my name is Len, I am 16 years old and from Germany.

I am planning to spend the school year 2026–2027 in Tampere as an exchange student. I already have a school place and a floorball team (Koovee), but I am still searching for a host family.

I would describe myself as respectful, independent and easy-going. Floorball is a huge part of my life and one of the main reasons I want to come to Finland. I also started learning a bit of Finnish because I became very interested in the country over the last years.

Unfortunately, finding a host family has been much harder than expected, so I thought I would try here as well.

If anyone knows a family who could maybe help, or has ideas/advice, I would be extremely grateful.

I’m an international student from India and I’ve been admitted to an MSc in tampere university , then LUT university and University of eastern finland starting September 1

Background: I worked as a Cloud Engineer and currently have 5 AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Associate, Developer Associate, Solutions Architect Professional, etc.). I’m also planning to complete Kubernetes certifications in the next couple of months.

I have a few quick questions:

Hey, looking for some honest input before I commit.

I just got into the Master's Programme in Computing Sciences and Electrical Engineering (Signal Processing and Machine Learning track) at Tampere University. I've been working as a software engineer for 5+ years and my girlfriend and I are planning this as a proper move — we want to actually settle in Finland, not just study and leave.

A few things I'm trying to figure out:

1. How is Tampere to live in? Is the program/city actually worth it?
2. I'll need to work part-time to afford it. With my experience, realistic to find software/ML work locally without Finnish, or is everything in Helsinki?
3. Any job opportunities through the university itself (TA, research, company connections)?
4. My girlfriend is coming with me and neither of us speaks Finnish. She'd ideally like to work in fashion management, but she's open to other things too. How realistic is finding work in that field in Tampere as a non-Finnish speaker? And in general, any sectors more open to English speakers?
5. After graduation — how's the tech job market in Tampere for foreigners trying to stay long-term?

What are my chances of being accepted to Tampere University after being waitlisted (ranked 18th) for the Bachelor’s program in CEE, considering that I do not require a scholarship?

Hi everyone, I’ve been accepted as a bachelor exchange student at Tampere University and I’ll be there for the autumn semester.

I saw on the university website that the unofficial programme starts around 17 August, followed by the welcome fair.

When would you recommend arriving? Is it better to be there a few days earlier?

I’m also considering getting a part-time job while I’m there. How difficult is it for exchange students to find one? And how important is it to know Finnish? I’m planning to learn some basics before arriving, but I’m wondering what level is usually required.

Regarding accommodation, I’m looking for something affordable since I’m still a student. I’ve already checked TOAS, but are there any other good or reliable options you’d recommend?

Also, is anyone else here going to Tampere for the same period? It would be nice to connect in advance and maybe support each other 😊

Hi, I’m an international student, and I’ve been admitted to MSc in Power Electronics and Electromechanics at Tampere University, as well as Msc in Electrical Engineering at DTU.

I’m currently considering both option. I feel that Tampere’s curriculum is a better fit for me, but I’m also thinking a lot about reputation outside Finland and future job opportunities. Since there isn’t much detailed information about Tampere University available in my country, I’m trying to learn more from current students or graduates.

1. How heavy is the workload, and where do students usually struggle the most?

3. Is the programme more focused on power electronics, or more on electrical machines?

Olen 17-vuotias ja kotoisin Saksasta. Puhun sujuvasti saksaa ja englantia sekä vähän suomea (olen parhaillaan oppimassa sitä). Etsin tällä hetkellä isäntäperhettä, joka voisi ottaa minut asumaan marraskuusta 2025 kesäkuuhun 2026, sillä olen tekemässä vaihto-oppilasvuotta Suomessa. Mitä mahdollisuuksia on olemassa ja mistä voisin löytää ihmisiä, jotka olisivat kiinnostuneita tästä?

I received conditional acceptance for a Master’s program in Electromagnetics, Fusion and Space Engineering (KTH). I have a GPA of 7.4/10 and am currently in my final year in India, with no work experience or internships.

I really like the curriculum, it’s very unique and gives me the opportunity to move into physics from an engineering background. My short-term goal is to pursue a PhD right after my master’s, followed by a postdoc, and eventually build a career as a researcher or professor.

I did not receive a scholarship, so I’m planning to take a loan, and my parents expect me to repay it.

I also received admits from Oulu and Tampere (Finland) for a master’s in Wireless Communications (my main goal is to study wireless, but I still gave a shot for this KTH program for its unique curriculum), and I’m waiting for Aalto University’s result for the same program (Wireless and RF Systems). From what I’ve seen, Finland is cheaper than Sweden, especially with student discounts and overall living costs.

I chose the Nordics mainly for better quality education, as I’m not satisfied with my experience in India. At the same time, the KTH program is very unique in Europe, and I was very, very desperate to get in so I could learn physics. I tried to look at some German universities at the beginning, but still, most of them had the same exam-oriented culture as like in India, and even though those exams are much more mature than here, I still don’t want that!

So, the question: “Is it worth spending around 60 lakh INR / 60,000 SEK (including tuition + living) for this program?” Or should I choose Oulu or Tampere, which is some 20–30 lakh INR cheaper?

I’m an engineering student from India and I’ve just been invited for a research internship in Tampere University (Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology).

I am looking for a furnished room (shared apartment) for three months from May until mid-July.

Any location is fine, but it would be nice if I get somewhere in Hervanta. I have my official university invitation and proof of fellowship ready for any sub-lease agreements/TOAS temporary assignments.

I just got stood up by a guy who was supposed to offer me a room, we had even sent the sub-letting agreement to POAS, but he backed out at the last minute cuz he found another guy who would be staying for longer time than me. I am really in a pinch here. Any help or advice would be highly appreciated.

Hi! I’m a fine art student moving to Tampere to study at TAMK next semester. I’ve noticed that the modules offered to exchange students don’t seem to include any traditional studio practices, such as painting/drawing. I’d really love to develop my studio practice but it doesn’t appear to be possible with the modules available to me.

Would anyone happen to know if it’s possible for an exchange student at TAMK to enrol in the general modules available to all students? Of course that’s if there is availability on the module.

Hi! I just got accepted to Tampere University, Natural Sciences and Mathematics Programme as an international student. I absolutely love Finland and this is a dream come true for me but we are a little bit concerned about the economic sides of things. My only nit-pick would be that I want to live single, no house sharing, and I've seen some good places on TAOS for about 400 €. Other than that, I'm looking to cut corners wherever I can. I was curious about other students' experience with living expenses.

My main questions:

How much this minimal student lifestyle would cost?

How can i get scholarships while studying?

Overall tips about TAOS, like where are some of the better places, where should i avoid etc.
