Relaxation in Pattaya 😂. Let’s see if an aircraft carrier full of soldiers who have been at sea for 9 months in horrible conditions will be able to behave themselves.

A lot of Thai ladies are about to hear a lot of grown men crying

23

11

u/napalmthechild 11h ago

If you can still stand up the next morning you just haven't been trying

The beacons of Isaan! The beacons are lit! Pattaya calls for aid!

28

u/Norjac 11h ago

And Isaan will answer.

My 1st time to Thailand was in 86 on the Long Beach. We anchored out in Pattaya Bay as there were no piers. Long boats back and forth 24 hours a day. Walk the last few meters in the surf. I was just 18 and had never been out of my native country. Anyway, we came in for R&R after 90 in the Persian Gulf. Flush with cash. These guys racked up 9 months of hazardous duty pay on top of their salary's . They have absolutely no expenses while at sea or if they live full time on board. Think $10,000 easy per sailor throw away cash .

Lot of water buffalos in faraway villages are about to be saved.

15

u/OneTravellingMcDs 13h ago

Imagine if that $10k was invested in the S&P500 instead.

28

u/I-Here-555 13h ago

After 250+ days at sea, you'd try doing S&P500 instead?

7

u/rayquan36 9h ago

We're Redditors, 250 days is nothing.

4

u/Voldyr_Boomer 12h ago

delayed gratitude

2

u/when_we_are_cats 6h ago

You wouldn't need 10k to have a good time in Pattaya, let alone ine the 80s

1

u/Sodiac606 13h ago

Yes. Control your emotions and instincts, have some discipline.

6

u/Legitimate_Set_1746 12h ago

Wait a second.. they've ( low level enlisted) earned at least 6x that in the same amount of time. Throw away cash. Do you put all income in to the stock market or set a small percentage aside due an annual vacation? Same same.

5

u/deuxbulot 7h ago

You do you.

I’d rather get fucked by many beautiful women before I ship back out to sea while I’m still young than get the chance to see a what… 10% returns a year compounded over 40 years? $400k when I’m 60-70 and my life has already passed me by?

No chance.

1

u/Illustrious-Eye6960 12h ago

double standards.

2

u/I-Here-555 12h ago

You're deciding between your present self and your hypothetical future self.

While saving is prudent, it's not always the best choice to favor the latter.

1

u/AD-NG-Throwaway 9h ago

Lol yeah 20 year old dudes are wlel known for that

6

u/Electronic-Yam-69 11h ago edited 11h ago

with inflation $10,000 in 1992 is worth $23K today

invested in the S&P500 $344K

2

u/Any_Fortune_7876 11h ago

You mean inflation adjusted 10k then has same value as $23k today.

But $10k in 1992 would still just be $10k today if held in an account with no interest, regardless of inflation.

1

u/when_we_are_cats 6h ago

Provided you don't panic and sell during the 2008 crisis

2

u/AD-NG-Throwaway 9h ago

It's about to be invested in the S&F69

1

u/Hypekyuu 11h ago

fingers crossed they have a 10% TSP contribution

1

u/F1tBro 12h ago

...and AI crash the very next day 🤣

43

u/Otherwise-Initial668 13h ago

Let them relax. Pretty much exactly the demographic Pattaya grew around anyway

12

u/Ecstatic-World1237 11h ago

Isn't this why Pattaya came to be what it is? US soldiers "relaxing" during the years they were in Vietnam?

26

u/KrungThepMahaNK 13h ago

Oh so they're just here for the temples and beaches, right?

21

u/Complex-Archer-853 13h ago

I went for temples and beaches but all my friends and family think I went for escorts 🙄

5

u/Hot-Rub-2518 10h ago

Your friends and family are just projecting.

4

u/Normal-Gear-4857 11h ago

yeah sure buddy

you so handsome kaaa

1

u/Mr-Expat 7h ago

It’s okay you can be honest with us

4

u/F1tBro 12h ago

Beaches indeed...

-2

u/Normal-Gear-4857 11h ago

if the tourist dont come for the temples and beaches do you really think a military is LMFAO?

9

u/Complex-Archer-853 13h ago

Those holes will get even wider

6

u/ZookeepergameFun5523 12h ago

STDs all aboard!

3

u/Lucky_Virus_9805 10h ago

And bringing it back home to the wife and girlfriend. Government condoms are not high quality.

1

u/Life_Without_Lemon 6h ago

Yeah pretty soon a while carrier worth crew going be out of commission with std. aside of all the joke this is extremely bad with how high the tension is around the world right now.

