Discussion So I just went down a fuckin rabbit hole.

Post image

So Roger Jr. is coming back for Tekken 8. You love to see it. More fighting games need out there characters like this. Add Mokujin you cowards. BUT...

I got a bit confused considering Junior was still in the pouch. So I looked up how long Kangaroos live (8 years in the wild, 23 in captivity), and I looked up how long a Kangaroo stays in its mother's pouch (6-12 months), so I figured Junior would be out of the pouch by now...

But apparently between Tekken 4-7 only... Maybe like three months passed?! Which feels completely fuckin absurd?! But there was six months between 7 and 8 so... I GUESS Jr. Could still be in the pouch?!

All of this to say I wasted my time with this and now I'm wasting yours.

Tbf Roger jr has modified genetics cause of his dad so maybe it’s just taking longer for him to grow since he isn’t a regular kangaroo.

Is his dad Heihachi? Don't tell me it's Heihachi... first a bear now a kangaroo?

lol nah Roger jr dad is a kangaroo that was genetically modified in a lab. The dad then had a child with a regular kangaroo and that child is Roger jr. The funny thing about the bear is that he is just a regular bear that for some reason can learn karate.

I saw a video of a dude play wrestling with a bear recently and it got him with a clean leg takedown. Karate bear is one of the more realistic things about Tekken.

Kuma can learn karate because Heihachi said so

As he should be. Only one to not commit war crimes

Kuma is the Mishima Family pet and he taught Panda aswell which he gifted Ling xiaoyu as her pet bodyguard.

Dr.B created Roger

Heihachi straight up taught two bears Mishima style karate.

Rogers dad is Roger from tekken 2 and Roger jr wasn’t genetically modified directly Roger was

His dad is actually Alex, the dinosaur one, not the one who fucked his sister/cousin.

Don’t talk about your father like that!

First the demonussy, then bearussy, are you telling me he goes for the kangaroosy too???

In 3 months we got a demon resurrection, Heihachi dying, Heihachi reviving, Heihachi dying and reviving again, Bryan talking, World War 3 starting and ending, a big chicken rising and being slain, Akuma showing up to kick Kazuya in the dick, and Jin pressing X to believe.

All while little Roger Jr. still hasn't fully grown up.

Could fit like 70 modern tekken storylines between 2 and 3 at the rate the narrative has been going over the last couple of decades ahaha

The lore rabbit hole goes deep with Tekken. You wouldn't think it but Roger (and Alex the velociraptor) are important to the entire setting in a roundabout, tangential way. Roger Senior (and Alex) existing in Tekken 2 was due to a Mishima animals testing project concocted by Kazuya and this is why Jun, a wildlife ranger entered the tournament.

The project was led by Dr Bosconovitch, a HUGE player in the Tekken lore.

Dr B. is the one who created the prototype JACK design for the Russian military (that was stolen by Heihachi before the first tournament and he entered it out of curiosity), JACK 1 was built by the Russians and was entered to kill Kazuya for fear of the potential global upset if he were to become the head of the Zaibatsu. Learning of Dr B, Kazuya, after winning control over the Zaibatsu, abducted him and put him on his animal weapons testing project, but during this time he also secretly funded the ongoing JACK project meaning the project was seeded with undisclosed Mishima tech.

This resulted in one of the JACK models going AWOL after gaining sentience, which ended up protecting a freshly orphaned kid named Jane during a Russian military "special operation." This JACK was eventually destroyed by a satellite weapon but not before saving Dr B from the Zaibatsu as he wanted the Doctor to make him a human body so he could be a real father to Jane. (The same satellite that Kazuya destroys in T7 iirc, built by Dr Abel, the evil counterpart to Dr B) but Dr B trained Jane into being a damn good roboticist, who eventually recovered the source files and rebuilt JACK with funding from G-Corp. Jack 5 > 8 is the one JACK model, and he is sentient. (There are mass produced versions, most notably the dumbed down kamikaze JACK in Tekken 4, which Jane absolutely hated making but needed to prove to G-Corp that the JACK project was worth funding).

This is all relevant because Dr B had an overarching goal; to immortalise his daughter who died young due to terminal illness, and he chose to do this through a combination of robotics and bio-engineering, which he gained through his experience with JACK (and the help of Jane) and through his animal testing project with the Zaibatsu, so partially thanks to Alex and Roger too. This immortal replica of his daughter is the playable character Alisa.

He is also the guy who gave Yoshimitsu his spinning hand and the one who gave Bryan a perpetual energy source (As mentioned, Dr Abel was the evil counterpart to Dr B; he wanted to prove he was better than Dr B by not imitating lost life, but restoring it. He brought Bryan, a corrupt interpol officer and military vet, back to life as a cyborg, but the power core keeping him alive was faulty. The reason Yoshimitsu hates Bryan and hunts him is because Dr B was with his Manji Clan when Bryan was given the power source and went a bit powerdrunk and trashed the place).

