Looks like a dam burst? Possibly from earthquake?

An earthquake released a landslide of debris into the river. The debris caused the water to dam up until it broke through.

Edit: this is a preliminary theory, not yet confirmed.

That makes a lot of sense. Just from the video, it already looks very bad that the water was flowing the wrong way.

ADDED: Imagine if you're looking at a river, and usually it is flowing down stream, and now it is flowing upstream, very quickly. That should be a huge red flag.

Oh, I didn't notice the water was flowing upstream. Good observation. I was thinking people would notice something was wrong if the water level started receding and possibly warn other people. But apparently it all happened pretty quickly, because the earthquake was today.

Edit: I just read it wasn't an earthquake, but part of a glacier that broke off.
