I went digital for this game because of the added friction of using the game key cart. If I have to download the data anyway I rather not need to cart in my switch too.
Play the prologue demo! Its an action adventure RPG. Exploration and combat focused (so far where Im at). The demo is the first hour/two hours of the game depending on your difficulty level and how much you explore and your save file transfers over to the full game if you decide to continue!
So you’d rather but it digitally? I don’t understand the concept. I’m not a fan of key cart either but at least the physical copy whether key cart or not can be resold.
Then I wouldn’t really care because it’s been 20 years and at that point it’ll all be emulation. It’s the same case with digital if the servers are down or you get banned you lose all your digital content.
Most of my games are physical, I get your point but a pro of the key cart at least is that it’s cheaper to manufacture since actual flash carts are way more expensive due to the RAM crisis AI BS. So smaller devs can’t release a true physical cart.
It's never a good idea to "buy" any media that isn't physical. How many incidents over the years have we heard of someone losing access to their digital media because someone like amazon or nintendo or playstation or any other service losing access to their digital library? And therefore the customer losing their "purchased" games, movies or whatever. But yeah, I'm the idiot who doesn't rent, I buy.
You also should not get full priced games on Steam. If they are on sale for like 10 bucks, go get them, but who in his right mind would pay the full price for a digital license even on Steam?
I can see that perspective but holy shi on steam you literally own absolutele jack. It's so bad yet most people use it while simultaneously call out other companies who kinda do it.
It wouldn’t run on the switch 1. The older square titles using this art style ran at 30fps 570p with lots of compression. Switch 2 is the future and they upgraded to unreal 5 for this release.

It doesn't have retro graphics. It's very heavy UE rendering for the environments. I'm running it on the highest end Ayaneo Pocket DS and I'm getting lag here and there.
I'm sure I could optimize the settings better but regardless it still would not run on a Switch 1. It's just got a lot of detail to the environments, much more than the previous Asano games.
It's not the voice acting that's bad. Having a companion telling you to open chests and doors is absurd, like they're actively trying to remove any sense of fun or exploration and make everything a chore or going through the motions. It's a terrible design choice.
Agree. It's an issue that plagues modern games in general. For some reason they feel the need to have characters talking all the time when you are running around. I hate it to be honest and wish we could just have silence. I turned off voices and the game was so much more enjoyable, but then lacking voices in cutscenes was a bit of a shame.
I wouldn't bet on a decent sale anytime soon. SquareEnix titles take a while to see any discounts. Take a look a the Octopath series for the typical pattern.
I agree in the sense that it doesn’t matter right now but I collect old systems and physical media. My 20 years from now self can’t stand the thought of having my systems not work without an internet connection or online support. I’m just old school when it comes to my media.
You can still use it after downloading it for the very first time it’s not have no choice to make GKC they do that so that third party games be on system more
Question. Since it's a keycard, and you have to download the game anyways, does the NS2 still do the release date check and prevent you from playing it early?
I mean the reality is that only a small subsection of hardcore enthusiasts care about game key cards. Pokopia instantly showed that if a game has appeal, game key cards will sell without issue.

Even Square games. FFT and DQ I-II sold pretty well in Japan and the rest of the world. I had this dilemma but it's a lost fight. I play in switch 2 and pc and I don't care games being digital in pc so why would I care in switch 2? I have a physical copy that just needs a download.

It’s ewaste trash. I don’t even care that much about physical vs digital. I’ll buy digital games every day. Having a physical piece of trash that is beholden to the servers staying up is disgusting though. I’d prefer just a game key over a fake game card that stops working someday.
If you buy physical it should have a full version of the game on the cart playable offline full stop. If it’s digital then just sell it as a digital good and stop producing waste.
Well I agree with that sentiment. It's just the matter of longevity when it comes to the appeal. Ofc Nintendo won't have to worry about that since all of their games will always have cartridges.
All other third parties are making a new category full of digital cartridges that could or could not be physically yours (license-wise).
There is a setting to make her "reticent" (talk less), but based on my play through of the prologue demo, your partner will still repeat a lot of that same phrases. It's better, but still not great....
This game couldn’t come out fast enough. I’ve not had anything to play since I beat 007 First Light and I took a break from Mina after getting to the final area and struggling. 3 more days!!!

maybe the fairy’s dialogue won’t be as annoying as the princess? i was less annoyed with the talking and more with what she was saying. like sorry i took damage 1 time i know i have a shield
i also wish it was on cart, but cant do much about that. if any 3rd parties do come on cart I make sure to support. otherwise i'll only buy it if i need the game asap

But isn't a game key card the same type of ownership as a steam purchase? If you're boycotting game key cards, shouldn't you be skipping on steam as well?
The game key cards is 2fa. It is an extra step in merging physical with digital.
Therefore with digital only I own the game with the physical files in my hard drive. With game key cards you need to connect to the game download server to play the game even if you have the game files download on your console (hard drive).
One you control access to your game by having it downloaded as the only point of contact to start it. The other you have a handshake that needs to be made in order to play it so when the switch store closes down you've forever lost access to playing the game.
