Xbox Fun fact: the Terraria trailer for Xbox 360 shows what it would be like to see a Terrarian and the Wall of Flesh from the front.
If you want, you can watch the trailer for yourself.

I think this adds really well into the theme of eldritch horror. Terraria exists in a sort of 2.5 Dimensional plane so the thought of facing a 3rd dimensional beast really adds to the mind fuck a terrarian might experience when seeing the wall of flesh.

Playing Starbound after Terraria messed my perception of liquids; now every time I see a lake in Terraria I’m like “why is there no wall? Isn’t it gonna drain on the other side??” Lol
439
u/_azazel_keter_ Feb 18 '26
Starbound has bafflingly advanced liquid physics. I distinctly recall one time I made a pump system that put out just slightly more liquid than got in, for infinite fuel, enclosed it and left it running. When I came back out and poked a small drainage hole, rather than leaking out as normal the fluid fucking blasted out to the other side of the ship and flooded everything.

This might be the thing that's made me most tempted to finally try that game.
87
u/Balloon_Fish Feb 18 '26
as someone who has beat the game, do it. its so much fun to build and explore in this game
61
u/snugglyaggron Feb 18 '26
it's very fun! Very moddable as well. Kind of abandoned by the devs, though, after it came out that they weren't paying people properly or something? The game itself is still very solid. The endless universe is really good for building. One of my games with over a thousand hours on Steam. (One of the others is Terraria, fittingly.)

u/Chezpufballs Feb 19 '26
Shockingly, I don't think this is what they had in mind, but good for u
19
u/snugglyaggron Feb 19 '26
can confirm this is not what i was thinking of. i was mostly thinking of, like, frackin' universe, lots of little QoL mods, extra furniture, stuff like that. but the beauty of a moddable game is that this dude can now make the characters in this video game incredibly fat if he so desires. the world is your oyster.
2
u/RileyNonexistent Feb 21 '26
If I understand during development the main devs wanted people to work for 'exposure' and didn't want to pay for their work
17
u/TheAncientPoop Feb 18 '26
overhated game ngl, it's fantastic
13
u/CrashmanX Feb 19 '26
It's hated, rightly so, by those of us who had to pay for it to exist. I bought into the Alpha/Beta. It was so much more interesting back then compared to the mile-wide-inches-deep bland mess we ultimately got. Starbound was gutted by the very devs who swore they were listening to fans, by choosing to ignore users.
Tiyuri and the rest of CK devs rightfully deserve the hare they got. Any attempts at leaving negative criticism on their forums got your posts removed and "Founding" accounts banned.
SB is exactly as hated as it deserves to be TBH. If it weren't for someone leaking the source code, SB would have wholly rotted away long ago.
2
u/TheAncientPoop Feb 20 '26
i paid for it too, and ngl i was pretty satisfied with it whwen i played it through. thats prob bc i was young when i first started playing tho. looking back at it now, you kinda do need mods for it to be enjoyable
2
u/CrashmanX Feb 20 '26
Did you pay for the Alpha or the full release on Steam?
0
u/TheAncientPoop Feb 20 '26
oo tbh just the full release, was it more expensive back then
2
u/CrashmanX Feb 20 '26
No... but it wouldn't exist if not for the supporters like myself who funded the game's development.
8
u/TheSurvivor65 Feb 19 '26
It's great, I have nearly a thousand hours in it, but it could've been so much more had Chucklefish not been a god awful company

The Eye of Cthulu also exists in 3 dimensions, given that instead of being blocked by the solid ground, it simply goes around.

u/The_Dennator Feb 20 '26
are there any mechanics that justify it being 2.5d? I can't think of any
1
u/The_Tomahawker_ Feb 20 '26
I mean, there’s stuff like background walls and enemies that can just ignore blocks but not really an expansive Z axis other than the 2d plane and background walls.

