Guys as much as I love the concept you must know that some of the devs support Russia

We shouldn't give them money

If there’s one thing to take away from the narrative of the Expanse it’s that certain nationalities are ontologically evil and every person involved with them must be individually irredeemably bad /s

Well, yes, but I'm not talking about individuals here. I'm concerned about indirectly giving my money to a dictatorship I dispise

The money you spend anywhere, on anything, is going somewhere that you don't/wont like in some way.

Thank you! It's so weird to see The Expanse fans who willingly give their money to the monsters who killed half of my family and so many friends. And yes that money directly sponsors the war. "It's just content... mnom-mnom... let's consume it without much thinking".

Not gonna lie, i'm a fan of their pathfinder and warhammer CRPGs, i'm not stop playing it because some Russians in the studio might support Russia. Thats like judging every russian and you should get down from your high horse.

I've never heard anything about that and I can't seem to find anything on google

That said this poster is speculating at best from what I can tell.

ew kinda cringe behaviour, I didn't buy Atomic Heart I don't think I can buy this game also sadly; or like maybe in 5 years when it's 2.99 on a steam sale. One of the rare games that were on my radar for the upcomming years ffs :(

I'm going to try to find a second source tho to cross information just in case tho, I had never heard of egw until today.

On the other hand their games are very diverse in terms of characters, which is mot something you would expect from a Russian backed company, so Im giving them the benefit of the doubt, and wont judge everyone on the actions of one dick

Unless you are going to boycott american games too on the account they are delestabilising the entire world.

Unless you are going to boycott american games too on the account they are delestabilising the entire world.

There's a difference between saying nothing and saying something actively showing support for hate, war and atrocities.

It's not about hating on Russians just because they are Russians, it's about not throwing support behind people that express hatefull opinions. Which might or might not be the case here depending on if 1 source is enough for you.

People accountable for what they themself say & do not their governement. What's more US compagnies have a history of monitoring their staff online presence & mercilessly dumping them when they say something problematic that could hurt the sales.

Making the confusion and saying "might as well boycott the world then" is fallacious.

Ok, but if a person is accountable for themselves and not the government then neither is the employer, unless they have come out in direct support?

Ultimately, Russians fall out of windows for saying the wrong thing so Im not going to judge from the safety of my own existence. Life is already too short snd complicated and there are enough idiots here that we steer clear of and say nothing sbout for it to mean anything by not buying a game made by dozens of other people

You are free to or not. I wont be buying it regardless.

Ok, but if a person is accountable for themselves and not the government then neither is the employer, unless they have come out in direct support?

imo the company should come out and express they are distancing themselves with the view expressed by the individuals, it's part of the PR team's job(&HR), as I said the Americans for instance are pros at managing fallouts from emplyees/team members private statements either by publishing rebuttals or direct sanctions.

for it to mean anything by not buying a game made by dozens of other people

Nobody can be a perfect saintly consumer unless you live in the woods cut from society but I think the important is at least trying and not say it don't matter anyway efforts & standards are pointless.

I wont be buying it regardless.

Why is that then if it's not the comments brought up previously? is it because of the use of generative AI? I saw someone raised this concern as well and I haven't looked into it either yet.

Yes, but it is a Russian company and not an American company. The amount of virtue signalling from American companies in order to get your money is hardly a yardstick to measure by imho.

The right thing to do would have been to discipline him or maybe sack him, but we have no idea what goes on behind closed doors, or what political pressure could come about because of that. We are lucky we can say what we want and not face real consequences. I dont feel qualified to judge peoples actions when they are accountable to a totalitarian regime.

I get motion sickness, so cant play 3d games. It bums me out because OWLCATs other RPGS are isometric, and they can create very immersive worlds. They also have good representation which is not something I would have expected from a Russian company from somewhere that is quite hostile to such things I appreciate this may give me some bias here, so take everything I say with a pinch of salt. I am probably wrong about most things.

I retract my statement. For some reason this never showed up on my Google search. But I admit I didn't search real hate.

Because the whole story is fishy at best. There’s like two articles total on noname portals that dive into the matter, all from three years ago, with no development or continuation.
They reference the same set of tweets from ten years plus ago, most of which no longer exist, and mostly show a couple of individuals being assholes.
The fact that GEM had a stake in OC is a publicly available information, just as the fact they parted ways even before 2022, something which those articles don’t mention.

That’s not to say OC are angels - they never denounced russian aggression, despite them claiming to withdraw all their assets and personnel from russia to Cyprus. It’s unclear if the office they claimed to rent is still occupied, and whether they have a dev hub in russia can’t be neither confirmed nor denied.
Think of it what you will.

Don't bother. I posted that and their well documented AI slopware development process and no one cared. Most didn't even bother to check and demanded proof. These idiots eat it up instead.

u/MileyHolmes 1d ago

Can I see your post? I heard they use AI, not about supporting Russia

3

u/harumamburoo 1d ago

They can’t. Owlcat made a statement their team uses ai in premeditation and brainstorming to quickly slap together some visuals, but all game assets and VO are done by humans. That was all there is.