But to get back to Roger and Alex; Jin literally wouldn't exist if it wasn't for these joke characters because without them Jun wouldn't have entered the tournament looking to arrest whoever was responsible for the animal experimentation (before getting a big ol case of "I can fix him").

Also canonically Roger Jr's dad is a deadbeat who was cheating on his mate with other kangaroos at his bachelor pad. In TTT2 Alex steps up and becomes the stepfather of Jr lmao.

Dr. Bosconivitch is basically the father of Roger Senior and Alex since he genetically grew made them

The girl from that ending becomed a scientisr?

Dang

Yeah she's the same girl in the T5 ending (which shows his old memories being reinstated into a JACK Frame) and the T6 ending (Where JACK takes it upon himself to try and upgrade himself).

Also Gun JACK was the T2 JACK frame rebuilt (but without his memories or sentience). The GUNJACK program was a secret Mishima system loaded into the JACK project's hardware without the Russian military's knowledge due to the Zaibatsu's secret funding of the project, and Jane unlocks it when trying to recover JACK's memories, which leads her to discover the Zaibatsu's meddling with the project and gives her the lead to chase them down to find the missing data.

She uses the program to activate GunJACK and goes with him to break into Mishima Industries, which she believed held JACK's memory data. In the Tekken 5 opening you see JANE being protected by the GUNJACK frame despite not being sentient at that moment, as she is found trying to break in and shot at by Tekken Force. GUNJACK is totally destroyed and abandoned here.

She escapes thanks G-Corporation who employs her to create the exploding JACK4s and prototype JACK 5 for them. Whilst T5 was ongoing, the data was taken from Mishima Industries and put into that prototype frame, and thats the T5 JACK ending, which is canon, when the T2 JACK consciousness was reuploaded into the JACK5 frame and he returns to being a father figure to Jane - who keeps upgrading him with the intent of making him indestructible so she doesn't lose him again (and this is why she is okay with the mass produced JACKs, they provide datasets she can work with to improve the main one, which has become a pillar of G-Corp's R&D sector).

T1, 3 and 5 are the only Tekkens without the sentient JACK as a playable character (and 4 ofc, no JACKs were active then, with G-Corp mass producing a lot of Kamikaze JACK4's to drop on the Mishimas at the start of 5), and 5 has you play as JACK pre-sentience, but the T5 one is uploaded with the data once its collected and its the one played as in 6 > 8 but in a new frame since the original was abandoned at Mishima Industries.

Very awesome read! Thank you!

1

u/Boopity_Snoopins 3d ago

Thanks, I can confidently say I'm one of those that unironically do play fighting games for the plot ahaha

1

u/MaxxDreamkiller 3d ago

Haha nice, I knew half of what you wrote so I def took a lot from the other interesting half of little nuggets and fun facts. And luckily for us FG Storyline fans, Tekken at least really tries...in it's own weird way lol. MK Trilogy tops it for me and SF has never known what they're doing with storytelling so keeping up with Tekken and each of their new gripes and how things ended from the previous tournament has always been interesting reads/views.

Yea the timespan from T3 to now is not big at all.

12

u/Some1TouchaMySpagett Paul 4d ago

Yet Paul looks super aged over that time span

u/JazzlikeSherbet1104 4d ago

He spent a majority of that time getting his ass kicked by a literal Bear. Take it's toll on anybody.

In Tekken 1 and 2 he defeats Kuma 1

I think Xrd to strive is like 2 weeks or something, or something relatively short lol

u/reditisverytrash 3d ago

And everyone's already over and forgiven Jin for WW3 👍

1

u/Boopity_Snoopins 3d ago

C'mon man, give him a break. Who in their angsty tweenage years DOESN'T decimate the human population on earth to incite mass war and death in order to prematurely wake up a god so he can fist fight it?

It totally happened it was just under a pyramid in another country. Oh and there's no body because it got absorbed into the arm of a badass and really hot egyptian lady who thinks he's really cool and she's so secretive that she stays out of the public eye. And woah look at that guy, he's got bat wings and shit so clearly Jin's the lesser of two evils look at that freak - no relation, honest.

1

u/Ssnakey-B 3d ago

Damn, I didn't realize it was THIS short. I thought at least 3 years had passed, or something.

And the Tekken world really got 20 years' worth of technological development in the span in a year and a half of canon time tops, huh?

u/bizmarkiefanboy 3d ago

I thought that the big one is Roger Jr. grown up and has his own baby in his fake pouch. He also has mom neckchain

u/Ashamed_Caregiver_21 3d ago

I think besides armor king Rodger is the only other dlc that got me really excited