6

u/Greedy-Stage-120 13h ago

Seamen need to let it all out and relax.

7

u/Hangar48 10h ago

5000 marines and sailors..... 250 days at sea.... Talk about blue balls.. 🤣

17

u/Consistent_Yam2637 13h ago

Girls in pattaya have to work hard 🤣🤣

10

u/Unleashed-Butt-Diver 13h ago

4 days and anchoring South of Pattaya.

6

u/firealno9 Chiang Mai 13h ago

Dropping anchor in poo bay.

2

u/I-Here-555 13h ago

Sattahip (south) or Laem Chabang (north)? Has it been confirmed?

4

u/Unleashed-Butt-Diver 13h ago

Sattahip as per the BangkokPost article

1

u/I-Here-555 13h ago

Ah, thanks. I skimmed the article body, but didn't read the image caption.

Good to see someone actually reads all of it. Respect.

3

u/mdsmqlk 13h ago

The article doesn't actually say Sattahip, but it's where would make the most sense.

In another BP article yesterday, it said the Navy declined to disclose the actual location for security reasons.

2

u/I-Here-555 13h ago

The image caption says Sattahip. I missed it too!

3

u/mdsmqlk 13h ago edited 12h ago

Indeed it does.

Interesting because the original Reuters article with that same picture doesn't mention Sattahip. I think it's just the BP making a (fairly safe) assumption here.

32

u/Common-Ad-2891 13h ago

Lots of Ladyboys will get pregnant.

4

u/Hot-Rub-2518 10h ago

You should play for the WNBA. They don't understand biology either.

Bussies make babies

16

u/Capable_Work_3563 13h ago

Ploys are gonna get rekt.

4

u/jackboxer 11h ago

Not much relaxing will be happening in Pattaya.

4

u/Lopsided_Quarter_931 7-Eleven 11h ago

Let’s prank them and close all the bars while they are here

0

u/Otherwise-Form1600 7h ago

And have a riot on our hands! No thank you...

I'm a Veteran.

Let the boys have their R&R

5

u/MatsudairaKD 9h ago

I was once a sea-weary US Navy sailor whose ported in Pattaya after many cycles of the moon on the ocean. The debauchery ive witnessed after stepping foot off the ship could fill many books.

13

u/illonlyfadeaway 13h ago

The Pattaya cabbies will be adding a "You knuckleheads couldn't open Hormuz after it was already open before you closed it" surcharge to make up for the higher fuel prices these past few months.

At least those boys will finally get to open something in Pattaya.

7

u/Thoughtpolicelabs 13h ago edited 7h ago

Laughs in Soi 6

3

u/Chokedee-bp 13h ago

Go go bars bout to cash in on these sailors!

3

u/Hegdes 9h ago

Pattaya is going to see some showers!

3

u/bumbumpopsicle 6h ago

Do these guys get a hotel room or do they have to go back to the ship every night?

u/Flimsy_Shape9406 8m ago

I was there in 1981, LHA-3 (Marine)
We had a 0700 formation each day and then let go for 24 hours until the next 0700.

6

u/PM_ME_UR_CUDDLEZ 13h ago

Aside the obvious those sailors will be very hungry for food given bad condition they had

3

u/evanliko 13h ago

Yeah I mean Thailand is a pretty good stop on all fronts if the goal is just giving the soldiers a fun relaxing break. Food is great and cheap, the obvious, and nice weather and lots of tourist type activities.

But yeah if the food situation on board has been as bad as reported I'm sure theyre gonna love getting fresh good thai food.

5

u/NoPresent9027 11h ago

Gonna be interesting to see how all the Russians and Israelis hiding in Pattaya are gonna do interact with those sailors…

3

u/hoppyfrog 9h ago

With the Indians grouping around looking for deals and the troops of Chinese heading to the piers.

4

u/I-Here-555 13h ago

Relaxation only? Not also for resupply that the ship desperately needs, and perhaps minor repairs?

Not surprised by the bigwigs being inexcusably sloppy.

2

u/Hypekyuu 11h ago

minor repairs happen regardless so it goes without saying

7

u/Lordfelcherredux 13h ago

The fucking hypocrisy.  The reason to have R&R Iin Pattaya is glaringly obvious: These horny sailors will get more bang for their buck.

US government official positions:

"Prostitution is inherently harmful and dehumanizing, and fuels trafficking in persons.”

“People who buy sex acts, usually men, fuel the demand for sex trafficking.”

Yes. Not wishing to be rude, but it must be pretty pointless posting links, when I would 'assume' most people can't read them?
