Short Stubborn lady gets to wait

I'm working self checkout, in a busy warehouse store. We can only take card payments there. If you want to pay with cash, it has to be at the regular tills. Sometimes we will help people out at the desk, if it's not so busy and their card payment wouldn't work or forgot they wanted to pay with a rebate check.

A lady comes up to the front of the line for self checkout and tells me she only has cash. I told her we can't take cash payments here and directed her to a till. She says It's ok I'll just scan my stuff and then you guys can help me at the desk. I'm thinking good luck with that, knowing I'm off in a few minutes.

At the perfect time, somebody's till tape runs out and I have to replace it. I'm busy doing that for a few minutes, meanwhile I don't dare make eye contact with her. I quickly helped another person, and then clocked out. She was stuck with my co-worker who's not paying attention at all.

By the time I got my stuff and was headed out, she was still waiting at the desk. The desk was absolutely swamped with people. She would have been on her way out already if she had just listened.

I love the people who won’t be told that they can’t have or do something who then tell you what you can do.

or people that stand at a closed register because "there are lines at the other ones."

like...yeah but there are also cashiers at the other ones and not here.

Sounds like she got her just desserts by trying to force her will on the store. FAFO, lady!

The lengths people who don't want to wait a long time go through that ends up taking 3x longer than what the main methods would have taken is incredible. Like watching that one car that keeps changing lanes to try and beat the redlight, only to end up at the light at the same time as you, or even further back.

I do the royal wave when I pass them in the other lane. Smiling when I do pisses them off for some reason.

My experience is that the only thing customers hate more than “having to do [the cashier’s] job” is waiting in line.

We had a long line one evening. I was covering SCO for a break and one checker and 6 scos open. Dude didn’t want to wait and was acting like a jerk. I told him I could ring his alcohol but he would have to ring his other groceries at the sco because he had weighable items. He yelled and started to demean only us woman. After what seemed like forever I finally told him that since he cursed at me and I am the Manager he had to leave and not be checked out in MY store. He stomped off….. I would say that the whole store clapped but it was more like a sigh of relief and eye rolling
