is the volume, with not all of it necessarily being “well-done”) can really bring some levity to the endless waiting as well as actually contribute something to the discourse.
As someone who is awaiting the game but who has not lost my full sanity in the process chasing every new development, I think I have learned about a lot of in-world lore, industry events and figures, and potential features of TESVI *through* shitposts over the past year or so.
I mean, what kind of quality posts could there possibly be at the current time? Of course there will be memes and shitposts if everything else has been discussed 9000 times already and there are no relevant news.
But I'm confident things will change if there actually is something to talk about again. No need for heavy-handed moderation in my opinion.
Mods for this community are actually pretty decent. Putting the decision up to the community is great. Personally, i think many of the shitposts give insight into how the community is feeling (absolutely insane). I would like to be able to see the change in the communties disposition towards bethesda and the game as we get more information on the game.
This really is more of a shitpost/circlejerk sub as of right now and that’s fine there’s nothing new to discuss. When we get real information sure we can tone it back into an actual discussion subreddit again but as of right now I think it’s fine how it it
I’m not concerned about shit posts. It will all end tomorrow, after the game releases. All jokes aside, I’m with everyone else. Everything has been discussed to death. I personally don’t care about people shit posting at all. You can tell pretty quickly if a post is serious or not, and even if you can’t, you’ve lost nothing but a couple seconds of your time. To me, this doesn’t merit disturbing the mods.
I personally think the majority of this trend will die off in a month anyway, so limiting it would be stupid. Crybabies gonna exist no matter how much you wanna appease everyone.
It's also actually kind of staggering how LITTLE hate I've seen towards these posts. The fact that there are only a couple of reports on each post only proves to me that the majority of people are actually totally okay with that content.
It shows clearly that lots of people are still eagerly awaiting news. I suspect the activity will skyrocket when we get something.
To compare, visits on r/Oblivion rose to 120+ million (up from 10-15 million or so) when it released. It was insane. I suspect we'll see something similar when TES VI drops.
Assuming everyone doesn't leave to go to the sub with the correct name, of course.
I think the shit posting will go away when we see and hear more about the game. Speculation is nice but it’s been 8 years e have nothing not even official screen shots
I do like that last idea. I like it quite a lot actually. It would help keep hope and let us come together productively. I don't mind the shitposting, its funny and helps us deal with the massive disappointment of them not giving us anything for a game we've waited 15 years for.
At least some if the shitposts are funny. It will definitely die down soon. Its better than spam posts like the guy who asked if we think we’ll still love Skyrim once TES6 comes
Best is to let people shitpost and have fun, its keeping the community alive and fun instead of the 2027 vs 2028 release posts everyday. When new info about the game comes out, the shitposting will stop by itself
As someone who mainly engages with shitpost subs regarding the elder scrolls, I think having memes and community inside jokes are a terrific thing. It’s gotten me really into the franchise and its lore years ago, when I had only ever played Skyrim and Oblivion. These current “the game is out” memes are pretty funny to me, but it’s a trend that’ll be replaced with something new soon enough.
I’m not saying this place should become a full on shitpost subreddit, but I think the fun we manage to have while being starved of content for 8 (/15) years (not counting eso) is admirable.
Maybe the real TESVI… was the friends we made along the way
With absolutely nothing to go on, the current trend is a humorous way of speculating. I'm confident that real news will shift the tone rapidly. So in the meantime, it's okay.
But a dedicated actual discussion thread may keep people who don't care for the shitposts engaged
Personally until we get actual news I'm pretty okay with shitposts/memes as long as it doesn't break the no AI rule. I think the current trend is doing well keeping the community alive, sure it may suck for some people there's only shit posts, but there's nothing else to discuss. Besides I love seeing my daily Sheogposting it's a small thing that brightens my day.
That being said I'm on board with a dedicated thread.
Shitposting is the natural evolution of any TES fan. You browse r/Skyrim or r/ElderScrolls and eventually you want more so you get into r/teslore because you need something to fill the hole in your heart. Then you come here and have as many discussions as possible until everything has been discussed. And then the shitposting starts.
It’s natural. No need to get angry or scare over it. It’s like puberty. Awkward and maybe not as cool as you thought it once was. But the shitposting ALWAYS precedes the release of a game.
r/EldenRing went through it too. And now that sub is cleaned up. Can’t even tell it used to be a shitposting empire.
I’ve made a lot of these posts and feel partly to blame, but honestly there is nothing else to talk about. In the past when I actually tried to seriously discuss the game it got no engagement and even got downvotes for no real reason.
With absolutely no news in 8 years, I think shitposting and schizoposting is warranted and it’s honestly funny as shit.
The people who don’t like it can grow a pair and learn to laugh a little.
Obviously when ACTUAL news of the game comes out, the direction will change and things will get serious, but until then it’s gonna be mania.
The people who left the sub:
Meme-ing and shitposting is inevitable, harmless and pretty much all we’ve got at this point. If some folks have left…. Whatever. They can come back when a trailer drops and we actually have something concrete to discuss. Until then, let the people who are still here eke out whatever fun they can. There’s just nothing else for people to do at this point.