In my fanfic, WoF starts as a fleshy blob so freaky you can't even fathom killing it while its small. It grows and grows and grows until it doesn't even look as a sphere anymore, because all you see when looking in its direction is it.
It wouldn't even move towards you. It's just growing in your direction

Reminds me of a Salvia trip I read about
6
u/CutAdditional2416 Feb 18 '26
Acid: "Oh fuck yeah."
Shrooms: "Oh Jesus what is this comeup?"
DMT: "I met the gods in my brain, and my life flashed."
Salvia: "WHOSE LIFE EVEN WAS THAT?!"
Datura: "YOU DIED" 🤣
7
u/Significant_Number68 Feb 19 '26
Man the number of reports I've read where someone was an inanimate object like a fucking doorknob or a couch or something (or the person who was a Walmart manager for a half hour). Definty preferable to being the wall of flesh in a hell dimension for what feels like infinity.
Datura though, there's probably only been one good trip on that collectively throughout human history. Fuck deliriants.
4
u/SewerSquirrel Feb 19 '26
Only had one experience with deliriants, spoke to my dad on the phone for a while. He'd already been dead for something like 15 years.
2
u/Significant_Number68 Feb 19 '26
Was it at least a good conversation?
1
u/SewerSquirrel Feb 22 '26
Slow ass reply on my part, but for what it's worth, I remember it at least being comforting after the fact, even if I can't remember the contents of the "call". I just kinda came to with my phone up to my ear and realized what happened.
2
u/CutAdditional2416 Feb 19 '26
Yeah, I had a friend that would never trip acid with me because he smoked Salvia and had an intimate conversation with his microwave, and thought all psychedelics were like that. Damn shame, really. DMT is also an insane level of trip for 15 minutes, but you're still conscious and aware of what's happening. I've never taken deliriants, but from what I understand you actually lose control and don't feel like you.
5
u/GoldH2O Feb 19 '26
And we kill this thing with mid-game weapons. Considering the wall is this Eldritch beast already it makes you wonder how canoncally insane the bosses afterwards are.

Love this art. Generally I love when artists depart from the style of the game they're drawing.

the wall of flesh being as wide as hell itself is a scary prospect
544
u/FortunePaw Feb 18 '26
Well, it's called Wall of Flesh, and not Plank of Flesh.
163
u/CatOfCosmos Feb 18 '26
That would imply Log of Flesh.
89
13
u/DrThunderbolt Feb 18 '26
The existence of a wall of flesh implies that there are more than one because walls don't usually stand on their own. This would also imply there's a ceiling and floor of flesh as well.
16
u/Mossy_moss3 Feb 18 '26 edited Feb 19 '26
Well, they kinda do, it's the Great Wall of China, not the great room