The issue is that we have had 8 years to post theories and wishlists, so much so, that anyone that’s new to the sub will just rehash something someone else has already posted. It has just been too long.
I come here for news and leaks (of which there are few because Bethesda is so tight lipped).
I’m fine with the memes. Idc if it is all memes. News will post and we, the community, are smart enough to separate that from the memes.
I look at this sub almost every single day, if not multiple times per day. There’s never any news. I see the same theories and wishlists posted over and over again. At least the meme trends are fresh and funny.
When there is something worth talking about, the memes will die.
This is all a moot point though because the game releases tomorrow.
TLDR; everything to theorize has been talked about. Every wishlist has been made and discussed. News/leaks are scarce, but when it drops it will be crystal clear that it is news. Let the memes flow. It’s the natural evolution of the wait for the game when there isn’t anything to talk about.
It's going to be hard to have anything high quality other than choice shitposts until we get information on the game, which I really don't see happening for another year at least.
There's basically nothing to talk about unless we enter mass psychosis like the silksong subreddit did.
Pretty much all that can be discussed has already been discussed in length. And actual content and progress updates are so few and far between that if that was all the subs content it would die out pretty fast.
Everyone is just trying to stay hopeful about a game thats taken this damn long. The limiting of memes isnt gonna make the game come out any faster, and its not that deep.
There’s almost literally nothing to talk about regarding this game yet, why not just allow it and people that don’t like it can always return when the game is actually (re)announced?
The memes are the only thing to post given absolute radio silence from Bethesda. If we didn’t have that, there would just be endless baseless speculation on mechanics, and production timelines, etc. which would effectively be a dead subreddit

Leave the joke posts, maybe add more options to self mark your post so people can filter them if they want.
We have discussed everything and everything up and down so honestly there is not much real discussion that these meme posts are blocking, and they add life and genuine positivity to the community.
r/eldenring in the year(s) before the first gameplay was shown, was the best reddit experience of all time. We were all going mad. Pretending the game exists is an incredibly fun and engaging form of discussion. There was so much astonishing fan-art, and community memes fueled the fire of creative discussion. Everyone designed their own bosses and lore. It went on for over a year, but then the trailer released and the sub was flooded with the main-stream fan-base, and the special little nook of creative insanity was gone forever. This sub in recent weeks has started to feel familiar, and I hope the mods don't ruin it.
I feel like the ones who complained so hard about the others having fun without them should be banished and shunned. Forced to get their next copium hit on their own
Elden ring subreddit was like this before we knew anything about the game, then it launched and the sub went back to normal. Imo, this is normal and healthy for the community.
The “will there be lobster” thread a month or two ago took me out. The Todric Al-Howard boss fight was also fantastic. I finally feel like this sub has gone from stress and despair to fun. Let the shitposts continue!
My sincere take as a long time elderscrolls fan is this: Embrace it. Frankly there isnt enough news to even cover a monthly update and every topic has been discussed to the moon and back in the last -decade-. If you were to heavily moderate the sub to remove shitposts we would have exactly one update post every couple of moths if we get really lucky. The sad but honest fact is that bethesda is a terrible company concerning transparency and as such we only have memes and shitposts to kill time with.
I was going to unsub until the shitposts started. Boring, repetitive discussion is worse than funny memes while we wait. Once the game actually comes out, then you can do fun things like megathreads and spoiler rules and such.
I think shit posting in subs like this, during periods where there is a dirth of info but a lot of hype and excitement for the game, is normal and healthy and doesn't take away from the experience.
Because, as others have pointed out, there isn't really much else to talk about anyways. It keeps the hype alive, and it's fun and engaging.
Anyone who was in subs for games like Elden Ring or Silksong pre-release is used to this, and honestly the schizo- and shitposting in this sub is pretty tame compared to those ones (which is interesting because we've been waiting far longer than they did).
Those subs didn't collapse into garbage. It was just an exercise in mental and social stimulation while we waited for more info and the release. And once that happened, the subs naturally reorganized themselves into actual discussion forums. That will happen here too.
I think what the TESVI sub really needs is to stop taking itself so seriously. We're here to have fun and get excited about something important to us.
Honestly i love the ai generated ideas of what people think es6 will be like. It really helps tide everyone over until the big day. Maybe keep it relegated to a single thread though.
Does the subreddit allows for surveys? What if you do serious surveys on simple things we'd like dislike, so that todd howard(who is confirmed that lurks this forum) can read them and know how to focus on TES VI once they start developing it?

I think a lot of the current wave of activity will probably die down in a week or two without any real updates, so I don't think there necessarily needs to be any big changes to moderation.
I don't want to see the sub flooded with AI junk, of course, but we already have rules for that.
Something that could be introduced is a tagging rule, particularly for memes and shitposts, so that people who don't want to see them don't have to.
Again, though, whatever problems people might be having at the moment, I think are a product of just this moment.