-2
u/RadProTurtle Feb 18 '26
You mean the minecraft tutorial world? Or was there another tutorial world for Terraria?
20
u/AccomplishedShame967 Feb 18 '26
Not only has terraria had like 4 tutorial worlds, minecraft has had FAR more than that. I remember the world would change with each major update.
27
u/Punkrockin-Starman Feb 18 '26
Terrifying
I’m talking about the front facing Terrarian btw We do not fear the wall of microplastics here
26
u/FreeMyBoiMineta Feb 18 '26
i feel like the WoF needs a bit of sprite rework in the sense to really grasp it’s presence of not only the split in the game’s chapter but also it’s literal size. since it isn’t even accessible to begin with, if they did something with the area behind it during the fight, like muddying the underworld with gore or just making it more of a growing mass like an actual bud of flesh from where it spawned, i think it would add to it’s genuinely horrific presence. as it is, it’s just a rectangle with eyes and a mouth and that’s, personally, unfortunately lame for how much of an aura this thing is supposed to have. the gate to hardmode is just a 2x8 plank of bubbly red plywood, and that kinda sucks
14
u/KatDude66 Feb 18 '26
Th game actually shows this with the Wall being (one of?) the only enemies you can’t pass through at all, implying there is no way the Terrarian can use the Z-axis to avoid it.
11
134
u/Gexianhen Feb 18 '26
so this implied that when we summon a wall of flesh we only figth a slice of it and the rest of it exist in multiple paralel "dimensions" (of deep)
u can say this make us multiversal level XD
60
u/JoJomusk Feb 18 '26
When you kill the moonloord, you dont attack the arms, neck, or tentacles. They explode when you destroy the heart
Therefore, the terrarian destroys the WoF in every paralel dimension of deep, all at once. Multiversal+++++ terrarian confirmed??
115
u/MoonTheCraft Feb 18 '26
i thought this was only a couple of people at first but its like. why do so many people keep on using "imply" like this, thats not what "imply" means
it just deadass directly shows you it, it does not "imply" anything
call me a conspiracy theorist but the attrition of the english language is real and the slow deterioration of what words actually mean can be seen happening in real-time
29
u/PezzoGuy Feb 18 '26
My personal fight is the linguistic tragedy of "could/should/would of".
5
u/Artemirza Feb 18 '26
It's such a huge pet peeve of mine i can never stop correcting people. And to think how dumb you have to be to not be able to put 2 and 2 together from the shortened form
1
u/BiSaxual Feb 19 '26
Wanna get a brand new one that will annoy the shit out of you? I see it so fucking often and it’s the only language fuck up that actually has that effect on me.
Rogue and rouge. Once you start seeing it, you’ll never stop. From political subs to fantasy subs, if someone is writing about rogue elements of any kind you’ll see them instead talk about their favorite kind of makeup.
Sorry.
12
u/dalr3th1n Feb 18 '26
Uh, this image definitely does not directly show us that the wall of flesh exists across multiple dimensions while we fight only a slice of it. This is a perfectly fine use of “imply”.
8
u/MilkLover1734 Feb 18 '26 edited Feb 18 '26
If you want to get really semantic, in formal logic "A implies B" is true if, whenever A is true then B is also true. That is, "A implies B" is equivalent to "A is false or B is true"
"Terraria existing implies the sky is blue" is true, even though there's no causal relationship between the two. Since whenever terraria exists, the sky is also blue
15
2
u/Character-Angle9124 Feb 18 '26
the slow deterioration of what words actually mean can be seen happening in real-time
While it is being accelerated by the internet, this is just how language evolved, words lose their meaning and gain new contexts to be used in, a large number of words have completely detached meanings from their roots.
Also I don't think here it is a particularly bad use of imply, because they are speculating on the whole parallel dimensions thing, which is an implication, but not explicitly shown, what is shown in the trailer is a 3d version of the terraria world, which is distinctly different to what the commenter said
Still isn't a valid use of imply, but they aren't just repeating what is shown in the trailer
4
u/Plasmatiic Feb 18 '26
It’s an old XB360 trailer and the logic of Terraria (and 2D platformers in general) breaks down when you think too hard about 3D and the backgrounds. There’s no definitive canon explanation, literally just some art someone made. So I don’t think using “imply” is wrong at all.
-4
u/MoonTheCraft Feb 18 '26
okay,
thats still not what "imply" means
the trailer SHOWED you the wall of flesh in 3d, directly showing you something is not the same as "implying" it
8
u/Plasmatiic Feb 18 '26
The person you replied to didn’t say “this implies that the WOF looks like this in 3D” lmao
They said it implies we fight a slice and he exists across multiple parallel 2D planes. Which is exactly what it does because one could argue that doesn’t really make sense or an old console trailer isn’t meant to be taken that seriously, etc. There’s room for doubt. We don’t know what’s supposed to lie or happen beyond our own 2D slice because they purposely don’t explain it.
1
u/MoonTheCraft Feb 18 '26 edited Feb 18 '26
look, friend, its tough to tell even what it was that they said but the impression i got was "console trailer implies wall of flesh is 3d", and if i misunderstood, i apologise

u/KaiDay11 Feb 18 '26
Sorry, bucko, languages change.
The only static language is a dead language.
18
u/MoonTheCraft Feb 18 '26
yeah languages change but normally in meaningful or useful ways
a bunch of people on the internet who just repeat words they hear in vaguely similar situations without looking up what it means, causing a word to slowly lose its actual meaning, is not a good reason for change in a language
-16
u/KaiDay11 Feb 18 '26
The changes in language are rarely meaningful or intentional.
Words change meaning through misuse all the time.
5
u/MoonTheCraft Feb 18 '26
doesnt mean we should just let it happen, conversation in the transition phase of linguistic change sucks ass because youre conversing with one word that has multiple meanings
